Devil's Army
Chapter 1955 Burning of Huangmaoling and Xianxialing
This morning around 6 a.m., the Japanese army began to assemble, preparing to advance towards Yutian County.
The artillerymen were also ready to follow and carry out the major's plan to clear the way with poison gas.
At 7 o'clock, the roar of airplanes could be heard in the air.
Four fighter planes and two bombers from the Henan Air Force launched a fierce strafing and bombing attack on the Japanese infantry that were gathering outside Huangmaoling and Xianxialing.
The Japanese troops hurriedly hid in Huangmaoling and Xianxialing.
Soon after, four bombers formed the first echelon, flying in pairs towards Huangmaoling and Xianxialing.
Then the belly compartment opened, spilling a large patch of pale yellow liquid.
Ten minutes later, another four bombers formed the second wave and followed closely behind, dropping a large amount of pale yellow liquid.
Japanese soldiers hiding in Huangmaoling and Xianxialing from the air raids by the devilish troops were wondering why they could only hear the roar of planes but not the sound of bombs exploding.
To their surprise, they soon could no longer hear the beautiful sounds of the world.
Ten minutes after the second batch of bombers dropped fuel, eight bombers flew in pairs, two formations, over Huangmaoling and Xianxialing.
The first wave of four bombers dropped napalm bombs on Huangmaoling and Xianxialing respectively.
Two loud explosions were heard: the napalm bombs ignited the fuel that the bombers had previously spilled on Huangmaoling and Xianxialing.
Huangmaoling and Xianxialing were instantly engulfed by two enormous fireballs.
Twenty minutes later, the second batch of bombers arrived over Huangmaoling and Xianxialing and dropped thermite incendiary bombs into the sea of fire.
Thermite incendiary bombs not only burn at higher temperatures but also for longer periods, making them very difficult to extinguish.
The Japanese major behind Huangmaoling was stunned by what he saw.
Even though the wind was blowing from the west, the Japanese major still ordered his troops to retreat quickly.
Before retreating, the vicious major ordered the artillery to fire the remaining poison gas shells at the devil's unit's position.
However, the pilots of the First Army spotted the retreating Japanese troops and immediately dropped bombs and incendiary bombs on them.
The Japanese troops following behind, along with those at the command post, were burned and screamed in agony in the fire.
The fire ignited the ammunition on the Japanese trucks that were unable to evacuate.
The Japanese artillery, along with poison gas shells that hadn't yet been fired, were also ignited.
The sharp-eyed pilot spotted the green smoke billowing from the fire from the air and immediately reported it to the command center.
Leng Feng knew that the flames were not hot enough, otherwise the poisonous gas would vaporize or form aerosols, causing even greater harm.
So he directly ordered the brigade commander to deploy more thermite incendiary bombs to the area where the green smoke was rising.
(The decomposition temperature of a poison gas bomb must be between 200 and 500 degrees Celsius, and the burning time must be at least ten to thirty minutes. The central combustion temperature of an aluminothermic incendiary bomb can reach over 1000 degrees Celsius.)
To prevent the spread of toxic gas, the Anhui air force, which had already been transferred to Bailuo Airport in Jianli County, immediately took action upon receiving orders and dropped thermite incendiary bombs toward the area where the green smoke was rising.
Under the sustained and high-temperature combustion of the thermite incendiary bomb, all the unfired poison gas shells of the Japanese army were destroyed. The poison gas that was being emitted was also neutralized.
In retaliation for the Japanese army's use of inhumane poison gas in Zhejiang, the First Army dropped more incendiary bombs this time than in previous battles.
The Japanese troops at Huangmaoling and Xianxialing were almost completely wiped out in this massive fire attack by the First Army. However, this also raised new problems.
