Devil's Army

Chapter 1869 Encirclement and Annihilation of Several Japanese Reinforcements

The Japanese army's fierce offensive was repelled by the First Army Air Force. However, the Japanese army subsequently found countermeasures.

Their attacking forces bypassed the path and launched an attack on the Third Regiment's Donggushan position along the bushes on both sides.

Due to obstructed visibility, the First Army's air force found it difficult to bomb the attacking Japanese forces. However, the drawbacks of this Japanese offensive were also quite obvious.

Due to the terrain limitations, although there were more than 5000 Japanese and puppet troops, they could not spread out and were suppressed at the foot of Donggushan by two companies of the Third Regiment and the Nanxiong Air Force.

Meanwhile, the Japanese troops in De'an County continued to send telegrams requesting reinforcements to the division commander's office.

The Japanese commander had no choice but to order his troops to launch a continuous attack on the Donggushan position.

The battle continued until evening. After the First Army's air force returned to base, the Japanese army launched an even more ferocious attack on the Donggushan position.

Seeing that the firepower on the position was weakening, the battalion commanders of the first and second battalions immediately arranged for another company to go up and reinforce.

Several Japanese forces continued their attack until nightfall, but still failed to break through the Third Regiment's position.

At this time, the battle in De'an County was nearing its end.

A regiment of soldiers has completely recaptured De'an County and is now searching for and eliminating the remaining Japanese and puppet troops.

The next morning, the Japanese reinforcements learned from intelligence provided by the Japanese troops who had fled into De'an County, Jiujiang County, that the devilish force that had occupied De'an County this time had less than a regiment of soldiers.

The Japanese army wanted to use its superior forces to recapture De'an County, which was strategically important. So they launched another fierce attack on Donggushan.

Although the air force of the First Army did not come to support them, the Second Company of the First and Second Battalions hid in the artillery shelters and escaped the fierce bombardment by the Japanese artillery.

When the Japanese army launched its attack, it dealt them another heavy blow.

In the past, a single Japanese company could drive an entire regiment of the Nanjing government army to flee in all directions.

Now, their force of over 5000 men has been held back for two days and one night by two companies of the devilish army at the foot of Donggu Mountain.

The Japanese commander was so enraged that he wanted to hang himself with noodles.

After the regimental commander recaptured De'an County, he and a regiment of the Fifth Division of the New Fourth Army rushed to Donggushan.

Other units of the Third and Fourth Regiments of the Second Route Army also broke out of the Japanese encirclement and broke away from contact with the Japanese army, and are now encircling the Japanese army at Donggushan.

The Japanese reinforcements, having found no trace of the other devilish units, continued to focus their main offensive on the devilish units on Donggu Mountain.

Once we break through Donggushan and retake De'an County, we can connect De'an with Jiujiang.

But by this time, a huge net had been cast. Danger was closing in on several Japanese reinforcements.

Under the cover of intelligence provided by Golden Eagle, soldiers from the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Regiments of the 1st Brigade of the Independent Division evaded Japanese patrols and strongholds, and surrounded several Japanese reinforcements in front of the Donggushan position.

With the encirclement in place, the First Brigade launched its largest annihilation campaign outside Jiujiang County.

The 3rd and 4th battalions of the 3rd Regiment attacked from the rear; the 1st and 2nd battalions of the 4th Regiment attacked from the left flank, and the 3rd and 4th battalions attacked from the right flank; the 1st Regiment attacked from the front of Donggushan, launching a fierce counterattack against the Japanese and puppet troops.

Several Japanese reinforcements failed to break through the positions of the "Devil's Troops" at Donggushan and instead fell into the encirclement.

The Japanese commander reported to the regimental commander of the 68th Division in Jiujiang County that they were being besieged by seven or eight thousand devil troops and requested reinforcements.

The division commander hurriedly mobilized troops to provide support. However, on their way there, they were met with relentless bombing by the devilish air force, and their support efforts were thwarted.
