Devil's Army

Chapter 184 Harassment of the Japs

With the reinforcement of the guard platoon led by the battalion commander, the third company successfully repelled the Japanese's 11th round of charge.

The Japanese were exhausted after a day of fighting, and as the sky gradually darkened, they finally withdrew. They confronted the battalion commander in the fortifications in front of the anti-tank cones and did not launch a new round of charge.

During dinner, the second regiment commander brought the third battalion to the first battalion headquarters.

Before the Second Regiment Commander even stepped into the First Battalion Headquarters, his loud voice could be heard:

"Where is Crazy Huang? Where did Crazy Huang go?"

Huang Fengjie was the nickname of the commander of the first battalion. Before the army was restructured, he was the captain of the first squadron of the second squadron. He was famous for his courage and bravery in battle. Everyone said that he fought like a madman, and gradually everyone called him Huang Fengzi, and not many people mentioned his real name.

The second regiment commander entered the battalion headquarters and scanned the area. Not seeing the first battalion commander, he asked the deputy battalion commander:

"Where did Crazy Huang go?"

A deputy battalion commander saluted the second regiment commander and said:

"Report to the regiment commander, our battalion commander has taken the guard platoon to the fortifications."

"This crazy Huang. First Company Commander, send a platoon up immediately to replace them. Be careful of the Japanese night attacks. The others stay on standby and provide reinforcements at any time if anything happens." The Second Regiment Commander ordered the First Company Commander of the Second Battalion.

"Yes." The commander of the first company of the second battalion was about to go out, but the deputy battalion commander stopped him and said to the second regiment commander:

"Captain, you don't know the temper of our battalion commander. The platoon leader will definitely not be able to replace them."

"Tell the platoon leader to tell him that if Crazy Huang doesn't come down, I will go up and replace him myself."

"Yes." The company commander went out to arrange the tasks.

The second regiment commander was listening to the deputy battalion commander's report on the battlefield situation when the first battalion commander came back.

As soon as the battalion commander saw the second regiment commander, he immediately cried out to him with a sad face:

"Captain, you have to arrange new soldiers for me. I'm now a platoon leader."

"Go away, I'm ready to be the squad leader and arrange new soldiers for you."

When the battalion commander heard what the second regiment said, he immediately realized that the situation was serious.

The Second Regiment Commander repeated to them what Commander Leng had said to the Second Brigade Commander, and then added:

"Commander Leng said that if we can't hold this line of fortification, we should all go home and take care of our children. He asked a brigade that is good at positional warfare to come and replace us."

"Why can the First Brigade hold on but we can't?" Everyone in the battalion headquarters started arguing. The second regiment commander's provocation successfully aroused the unwillingness to admit defeat in everyone's hearts.

The second captain waved his hand to stop everyone's quarrel and said:

"If the devils sleep well at night, they will continue to pick on us during the day. We have to find a way to make them sleep poorly at night."

Everyone nodded in agreement, and the second team leader continued:

"Third Battalion Commander, you will arrange a platoon to launch harassing attacks on the enemy every hour. A sentry should be posted at the work site to prevent the enemy from surrounding us. The action will begin at 12:00 a.m. Second Battalion Commander, except for the first company that was preparing to reinforce, everyone else should retreat to the rear and have a good rest. Tomorrow, it will be up to you to defend the position."

"Yes" everyone responded in unison.

"Now everyone go and get ready." The second regiment commander said this and waved his hand, and everyone left the first battalion headquarters.

The second battalion commander led the second and third companies to the grove behind the first battalion headquarters to rest.

The Third Battalion Commander convened a meeting of platoon leaders and above outside the First Battalion Headquarters to arrange the plan and details for harassing and attacking the Japanese.

Finally, the three battalion commanders decided to select three places on both sides of the enemy troops and deploy three sentries in advance. Before the troops attacked, they would communicate with the sentries. If the sentries responded, it meant that it was safe and they could attack the enemy troops. If the sentries did not respond, it meant that the enemy troops had set up an ambush nearby and they should retreat immediately and look for another harassment point.

At half past eleven, the sentries at various harassment attack points climbed up the trees and stood guard.

At 12 o'clock, the first platoon of the first company of the third battalion took the lead in launching a fierce attack on the enemy from the left side of the anti-tank cone group. Grenades and bullets were fired at the enemy's tent. A mortar also participated in the attack.

The Japs' camp was filled with explosions and the sounds of the Japs running and shouting in confusion.

Twenty minutes later, a squadron of Japanese soldiers surrounded the attacking area.

The first row quickly retreated and left the battle.

This squadron of the Japanese had been searching near where the platoon leader had just attacked them, but apart from a pile of bullet shells, they did not find a single person.

At 1 a.m., a platoon-scale battle broke out on the right side of the anti-tank cone. The second platoon of the first company was ordered to attack the Japanese on the right side of the anti-tank cone.

Ten minutes later, the sentry spotted a squadron of Japanese soldiers approaching from the tree and immediately hooted like an owl.

As soon as the second platoon heard the sentry's alarm, they retreated immediately. This squadron of Japanese soldiers was once again in vain.

At two o'clock in the morning, the soldiers of the third platoon of the first company launched another attack on the Japanese on the left side of the anti-tank cone group, more than 300 meters below where they had just attacked the Japanese.

More than ten minutes later, the third row heard the cry of an owl and retreated immediately.

A Japanese lieutenant colonel in charge of the alert cursed angrily. He analyzed the attack pattern of the devil's troops and buried an ambush a mile away to the right of the anti-tank cone group.

At three o'clock in the morning, the soldiers of the first platoon of the second company really reached the right side of the anti-tank cone group, more than 300 meters below the attack point, and prepared to attack the Japanese. However, he sent a secret signal to the sentry twice, but did not hear the sentry's reply. The platoon leader decisively stopped the attack and led the troops to retreat.

After retreating, the platoon leader went down to the third ambush point. He sent the sentry two more secret signals, but still did not hear the sentry's reply. He decisively stopped the attack and retreated with his troops.

After retreating, the platoon leader came to the first ambush point on the right. It was nearly four o'clock. He sent a signal to the sentry, who immediately responded to the platoon leader. The platoon leader immediately led the soldiers to fiercely attack the Japanese.

A platoon ran to three places in one night. The soldiers were all full of anger. They turned their anger into strength of their arms and threw grenades into the Japanese tents and fires.

Knowing that there were ambushes nearby, the platoon leader ordered the soldiers to quickly throw all the grenades, fire a few rounds of gunfire and then retreat immediately.

When the ambushing Japanese soldiers ran up from below, one row had already fled and not a single person was visible.

It was already four o'clock at this time, and the second platoon of the second company launched an attack on the Japanese at the third attack point on the opposite side as agreed.

After the first and second platoons of the second company completed the attack, the Japs sent people to both sides like crazy, preparing to ambush the attacking forces of the Devil Army.

At this time, the third battalion commander decisively canceled the attack mission originally planned for five o'clock.

The Japs were tossing and turning all night long, while the troops of the second and third companies of the second battalion were soundly sleeping in the grove.
