Devil's Army

Chapter 2127 Abandoning Longjing County

When the Japanese tanks were only 200 meters away from Longjing County, the rocket troops who were already waiting rushed up the city wall and aimed at the tanks that were rumbling towards them.

Japanese tanks entered the range of rockets, but the company commander had not yet given the order to fire.

The Japanese tanks were only about 100 meters from the city wall when the company commander gave the order:

"Fire!"

Ten rocket launchers fired simultaneously, ten rockets trailing flames, like ten fiery snakes rushing towards the Japanese tanks.

The sounds of Japanese tanks exploding one after another could be heard from below the city wall.

After the first wave of rocket soldiers fired, they quickly retreated. The second wave of rocket soldiers stepped forward, aimed at the tanks that continued to advance from behind, and opened fire together.

Ten more rockets, trailing flames, roared towards the tanks behind them.

The rocket troops of the 2nd and 1st Regiments destroyed 16 Japanese tanks in two rounds of intense salvo.

Japanese artillery then launched a fierce bombardment of Longjing County.

The rocket troops who retreated in time escaped the Japanese artillery bombardment, but the soldiers of the 2nd Regiment who were blocking the Japanese infantry on the city wall were subjected to intense bombardment by Japanese artillery.

To make matters worse for the soldiers of the Second Regiment, a Japanese fighter-bomber squadron arrived and bombed them.

After receiving the report, six Huaxia III fighter jets from the First Army arrived late.

Meanwhile, the Japanese air force had already seized the opportunity to withdraw back into Korean territory.

After two days of fierce fighting, the Second Regiment suffered considerable casualties and withdrew to the county for rest and reorganization.

The regiment took over the blocking mission and continued to resist the Japanese army's attack.

On the Japanese side, the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of his 7th Division in Korea also suffered heavy casualties in this battle to attack Longjing County, especially the 2nd Battalion, which almost lost its fighting capacity.

However, the Japanese army continued to launch attacks on Longjing County.

The 7th Brigade Commander considered that the people of Longjing County had already evacuated, and Yanji County had fallen. The Japanese army was attacking Hunchun County from the direction of Yanji County and Liushuifeng.

As an important stronghold on the Sino-North Korean border, Hunchun County currently only has the 4th Regiment of the 7th Brigade, the remnants of the 3rd Regiment of the 7th Brigade that withdrew from Yanji County, and the remnants of the newly formed 1st Regiment.

It was clearly a stretch for these 4000 soldiers to hold off nearly 3 ferocious Japanese and Korean troops.

Given that Hunchun County is an important stronghold on the Sino-North Korean border, with numerous fortresses and strongholds within its territory, it took nearly a month and a great deal of sacrifice to recapture Hunchun County.

If the Japanese invaders occupy the area again, who knows how many more soldiers will have to sacrifice their lives for the next recapture.

The 7th Brigade Commander decisively ordered the abandonment of Longjing County, and the officers and soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Regiments withdrew to Hunchun County.

In order to hold Hunchun County and await the arrival of reinforcements, the commander of the 7th Brigade ordered all the residents of the city to evacuate from Hunchun County.

However, China has never lacked patriotic and passionate young people. A considerable number of young men and women in Hunchun County volunteered to stay and assist the Seventh Brigade in resisting the Japanese army.

In particular, the teachers and students of Hunchun Middle School took to the streets to suggest that everyone transport ammunition, supplies, and wounded soldiers for the Seventh Brigade, contributing to the defense of Hunchun County.

The brigade commander had no choice but to order the political officers to arrange for the women, the elderly and children to evacuate first.

A vigorous campaign to "support the People's Liberation Army and resist the Japanese invaders" was launched in Hunchun County.

The brigade commander was so excited that he shouted to the officers and soldiers of the 7th Brigade at the mobilization meeting:

"With such popular support, how can we, as soldiers, live in disgrace! We, the Seventh Brigade of the First Anti-Japanese Army, swear to live and die with Hunchun County!!"
