At this time, the 21th Division of the 104st Army of the Japanese Army in Guangzhou launched an attack on Nanhai County of the st Army from Xiguan, Sanyuanli, Baiyun, and Tangxi areas west of Guangzhou City.

The Japanese 8th Division launched an attack on the First Army’s Nanhai County headquarters from Huadu, Tanbu and Chini.

Deputy Commander Du Shaoqing, who rushed to Nanhai County from Hainan Island and was responsible for organizing the defense of the South China Sea and coastal battles, urgently called a halt to the Third Division's actions and prepared to send reinforcements to Nanhai County at any time.

At Xiguan, west of Guangzhou City, two squadrons of the 104th Division of the Japanese Army encountered stubborn resistance from a battalion of the rd Division when they reached the pass of the official road leading to Nanhai County.

The artillery of the 104th Division of the Japanese Army launched a fierce bombardment on the Guantong Pass position, but the bombers of the st Army of Weizhou Island soon came to reinforce.

The Japanese artillery immediately stopped firing and went into hiding.

When they marched to Maofeng Mountain, they encountered stubborn resistance from the 2nd Regiment of the 2nd Division of the 1st Army's Southern Front.

The second regiment commander arranged a battalion to dig anti-artillery fortifications on Maofeng Mountain.

When the Japanese army arrived at the foot of Maofeng Mountain, the soldiers of the Second Battalion took advantage of the cover on the fortifications and fired fiercely at the Japanese army from their high ground.

When the Japanese army sent out artillery to bombard the Maofeng Mountain position, all the soldiers of the first battalion hid in the anti-artillery fortifications.

As soon as the Japanese artillery bombardment stopped, all the soldiers of the first battalion came out of the fortifications and fired fiercely at the attacking Japanese infantry.

The artillery of the Second Division hidden in Maofeng Mountain detected the approximate location of the Japanese artillery positions and immediately opened fire to suppress the Japanese artillery.

The two sides bombarded each other for a while, and the artillery of the Second Division also took the time to bomb the attacking Japanese infantry.

A part of the Japanese 104th Division attacked Maofeng Mountain twice but failed, so it stopped the attack.

Then a fighter plane from the First Army escorted a bomber to come to reinforce. At this time, the fighting basically stopped.

The fighter planes and bombers of the First Army launched strafing and bombing at the Japanese infantry at the foot of Maofeng Mountain.

The Japanese troops at the foot of Maofeng Mountain did not resist and quickly hid in the woods on both sides of Maofeng Mountain.

After the First Army's fighters and bombers returned, the Japanese army quickly withdrew to Baiyun Sanyuanli and Tangxi.

The Japanese Army's Eighth Division advanced from Tanbu and Chi Ni towards Nanhai County. When they reached the winding mountain road in the Shishan area, they were fiercely attacked by soldiers from the Second Division and the Third Regiment who were ambushed on the mountain.

The Japanese vanguard suffered heavy casualties and had to withdraw from Shishan.
