Devil's Army
Chapter 762: Repelling the 20th Division's Attack
When Commander Pei was fighting hard against the Japanese 20th Division, a sentry came to report: an unidentified force appeared in the rear.
Pei was shocked. If the Japanese had cut off his retreat, he would have to retreat to Zhuozhou and join the main force of the 26th Army. He ordered the sentries to continue to find out whether this unit was a friend or an enemy.
After a while, a regiment commander and a sentry came to the headquarters of Division Commander Pei. The sentry told Division Commander Pei that this unit was our reinforcement.
Commander Pei felt a little strange. At present, their 26th Army was fighting the Japanese in Caohe, Jumahe, Liulihe, Fangshan, Heilongguan and Zhangfang Town. Where would the reinforcements come from?
Commander Pei quickly walked out of the command room to meet with the commander of the first regiment.
The head of the regiment introduced himself to Master Pei:
"Hello, Commander Pei! We are from the Fifth Brigade of the First Northeast Anti-Japanese Army. We defeated the 80th Regiment of the Fourteenth Division of the Japanese in Gu'an County and have just arrived in Fangshan."
"So you are the anti-Japanese force from Northeast China. Welcome. With your joining us, we are more confident in stopping the Japanese invasion."
"Commander Pei, have you heard of our troops?"
"You are the National Revolutionary Army's First Northeast Anti-Japanese Army, and we are General Feng's former Northwest Army. Neither of us belongs to the Nanjing government's direct troops." Commander Pei said with a wry smile.
"No matter if they are from the legitimate army or not, as long as they can fight the Japanese, they are good troops."
"Correct!"
"Commander Pei, what is the current casualty situation of the troops?" asked a regimental commander.
"The Japanese sent out planes, heavy artillery, tanks and armored vehicles, and we suffered heavy casualties." Commander Pei said with a heavy heart.
The regiment commander said nothing, took the telescope from the table and walked out of the command room, and Commander Pei followed him.
The Japanese heavy artillery and tanks kept bombarding the Fangshan position, and soldiers of the 47th Division were blown away from the position from time to time.
"Commander Pei, while the Japanese planes are not here now, order some observation posts to be left at the position and all other soldiers to retreat." said a regimental commander.
We only evacuated our fortifications to avoid air raids when the Japanese planes were bombing. Why are we evacuating our fortifications now when the Japanese planes are not around? Division Commander Pei looked at the regiment commander in confusion and said:
"The Japanese tanks and armored vehicles are advancing very quickly. The firepower of the frontline positions is not fierce enough. They will soon break through the fortifications."
"You are now using the lives of your soldiers to block the Japanese attack." The regiment commander said with concern.
"With inferior weapons, the soldiers can only use their flesh and blood to resist the Japanese invaders' attack. And it is the duty of us soldiers to sacrifice our lives for the country."
"Commander Pei, please withdraw as I say. We are responsible for the Japanese's Iron Turtle. If the Fangshan position is lost, I will bring my head to you." The regiment commander said in a loud voice.
Commander Pei also wanted to see how the rumored anti-Japanese force fought the Japs, so he immediately ordered the messenger to convey the retreat order.
The regimental commander immediately ordered the accompanying artillery observer to report the artillery coordinates to the heavy artillery position. The aviation troops took action immediately after the heavy artillery stopped firing and blew up the enemy's tanks and armored vehicles.
Several artillery observers immediately stood on the high ground outside the command center and nervously reported each coordinate to the artillery battlefield.
The nine Type 150 150mm howitzers and five Krupp mm howitzers at the first regiment's artillery position were nervously adjusting their firing coordinates.
At this time, the Japanese 20th Division saw that the 47th Division began to retreat, and ordered the tanks and armored vehicles to advance at full speed.
Commander Pei, who was standing in the command room, was also worried that the Japanese tanks and armored vehicles could break through his Fangshan position with one charge.
The captain waved his hand and gave a loud order:
"fire!"
As the messenger waved the red flag, Captain Wang at the artillery position also gave the order to fire.
A series of deafening noises came from behind the Fangshan position. One after another, 150mm grenades rushed towards the Japanese artillery positions and the front of the Fangshan position.
The Japanese heavy artillery position that was bombarding the Fangshan position of the 47th Division was suddenly bombarded by a group of heavy artillery, and they immediately became confused.
The Japanese tanks, armored vehicles and infantry that were rapidly advancing towards the Fangshan formation had their limbs and arms flying everywhere under the bombardment of 150mm howitzers. The tanks and armored vehicles at the center of the explosion were directly blown apart.
But the regiment commander did not give the Japanese a chance to breathe, and the artillery continued with round after round of bombing.
The heavy artillery of the regiment had just stopped bombarding, and the small mountain artillery of the regiment began to bombard the Japanese in front of the position fiercely.
Only then did the Japanese realize what it meant to give someone a taste of their own medicine.
As soon as the small steel artillery of the regiment stopped bombing, the remaining Japanese infantry in front of the position began to retreat. The remaining tanks and armored vehicles also began to retreat.
At this time, the remaining seven Golden Eagle IIs of the regiment roared over the position and began to fire air-to-ground missiles at the fleeing Japanese tanks and armored vehicles.
The Japanese tanks and armored vehicles were destroyed on the way to escape.
The commander of the Japanese 20th Division had to order his st Battalion to retreat.
In this battle, the 47th Division did not sacrifice a single soldier's life, but achieved the greatest results. Thirty Japanese tanks and ten armored vehicles were destroyed, while twenty-two tanks and eight armored vehicles were destroyed.
As for the loss of the Japs' heavy artillery, due to limited means of investigation, there is no way to know. But since he was attacked by a group of heavy artillery, he has not launched a decent bombing.
