Devil's Army

Chapter 14 Ambush of Loneliness

Leng Feng and Gray Wolf led the first team to the left side of the mountain, while Wen Wolf led the second team to the opposite side of the mountain. Leng Feng arranged for Gray Wolf and Jackal to ambush with the grenadiers in the first trench. The trench was covered with branches and weeds, so it was hard to tell if you didn't look carefully. He and the rest of the team ambushed in the second trench!

"Jackal, release the golden eagle and see if the Japanese have arrived?" Leng Feng ordered Zhang Junxi.

"Yes." Jackal opened his backpack and took out a laptop. After a while of operation, a drone parked on an open space on the mountainside took off from the open space and flew towards the county town.

He Guihua was standing next to the jackal, staring at it curiously. She saw many familiar scenes on the glass screen in front of the jackal, and she was very surprised.

After a while, the drone flew back. Jackal parked it and walked over to Leng Feng:

"Report to the captain. No Japanese troops have been spotted on the road from the village entrance to the county town."

Leng Feng nodded and walked down the mountainside with Gray Wolf.

The Japanese had not arrived yet. Leng Feng was walking slowly on the path with a cigarette in his right hand, thinking.

"Gray Wolf, bury an anti-personnel mine at this position." Leng Feng said to Gray Wolf, pointing to the position where they were about to walk out of the mountain pass.

"Okay, I'll arrange it right away." The Gray Wolf then turned and left.

Suddenly, Leng Feng stopped at a flat ground at the corner, then quickly walked to the small flat ground and glanced at the hillside on the left. His view was blocked by the hillside.

"Wenlang, Wenlang, come down for a moment." Leng Feng shouted into the headset.

"Okay, I'll be there soon." After a while, Wen Lang from the right side of the mountainside trotted over to Leng Feng and asked:

"Captain, what's going on?"

"What do you think this vacant lot can be used for?" Leng Feng asked Wen Lang.

Wenlang stood in the open space, glanced at the left side of the mountainside, and said with a smile:

"I understand." Then he made a few gestures towards Leng Feng.

Leng Feng nodded in understanding, then leaned over to Wen Lang's ear and muttered something.

"Captain, you are very bad." Wen Lang said with a smile: "I will go and arrange it right away."

Leng Feng smiled and waved. Wen Lang saluted and left.

Leng Feng paced for a while and then returned to the second trench. As the Japanese had not yet arrived, the team members were lazily lying on the hillside, basking in the dappled sunlight that filtered through the leaves.

"He Guihua, come here." Leng Feng shouted to He Guihua in front of him.

"Okay, Captain." He Guihua immediately walked to Leng Feng.

"Since we are short of manpower and have a heavy combat mission, can you find a few capable villagers in the village to take charge of our logistics work? Mainly cooking and transporting ammunition during war. Our military rations are reserved for emergencies. Now we are temporarily borrowing food from the villagers, and we will return it to them when we take it back from the Japanese invaders."

"Okay, no problem. Let He Chunhua take care of the laundry and cooking, and let He Bangzi take care of transporting the ammunition. Xiao Lingdang lives with Sister Wanting now, and they are both single, so let them live with us?"

"Okay, no problem. It's past 9 o'clock now. Go back to the village and arrange lunch. And ask for their opinions."

"Okay, I'll go back now."

"Okay, let's go."

At about 11:10, He Guihua and some fellow villagers came to Leng Feng's side with lunch. He Chunhua and another group of fellow villagers also went to Wenlang's side with lunch.

"Jackal, release the golden eagle and take a look to see if the Japanese are coming?" Leng Feng ordered.

"Okay," the Jackal replied.

After a while, Jackal reported that he still hadn't found any Japanese.

"Grey Wolf, bring the comrades up to have lunch first."

"Got it!" replied the gray wolf.

Soon the bombardiers came over from the trenches on both sides and surrounded Leng Feng. They took the lunch from the villagers and started eating.

"Captain, He Chunhua and He Bangzi both agreed, and they are very happy." He Guihua walked up to Leng Feng and said.

"Okay, you will be responsible for following up on the logistics matters." Leng Feng responded while eating sweet potatoes.

"Okay, no problem, I'll complete the task." He Guihua happily saluted and then took two sweet potatoes and walked to the gray wolf.

"Grey Wolf, do you think the Japanese will come? Will we be waiting in vain?" He Guihua asked while squatting beside Grey Wolf.

"Are you saying that we are lying in ambush in vain? No, our captain's sense is always accurate. The Japanese should be coming." Gray Wolf responded.

"Then why haven't you come yet?"

"There must be something delaying you. Let's wait a little longer."

"Grey Wolf, what is that piece of glass in Jackal's hand?" He Guihua asked, pointing at the laptop that Jackal was fiddling with.

"Oh, that's a computer monitor." Gray Wolf looked up and said.

"Why is it so powerful? Can it put all those things in front of the village in?" He Guihua asked puzzledly.

With a "puff", the gray wolf laughed when he heard this, and the sweet potato in his mouth sprayed onto He Guihua's face.

"What are you doing?" He Guihua looked at the gray wolf in surprise and shouted.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it." Gray Wolf saw the sweet potato crumbs in He Guihua's face and hair, and reached out to help her tidy them up, but she pushed them away with one hand.

"Hahaha..." Everyone burst into laughter when they saw this scene.
