Maybe I shouldn't die.

Chapter 3 The Taoist Fortune Teller

Fang Yue's attention was suddenly attracted by a stall in front of her.

It was a unique stall, owned by a middle-aged Taoist priest wearing tattered Taoist robes.

In front of him was a piece of crude rag, with a wooden stick standing on the edge and a piece of equally tattered canvas hanging on the stick, on which were written the four words "divine strategy" in ancient handwriting.

Although the stall looked so shabby, Fang Yue felt that it exuded an indescribable charm that attracted her attention.

She had an inexplicable intuition that if she didn't step forward to find out what was going on, she would probably regret it for the rest of her life.

Fang Yue was silent. She didn't believe these things at first. It turned out that people in that world all worshipped science.

However, the experience of her own reincarnation with her memories and the unactivated system in her mind have overturned her previous concepts.

It made her believe that the ancient metaphysical wisdom really existed in this world.

Fang Yue gently pulled Fang Li and whispered.

"Brother, look, there is a fortune-telling stall over there."

When Fang Li heard Fang Yue's voice, he lowered his head and looked in the direction Fang Yue pointed.

It was a shabby stall with a fortune teller in tattered clothes sitting behind the stall. There was a tattered sign and no one in front of the stall.

Fang Li was silent. He had been to the county town with his father before, but had never seen this fortune-telling stall. What's more, there was no one in front of the stall. It didn't look reliable at all.

However, since his sister was interested, Fang Li thought that it would be okay to find out the truth even if it was just to make her happy.

So, Fang Li brought Fang Yue to the stall. When the stall owner heard the footsteps, he raised his head and revealed a thin face.

The stall owner looked Fang Li and Fang Yue up and down before asking.

"Does the young master want to have his fortune told, or does the young lady want to have her fortune told?"

"Let's calculate it all." Fang Li replied.

The Taoist nodded slightly, began to pinch his fingers, and looked at Fang Li carefully. Then, he was silent for a moment, pinched his fingers again, looked at Fang Yue carefully, and then fell into deep thought.

Fang Li and Fang Yue looked at the Taoist's focused expression and felt respect for him. It seemed that the Taoist really had some skills, so they waited patiently.

Finally, the Taoist priest spoke and said

"You two will travel far, to the north"

Fang Li and Fang Yue looked at each other in surprise after hearing this, because they were indeed planning to go to the capital, and the direction of the capital was north.

"Yes," the Taoist paused for a moment and then said, "This trip may not be as you wish. Young master, your future lies in the north, but the young lady's life lies not there."

When Fang Li heard this, his eyes narrowed suddenly. This Taoist priest was able to make such an assertion after only looking at his brother and sister a few times. He must have some real skills and he had to believe it.

The reason for this trip to the capital was, firstly, to find a famous doctor for his younger sister, and secondly, he needed to find a famous teacher there to continue his studies.

If what the Taoist said was true, it meant that finding a teacher was feasible, but my sister's search for a doctor would not be smooth.

If this is true, then even if he finds a famous teacher in the capital and achieves success in the future, if he cannot find a good doctor for his sister, then what is the point of this journey?

"Then, may I ask, Taoist priest, if we don't seek a future, where should our vitality go?"

After Fang Li pondered for a moment, he bowed respectfully to the Taoist priest and asked.

The middle-aged Taoist priest glanced at him, counted with his fingers, and pondered for a moment before answering.

“Heaven and earth are unkind and treat all things as straw dogs. However, human beings are born between heaven and earth. If we strive to improve ourselves, we may have a glimmer of hope for survival.”

After hearing the Taoist's words, Fang Li's eyes were filled with hope. He cupped his hands again and asked earnestly.

"Please give me some pointers, Taoist priest."

The middle-aged Taoist pointed to the southwest and said:

"Go from here. If you are not afraid of difficulties, there is Yishui City. Although fate cannot be easily changed, there is a glimmer of hope there. Whether you can grasp it depends on you."

After that, the Taoist waved his hand, indicating that they could leave. No matter how much Fang Li asked, the Taoist just closed his eyes and refused to say another word.

Fang Li had no choice but to take out a few silver ingots from his pocket, put them in front of the Taoist's stall, and then took Fang Yue away.

After walking about ten meters, Fang Yue suddenly looked back and was surprised to find that the place where the fortune-telling booth was originally was empty.

The person who was standing there just now had disappeared without a trace. She hurriedly grabbed Fang Li and motioned him to look back.

Seeing his sister pulling at his sleeve, Fang Li lowered his head and asked

"Yuer, what's wrong?"

"Brother, the stall is gone," Fang Yue said with some trembling.

"The Taoist fortune teller just now...he's gone."

Fang Li heard this and turned around suddenly, only to see that the place where he had been fortune-teller before was now empty. Looking around, there were many pedestrians on the road, but there was no middle-aged Taoist priest in shabby clothes.

Fang Li felt an indescribable uneasiness in his heart. He took Fang Yue to a stall selling wooden hairpins, handed over a few coins, and then asked.

"I want to ask you something. As long as you answer truthfully, the silver will be yours."

The vendor nodded repeatedly, indicating his willingness to help.

Fang Li pointed to the place where the Taoist priest had set up his stall before and asked:

"Is there a middle-aged Taoist priest wearing a tattered Taoist robe setting up a stall to tell fortunes just now?"

The vendor scratched his head, looked in the direction Fang Li pointed, thought carefully, shook his head and said:

"A fortune-telling stall. There's no fortune-telling stall around here. At least I haven't seen one here."

Fang Li frowned, looking somewhat unwilling, and asked again:

"Have there been any fortune-telling stalls around here recently?"

"No," the vendor shook his head firmly and replied.

"If people want to have their fortune told, they usually go to the Taoist temple outside the city. Young Master, do you want to have your fortune told? The Taoist temple in the west of the city is very effective, and many people go there."

"No, thank you." Fang Li waved his hand to indicate that he didn't need it. After handing the silver to the vendor, he took Fang Yue away.

The vendor took the silver and a look of joy appeared on his face. This amount of silver was a considerable income for him, which could cover the revenue from several days of setting up the stall.

He secretly thanked his luck for the day, and at the same time, an idea came to his mind that perhaps he should go to the Taoist temple outside the city to pray and pray that such good luck would continue.

Fang Li and Fang Yue were no longer in the mood to go shopping. They walked silently towards the inn, their hearts full of doubts.
