HP: For a better world
Chapter 93 The Inherited Temporary Vault
The goblin led him through a dark, damp stone corridor.
Torches were hung on both sides of the stone corridor, the dim flames flickered, and orange-red shadows fell on the stone walls. Winster saw the old goblin close his two long fingernails and whistled.
Winster followed its line of sight and saw a cart running towards him.
The goblin motioned for him to get on the cart he had summoned - there was really nothing to say, as this vault was actually very shallow. The cart stopped after going down a few floors, and one could even see the magical light shining through the dome, illuminating the surroundings so brightly that even torches were unnecessary.
The old goblin took Winster to the door and exchanged a few words with the goblin who came to guard this floor.
The guarding goblin opened the door and handed it a cowhide notebook.
The vault was just a hole of moderate size, with only a few scattered gold galleons in it. Winster counted them and found that there were about fifty left, just enough to have a few left after taking out the money.
Winster looked around the vault and found nothing there, just like when he came. He just put the damaged wand back.
"—to deposit and withdraw 50 Galleons and a damaged hazel wand?"
The old goblin squinted his eyes, ran his fingers across the pages, and wrote down the access records. Then he read it again slowly to confirm with Winster what he was going to take out.
"Yes, that's all." Winster put it in his pocket.
The old goblin lowered his head again and signed the name of the person in charge on one side of the paper.
Winster glanced over furtively, hoping to see something different in the record—the name of the previous owner of the vault, for instance.
The old goblin was keenly aware of someone's movements, and he snapped the account book shut and glared at Winster: "Keep your eyes open, wizard. Is there anything else you want to do?"
"Help me connect this account." Winster casually mentioned the vault that he had just signed a contract with Malfoy to build. Later, Malfoy would deposit the share into his personal account on time according to the contract.
The old witch knew that this was the account of a new big customer. His eyes quickly began to light up and his words became more attentive.
"Okay, sir, please forgive my mistake. I forgot to remind you that the fifteen-year term of this temporary vault is about to expire. Do you want to extend it? The annual maintenance fee for the extension is one Galleon. Since you are not yet an adult, it will require a deposit of fifty Galleons to convert it to a long-term vault. Then the annual maintenance fee of five Galleons can be reduced to a deeper level in Gringotts, where you can enjoy more perfect protection measures..." It introduced incessantly and recommended it strongly.
Winster responded absentmindedly, his eyes darting around, "Do you know who the previous owner of this vault was?"
The old goblin's endless sales pitch came to a halt, and he said unhappily, "Sorry, sir, the goblin will not reveal the information of the owner of the vault to anyone."
"Well then," Winster nodded regretfully, and glanced at the goblin guard standing motionless next to him. He changed the subject and raised his chin to indicate, "What about it? How long has it been working here?"
Winster asked.
The old demon understood immediately, and it came over and made a few gestures, meaning that it had been twenty years.
Winster nodded thoughtfully and lowered his voice to the old goblin, "Let me talk to it."
The old goblin hesitated for a moment and secretly glanced at the goblin guard who was lowering his head.
Winster decisively stuffed a few Sickles into it, and suddenly felt a little painful as he counted the Galleons left in his pocket.
The old goblin took the bribe expertly, stuffed it into his pocket, and said, "I can't guarantee that you can find out anything."
"I just want to talk to it alone."
"Okay, but no more than thirty minutes!" The old goblin whispered, "No matter what you want to ask, I will come back to find you if it's more than thirty minutes. If you disappear, I will sound the alarm. I hope you are not planning to rob me, wizard - you don't want to know what happens to thieves."
The old goblin warned. After that, it raised its head, glanced at the goblin guard who seemed to notice nothing, and said in a commanding manner: "You stay here to watch our customers. I need to go upstairs and will be back soon."
The goblin guard was still standing there obediently.
Since he has been guarding this floor for twenty years... then this goblin must have also seen the previous owner of the vault - the mother of this body of Winster White.
"You've been working here for a long time, right?" Winster asked first.
The goblin guard shuddered as if frightened by him, and his pointed ears stood up and stuck to the back of his head, as if he had not expected it to speak: "Yes, it has been twenty years, Mr. Wizard."
