Devil's Army

Chapter 852 Raid 3 Fork Checkpoint

The commander of the third regiment received an order from Brigade Commander Li and immediately set off for Baodi.

Baodi is less than a hundred miles away from Jixian County. Not far after leaving Jixian County, you will reach a small road with dense trees on both sides.

In the past, Japanese patrols patrolled this path from time to time. After the First Army recaptured Ji County, they ambushed Japanese patrols here several times.

The Japanese also ambushed soldiers from the First Army, but to no avail.

Gradually, the Japanese army gave up on this section of the road and stopped sending troops to patrol. The First Army also did not send troops to patrol. This became a buffer zone between the First Army and the Japanese army.

The third regiment commander arrived at this path and arranged a platoon of soldiers to grope ahead. He had ambushed Japanese patrols here several times, and he was also afraid of being ambushed by Japanese patrols.

The reconnaissance platoon passed through this path smoothly, and the third regiment commander led the large force from behind and quickly passed through this path.

After walking along the path for more than half an hour, two bunkers appeared in front of us, and a Japanese checkpoint blocked the path.

"Where is this place?" the third regiment commander asked a new recruit who had just joined the army not long ago. He lived near Ji County.

"Captain, this is Sanchakou Village."

Sanchakou Village was first built during the Song and Liao dynasties. It is the confluence of the Beihe River, Yunliang River and Zhouhe River, so it was named Sanchakou Village. It was also a fortress leading to Baodi that the commander-in-chief required them to occupy.

The third regiment commander observed that there were only a few Japanese soldiers at the checkpoint, and the two bunkers behind it blocked the path leading to Baodi from a high position. It was unclear how many Japanese soldiers were in the two bunkers.

For the guerrillas without offensive weapons, the bunkers were natural barriers. But the third regiment commander really didn't take him seriously. He called the first battalion commander to his side and asked:

"You arrange a platoon to resolve the battle in half an hour. Is there any problem?"

"What's the problem with these few carrot heads?"

"There are only a few Japanese soldiers at the checkpoint, do you know how many Japanese soldiers are inside the bunker?"

"No matter how many Japanese soldiers are in the bunker, a few Type 40 rockets will make them all fly in homemade planes."

"Okay, let's move. I'll take a break." After the captain said this, he closed his eyes, put on his clothes and prepared to lie down under a tree to rest.

"Wait a minute!" The third regiment commander suddenly called out to the first battalion commander.

"Captain, do you have any other instructions?"

"The commander-in-chief asked us to guard the Sanchakou and Bailonggang Bridge. If we blow up the bunker, won't we lose two strongholds?"

"The commander meant to capture the bunker, not to blow it up?"

“Yes, is it difficult?”

"Yes, the Japanese at the checkpoint are easy to deal with. We can just get close to them and fire a burst of bullets. But once the guns are fired, the Japanese machine guns in the bunkers will start to fire, and our people will be shot into sieves. If we don't have these two bunkers, a few 40 rockets will solve the problem."

"This is indeed a problem. If it doesn't work, just fire him."

"Captain, it's already evening. Let's take action at night and see if we can surprise it?"

"Okay, keep it secret."

At ten o'clock in the evening, when people were beginning to feel sleepy, a group of people approached the checkpoint quietly.

There were two Japanese soldiers standing at the checkpoint, patrolling in boredom, while the other three were already sitting beside the checkpoint, dozing off with their feet in their arms.

The platoon leader in charge of the vanguard arranged two people to hide behind the bushes, and several people quietly approached the checkpoint from both sides of the path.

The platoon leader threw a stone forward, and the sound of the stone rolling in the grass was not clearly heard by the sentry amid the whistling of the north wind.

"@$?" A Japanese sentry shouted something nonsense towards the rolling stone. But the bushes did not respond.

The sentry, holding his gun, walked cautiously into the bushes. The sentry behind him also held his gun and stood guard carefully.

The sentry walked into the grass and poked the dry grass with the bayonet on his gun.

"&@$." The sentry turned around and shouted to the sentry at the checkpoint.

The three Japanese soldiers who were dozing on the ground closed their eyes again after hearing the sentry's words. The sentry who was on guard with a gun also put it down.

The Japanese sentry at the edge of the grass took a few steps forward and searched.

Suddenly, several dark shadows rushed out from the side of the checkpoint and pounced on the four Japanese soldiers at the checkpoint.

The Japanese soldier beside the bush heard the noise, turned around and looked, and suddenly two black shadows rushed over from the bush.

As the cold dagger flashed, the Japanese sentry beside the grass kicked his feet a few times and then fell silent.

The soldiers quickly put on the Japanese military uniforms on the ground and dragged the Japanese bodies into the bushes nearby.

Before the soldiers could walk towards the Japanese bunker, five yawning Japanese soldiers walked out of the bunker on the left.

"Pretending to sleep, they must be the Japanese who are changing shifts." The platoon leader whispered to the four soldiers in Japanese uniforms. The other soldiers were hiding in the bushes on both sides of the checkpoint.

The platoon leader knew that none of them could speak Japanese, and that they would be exposed if the Japanese soldiers who were about to take over talked to them, so he simply asked the soldiers to pretend to sleep.

After a while, the Japanese soldiers who were changing guards came to the checkpoint and muttered something. But the four soldiers of the First Army who were pretending to be asleep made even breathing sounds and did not respond.
