Devil's Army

Chapter 394 Bombing the Japanese Artillery Tower

The next morning, Wu Lang left the Second Battalion of the Second Regiment not far outside Chaoyang County, and assigned snipers from the brigade's direct company to the Second Battalion to participate in harassing the Japanese in Chaoyang City and Jinzhou.

Wu Lang divided the three battalions of the third regiment into three routes. The first battalion was responsible for the left route, mainly to clear out the Japanese and puppet troops in Dapingfang Town, Taizi Town, Mutouchengzi Town and Shengli Town.

The second battalion was responsible for the most important route in the middle, mainly clearing out the Japanese and puppet troops in Yangshan Town, Qingfengling Town, Wafang Town, and Liujiazi Town. They echoed the anti-Japanese armed forces in Qingfengling. Liujiazi Town was across from Huludao Port, and retaking Liujiazi would be extremely beneficial to their future shipping.

The third battalion was responsible for the right route, mainly clearing Nanshuangmiao Town, Qidaoling, and Ershijiazi Town.

Gray Wolf ordered the three squad leaders of the special operations team to lead a squad each to follow the three battalions of the 3rd Regiment of the 2nd Brigade. He led the main force of the special operations team and the company directly under the 2nd Brigade and the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Regiment that protected the 2nd Brigade to Nanshuangmiao Town.

The Japanese garrison in Nanshuangmiao Town consisted of only a squad of more than 40 people and more than 100 puppet soldiers. They held out for less than an hour on the Nanshuangmiao town wall, leaving behind dozens of Japanese and puppet soldiers' bodies and fleeing in panic.

The First Army successfully recaptured Nanshuangmiao Town and used it as the temporary headquarters for the Special Operations Team and the Second Brigade.

The Japanese had a small number of troops in each town. The largest was a squadron with less than 200 people, and the smallest was a squad of 40 to 50 people. The three battalions of the Third Regiment and the three squads of the special forces cooperated with each other and made smooth progress. The towns were recaptured one after another.

The Second Battalion of the Central Route encountered some difficulties in recaptureing Qingfengling Town after recaptured Yangshan Town.

The two teams of nearly one hundred Japanese devils and more than one hundred puppet troops from Yangshan Town put up a brief resistance before retreating to Qingfengling Town.

There was a squadron of Japanese soldiers and more than 200 puppet soldiers in Qingfengling Town. Although they were outnumbered compared to the Second Battalion, they wanted to block the connection between the Qingfengling Anti-Japanese Armed Forces and the outside world, so they built two solid artillery towers at the intersection to echo the Japanese soldiers in Qingfengling Town and block the road into Qingfengling Town.

The Second Battalion launched several powerful attacks, but they were all blocked by the dense firepower from the artillery tower, and several soldiers were sacrificed.

The second battalion commander used mortars to bombard the enemy's artillery tower, but four shells hit it in succession, but only a few bricks collapsed. The main structure of the artillery tower was not affected.

"Battalion commander, we can only use explosive packs." The platoon leader said to the second battalion commander.

"Okay, you go organize it."

So the platoon leader selected the suicide squad members in their platoon to go forward and blow up the artillery tower.

The soldiers in a row knew that this was a life-threatening mission, but in order for their battalion to successfully recapture Qingfengling Town, they all raised their hands to participate without hesitation.

The platoon leader tearfully proposed two conditions for joining the suicide squad: first, those who were the only child in the family were not allowed to join, and those whose two brothers and sisters had died or were no longer alive were also not allowed to join.

Some of the raised hands dropped, and the platoon leader finally selected three soldiers to carry out this mission with him.

The soldiers disagreed with the platoon leader's mission, but the platoon leader said righteously, "You are all fearless, so why would I be a coward and retreat? There is no need to discuss this matter, just prepare for action."

Two suicide squad members were the first to grab two bundles of explosives and jumped towards the two artillery towers.

The company commander immediately organized all the machine guns in the company to fire at the firing holes of the Japanese artillery tower.

Two suicide squad members hung explosive packs around their necks, jumped, rolled, and crawled forward, approaching the artillery tower step by step.

However, about a hundred meters away from the artillery tower, two special forces soldiers were shot one after another.

The suicide squad member on the right fell down after being shot. He stretched out his right hand towards the artillery tower and wanted to crawl forward, but he quickly put his right hand down and lay there motionless.

The suicide squad member on the left paused for a moment after being shot, supported himself on the ground with his elbows, and continued to crawl towards the artillery tower.

The soldiers of the company in front of the artillery tower stared nervously at the suicide squad member on the left, their hearts in their throats.

There were still eighty meters left. The Japanese in the artillery tower were attracted by a series of fierce gunshots and did not pay attention to the suicide squad members who were climbing towards their artillery tower.

The suicide squad members' elbows were rubbed by the stones on the ground and were bleeding.

There were only sixty meters left, and the soldiers of the company were secretly cheering for the suicide squad member.

But this suicide squad member was clearly overwhelmed and was climbing slower and slower.

Finally, when he was about 40 meters away from the gun tower, the suicide squad member stopped and stretched his right hand forward. The color in his eyes gradually dimmed.

The life of the suicide squad member on the left was frozen at this moment. The platoon leader shouted to the suicide squad member next to him: "Bring more grenades, go!"

The platoon leader and the last suicide squad member jumped towards the artillery tower under the cover of the soldiers' machine guns.

The platoon leader threw a grenade forward, ran over quickly when the grenade blew up a cloud of dust, and then lay still on the ground.

The platoon leader looked at the enemy in the turret and threw another grenade forward, not noticing that he hadn't been noticing. Then he quickly ran towards the turret while the dust was settling.

After throwing three grenades in succession, a platoon leader ran to the left side of the deceased suicide squad member, took off the two explosive packs still hanging around his neck, and hung them around his own neck.

The platoon leader looked towards the Japanese artillery tower on the right and saw that the suicide squad member had died at some point.

He is the only one left among the four suicide squad members. The task of blowing up the Japanese artillery tower falls on him. Can he complete the mission?
