The Japanese army urgently dispatched an artillery unit to the north gate for support. During the transfer, it was discovered by the Xinjing Air Force and was subjected to a fierce air attack by the air force.

All five cannons were destroyed by the air force.

The tanks of the 17th Brigade, having no opponents, advanced quickly and soon arrived near the city gate.

Japanese soldiers hid behind the city walls and kept throwing explosive packs and grenades at the tanks, but they were fiercely strafed by the tanks' machine guns and suffered heavy casualties.