"I want to ask you something."
The goblin guard looked at him warily. "Don't even think about getting any information about the vault from me, wizard!"
"The goblins never reveal the information of the underground vault to anyone. If you want to take a fortune from our underground vault that never belonged to you, I can only tell you that this news will never come out of my mouth."
"I'm not interested in other vaults." Winster said. The goblin guard looked unconvinced. He continued, "I only want to know the news about my vault."
"The goblins once told me that the previous owner of this vault was a witch." Winster raised his head and glanced at the dome. The magical simulated skylight illuminated most of the corridor. The light from an unknown source shone through the top of his head, allowing people to see the cart flying overhead.
The three-dimensional railway tracks stretch across the entire underground, and the shadows become darker the deeper you go.
The goblin guard kept his mouth tightly shut.
"My name is on the admission book, so this vault belongs to me."
Winster took out a gold Galleon, waved it in front of the goblin guard, and then placed the Galleon in its hand as it stared at him.
"——I just want to know a little more about the previous owner of the vault."
He examined the face of the goblin guard in front of him. Because of the different species, most of the facial expressions could not be seen to be true or false. Only the hesitation flashed in its eyes.
The goblin stroked the gold coins in his hand, his eyes flickering, but he refused: "... Gringotts never discloses the information of the vault to anyone... Most temporary vaults are anonymous, and every time they come, they are as secretive as you. How can I know who the wizard who comes is?"
The fairy denied it, but her hand kept rubbing back and forth, touching the mark of the gold coin, and she was reluctant to move away.
Winster stared at it, and said in a gentle and coaxing tone: "I just want your guess - what was the identity of the previous owner of this vault, the witch?"
Seeing that it was still hesitating, Winster smiled slightly, stuffed three more gold galleons into it, and said in a low voice:
"I just want to know something else... You've been working here for so many years and have met so many different kinds of wizards. You should have some guesses - otherwise..."
Winster pretended to take the money back.
The goblin was frightened and hurriedly stuffed the money into a pocket and hid it.
Once you receive the money, you have to do something.
Winster ignored the rest of its movements, staring at its suddenly greedy face, and urged: "It's just a guess. You've met so many people, don't you have any idea about her identity?"
The fairy hid the money and then patted her clothes with a look of satisfaction.
"Are you really just asking for some guesses?" the goblin asked suspiciously. "I won't be responsible if you are not satisfied."
"You just need to tell me what you think." Winster said, "You have seen so many wizards, who do you think she is?"
The goblin looked around a few times before waving to Winster to come over.
Winster tilted his ear away.
"What I told you is just a guess. You can't say it in front of other fairies."
"Then tell me your guess," Winster urged.
The goblin rolled his eyes back and laughed,
"You want to know her background, wizard. Since you are sensible, I will tell you a little information. There is no doubt that the witch is a pure-blood. As soon as she came in, I knew who she was. Even if she was wearing a hood and changed her clothes, I could recognize her. The smell on her body could not escape the identity of a pure-blood family. It's just a matter of where. She is a witch from a pure-blood family." The fairy pouted and said, "I have seen many witches like this."
"Why do you say that?" asked Winster.
"This has happened more than once or twice," the goblin shrugged. "You'll understand after seeing it so many times. It's obvious that she eloped with someone. Her lover can't be accepted by her family. He must be a Muggle or something. He can't get away with it. Those people can't accept him."
The goblin shrugged, "I ran away from home and didn't dare let my family know, so I came to Gringotts and set up a temporary vault without my name."
Winster asked softly, "So which pure-blood family do you think she comes from?"
The fairy's eyes rolled around a few times: "I don't know about that. I can't answer what you want to ask. I'm just chatting with you about gossip. How could I have leaked the information to anyone? I can only tell you that it doesn't sound very British. Her accent is wrong." The fairy squinted her eyes and smiled, telling him the last piece of news.
That's too broad a range.
Winster thought about it and breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as it doesn't cause any trouble for himself, he doesn't want to be stuck in the quagmire of any family. Snape is very good to him, and he has no interest in finding another relative for himself.
As long as it wasn't Blake, Winster didn't really care about a name, he was just afraid it would cause more trouble.
