Devil's Army

Chapter 1156: Guerrillas sneak into Xinglong County

Captain Pei began to arrange for his team members to sneak into Xinglong County in batches through several city gates of Xinglong County.

At around 2:00 p.m. that day, Captain Pei and four guerrillas prepared to sneak into the city from the north gate of Xinglong County.

When they arrived at the city gate, a guerrilla saw his father preparing to leave the city.

The old father was about to say hello to his son, but the guerrilla waved his hand at his father, saying that it was not convenient for him to recognize his father.

A puppet soldier behind him thought his old father was walking too slowly and blocking the road, so he knocked him down with the butt of his rifle.

A Japanese soldier at the city gate thought something had happened and shot the guerrilla's father dead with one shot.

This guerrilla fighter was preparing to enter the city with another veteran fighter, pretending to be father and son.

He was heartbroken when he saw this scene, but he could do nothing but follow the panicked people into the city.

Captain Pei and his men returned to the guerrilla fighter's home in Xinglong County.

When his mother saw him coming back, she said with great joy:

"Zhijie, your father just happened to be out of town and wanted to look for you. Didn't you see him?"

When Zhijie heard this, he immediately burst into tears.

When the mother saw this, she became anxious and asked hurriedly:

"Zhijie, what happened?"

"Mom, Dad is gone."

"Go, didn't you meet him on the way?"

Zhijie choked up and was speechless.

Captain Pei said to Zhijie's mother uncomfortably:

"Auntie, we just met the uncle at the city gate."

"Oh, he went to look for Zhijie. Aunt Li from the next village helped him find a girl, and he wanted to ask himself to come back to see her. Why didn't he come back with you?"

"He can't come back." Captain Pei looked at Zhijie's mother and continued:

"The uncle was killed by the devils at the city gate."

When Zhijie's mother heard this, the basket in her hand fell to the ground.

Zhijie also went from choking to bursting into tears.

"Don't worry, Auntie. We came to the city to kill the devils. We will avenge your uncle," said Captain Pei.

The old lady was afraid that everyone would feel sad, so she didn't cry out loud, but just shed tears silently.

Two days later, at around 118: p.m., the members of the Lubei guerrillas who had sneaked into the city gathered one after another at an open area on the north bank of the Luanhe Railway Bridge.

At half past four, a Golden Eagle drone carrying weapons and ammunition landed on the open space.

Captain Pei distributed weapons and ammunition to everyone.

After distributing the weapons, Captain Pei divided the guerrillas into five teams, responsible for capturing and defending the Liuhe Bridge, Luanhe Railway Bridge, Beihe Bridge, Chaohe Bridge and Chehe Small Wooden Bridge. He repeated the mission to everyone.

After understanding the mission, everyone evacuated the empty area on the north bank of the Luanhe Railway Bridge in batches.

Who knew that the first team to evacuate, Team 5, which was responsible for capturing the small wooden bridge over Chehe River, was discovered by a Japanese patrol team not far from Kongping.

The Japanese patrol team surrounded the Fifth Squad of the Lubei Guerrillas.

The Japanese grenade throwers and machine gunners continued to bomb and shoot at the guerrillas of the Fifth Squad.

The Japanese garrison on the north bank of the Luanhe Railway Bridge also came to reinforce.

If the guerrillas of the fifth squad led this squad of Japanese soldiers to the open space where they were assembled, they would definitely be able to escape with their current manpower and firepower. However, the Japanese soldiers in Xinglong County would soon know that more than 100 guerrillas had infiltrated.

In that case, Captain Pei and his men would be caught in a continuous battle with the Japanese army. The First Anti-Japanese Army would not launch an attack on Xinglong County until tomorrow.

In this way, they must fight the Japanese army alone until tomorrow.

Not to mention whether they can hold out until tomorrow, the battle assigned to them by the Fifth Brigade Commander to capture the bridges tomorrow will not be able to be carried out.

The captain of the fifth team resolutely led more than 20 guerrillas to break out in the opposite direction.

Captain Pei was extremely anxious as he heard the gunshots getting farther and farther away and becoming more and more sparse. But he could do nothing, and he did not dare to expose the main force and intentions of their guerrillas.

After the gunfire died down, the Japanese troops resumed their normal patrols.

The fate of Team 5 was unknown, so the mission to capture the small wooden bridge over Che River could not be accomplished.

The captains of the four teams all suggested that each team should select five members to form five new teams to seize the small wooden bridge over Chehe River.

Captain Pei folded his hands, walked around the empty field for a few times, and decided to give up trying to capture the Chehe wooden bridge for the time being.

Firstly, the current manpower is indeed insufficient, with each team having only more than 20 people, so the task is very difficult.

Secondly, the Chehe wooden bridge is not on the main road of Xinglong County. Once the overall situation in Xinglong County is settled, the Chehe wooden bridge can be easily recaptured by cooperating with the main force of the First Anti-Japanese Army.

Everyone agreed with Captain Pei's opinion.

Due to concerns about further accidents, everyone stayed in the open space in the woods until dark before leaving one after another and heading for their destinations.
