When the Second Regiment's search team entered Hongshankou Village, the Japanese ambush troops, who had nowhere to hide, suddenly opened fire.

The search force of the Second Regiment suffered heavy casualties, and only a few soldiers retreated outside Hongshankou.

The artillery of the Second Regiment immediately launched a fierce bombardment on the exposed Japanese positions on both sides of Hongshankou.

The First Army's air force then launched a fierce bombing of the Japanese positions on both sides of Hongshankou. However, the dense forest blocked the First Army's pilots' sight, causing the bombing to fail to achieve the desired effect.

After the double bombing by artillery and air force stopped, the soldiers of the first and second battalions of the second regiment launched a fierce attack on the positions on both sides of Hongshankou.

The Japanese army quickly climbed out of the fortifications and stubbornly blocked the attack of the Second Regiment from a high position.

The battle lasted until evening. The first and second battalions suffered considerable sacrifices, but still failed to break through the Hongshankou position.

At night, the third battalion attacked the Japanese Hongshankou position, but was discovered by the cunning Japanese army.

After a fierce battle between the two sides, the Third Battalion withdrew from the Hongshankou position.

In order to reduce casualties, the commander of the Second Regiment decisively gave up breaking through the Japanese Hongshankou position.
