Devil's Army

Chapter 902: Japanese Counterattack in the North

Itagaki Seishirō, the commander-in-chief who was in charge of the campaign to wipe out the Tangshan Devil Forces, was awakened from his sleep by a phone call.

His signalman said that the devil troops were attacking his troops from three directions, and his first reaction was that reinforcements from the devil troops had arrived.

At this point in the battle, his troops had suffered 6% casualties. The casualties of the Devil's troops were definitely not small, and it was impossible for them to suddenly organize such a large counterattack. However, he didn't know where the reinforcements of the Devil's troops would come from.

Itagaki Seishirō didn't know that there were actually no reinforcements, only more than 3000 new recruits with low combat effectiveness joining the battle.

He ordered Captain Yuichiro Nagano of the 11th Regiment and Captain Toshiro Nami of the 41st Regiment to retake the lost positions after daybreak.

At daybreak, Lieutenant Commander Nagano Yu, who was stationed north of Xiaoguanzhuang Airport, led the Japanese troops of the 11th Regiment to attack the first fortification. Dense artillery shells were thrown at the first fortification of the regiment in waves.

The commander of a regiment knew that the Japanese attack would definitely be paved with artillery fire, so he only left some observation posts in the position.

The Japanese bombarded for about 20 minutes and then stopped. The regiment commander knew that the Japanese infantry was about to charge and quickly ordered the soldiers to take up their positions.

Who knew that the cunning Regiment Commander Nagano Yu did not order the infantry to charge, but instead ordered the artillery to launch another artillery attack.

Where had the recruits seen such a scene? They had never experienced such a scene in the training ground.

Some recruits squatted in the trenches, holding their heads and shivering.

Some of the recruits still remembered the key points their instructors had taught them during training; they opened their mouths, covered their ears, and stayed quietly in the trenches.

Several recruits had red faces and their crotches were wet with fear, but the veterans did not laugh at them, because everyone would go through the process of going from a recruit to a veteran.

The veteran who led these new recruits patted them on the shoulders and said:

"It's okay, just hide well and save your life. You will become veterans after fighting a few battles."

Two recruits stood there at a loss, looking at the direction where the Japanese artillery shells were coming from.

At this moment, the whistling sound of a mortar shell flew towards this direction.

The veteran soldier who was leading one of the new recruits saw this and tackled the two men to the ground.

A mortar shell exploded not far from the three of them, and shrapnel hit the veteran's right leg.

The old soldier bared his yellow teeth from years of smoking and cursed:

"New recruits, you are not afraid of death, but I don't want to be scolded, so stay here."

Regiment Captain Nagano Yu waited until the Japanese second artillery bombardment stopped before ordering the infantry to attack.

The Japanese army's second artillery attack caused heavy casualties among the soldiers of the regiment.

The second company commander in the trench was furious with this group of Japanese soldiers. He ordered his soldiers to wait until the Japanese soldiers got closer before fighting, and he wanted to teach this group of Japanese soldiers a lesson.

When the Japanese army cautiously approached to within 200 meters of the fortifications, they began to speed up and rushed towards the fortifications.

The second company commander did not order to open fire, but stared at the Japanese troops with flaming eyes.

The soldier next to the second company commander kept staring at the company commander, afraid of missing his order.

When the Japanese army rushed to more than 40 meters away from the position, the second company commander shouted: "Throw it!"

Suddenly, grenades fell at the feet of the Japanese soldiers like raindrops.

After throwing the grenades, the veterans immediately raised their guns and started shooting at the Japanese.

The Japanese army was attacked by a rain of grenades and then by a rain of bullets. They suffered heavy casualties and had to retreat.

Seeing the Japanese retreat, the second company commander immediately left the observation soldiers behind and the other soldiers retreated to the back. He knew that the Japanese were about to start shelling again.

Sure enough, just as the soldiers of the Second Company retreated to the rear of the position, the Japanese artillery fire attacked again. The fortifications of the Second Company were once again ravaged by the Japanese artillery fire.

Regiment Captain Nagano Yu ordered the infantry to launch a second wave of attack before their artillery fire stopped.

When the second company commander saw the signal sent by the soldiers at the observation post, he quickly led his soldiers into the position.

In this wave of attack, the Japanese infantry did not rush forward rashly as they did last time. Instead, they lay down about 200 meters in front of the fortifications and exchanged fire with the soldiers of the Devil Forces in the fortifications.

The Japanese machine gunners lay behind the infantry and kept firing at the machine gun positions in the Second Company's fortifications, suppressing the Second Company's firepower.

A bespectacled recruit closed his eyes, stretched his gun out of the trench and started fighting.

The bearded veteran next to him kicked the new recruit to the ground and cursed:

"Fuck you, did your instructor teach you to shoot like this? If you haven't learned it yet, go back and learn again!"

The recruit wearing glasses blushed and jumped up. The instructor taught him to shoot in a straight line, but he was so scared that he closed his eyes and shot randomly.

He stood in the trench, raised his gun and was about to shoot, but the veteran slapped him on the head again, pushed the new recruit under the trench and cursed:

"Lie down, kid. Do you want to lie here?"

At this time, the Japanese army's bullets flew "whoosh, whoosh..." over the heads of the new recruits and old soldiers.

The bespectacled recruit was so frightened that he broke out in a cold sweat and could not help but stare at the bearded veteran next to him with gratitude. If it weren't for him, he would probably have died here today.
