HP: For a better world

Chapter 66: Forbidden Forest

But it was too late, blocking the moonlight would not prevent the werewolf from transforming. It was just Snape's wishful thinking.

This was the most awkward moment. Lupin was sandwiched in the middle of the team, blocking Sirius and Harry behind. Hermione, Winston, and Snape were in good condition, having already gotten out of the passage and were no longer trapped in the narrow space. The only injured and sick person, Ron, was next to Lupin. Ron opened his eyes wide in shock: "What!" He screamed in horror: "Didn't you feed him the wolfsbane potion!!!"

Snape was already tense with concentration, and when he heard this, he immediately became furious: "How many times have I told you that talking about toxicity without considering the dosage is just a hooligan - damn it - stand behind me!!"

Snape shuddered, and saw the cold madness casting a ruthless glance from the moon. That was the inevitable despair of the werewolf, who had been infinitely close to him under the malice of others - Snape was tense, paying attention to Lupin's every move.

Lupin opened his mouth in astonishment: "I obviously drank it..." He raised his head and looked at the invisible moon above the passage. That was the source of his lifelong pain. The familiar and powerless pain surged up, spreading from his blood to his whole body. "Severus - Severus - protect them!!!"

Lupin struggled in pain, and roared at him with his last bit of sanity. But as his sanity disappeared, his last words turned into a wolf howl along with the word "them" -

“Ouch—woo—”

Wolf hair replaced human hair, wolf knuckles replaced human knuckles - vocal cords changed, turned into wolf howls, joints swelled, howling at the moon. No more sanity, only madness.

Lupin had been lucky enough not to hurt anyone because of the kindness of others - but he couldn't be lucky forever.

Werewolf means misfortune.

Winster witnessed a physical version of a werewolf transformation.

It was like the demon hidden deep within the human race in the legend. Once it appeared, it could not wait to devour the human skin. It came out of Lupin's body with blood dripping, and grew wolf's eyes and fur. It stretched out its claws with broken skin and blood, and sniffed greedily at the smell.

The first to suffer was Ron.

"Damn it - back off - back off -" Snape gave up pointing his wand at Peter and pointed it out with bloodshot eyes. Winston and Hermione were stopped behind him.

Ron lost Lupin's magical support and fell to the ground with a thud during his transformation. He lost his voice in fear and even forgot to shake his head. Blood splashed on his face. He just dragged his broken leg and crawled back, hoping that the narrow passage where his broken leg fell could save his life: "Oh... no... no——"

Hermione was panic-stricken, "Ron! Ron!" But Snape stopped her firmly, not giving her the chance to rush out rashly - meeting a werewolf was no joke.

Only a few are simply bitten, most are torn to pieces.

If Snape was alone, everything would be fine. But there were three innocent and weak students here. He couldn't run away or hide, he had to protect them.

Black had heard the noise coming from the front of them and his smile stopped: "Not good!" He quickly pressed Harry behind him. "I'll rush out to stop Remus first, Harry, you go and follow the snot-"

He took a few quick steps forward and pounced on the ground, transforming into a black dog as tall as a wolf, with a body like a golden retriever, but extremely thin.

He ran forward a few steps, swung his tail, and headed out of the passage following the smell.

-

"Professor, Professor Lupin! I'm Ron, calm down, calm down!! If you bite me, you can't stay in Hogwarts." Ron said in a trembling voice as he shrank back.

The werewolf, who had drunk some medicine, was not ready to attack. He just dribbled through the water and looked at the prey with a broken leg with his dark green eyes. The smell of fear rushed into his nose.

It sniffed the air.

The content of Snape's lecture emerged in Ron's mind more clearly than ever before, but it was too late to recall it now.

[“After transforming, a werewolf is just a brutal beast, without any reason or human emotions. Although they will regain consciousness after the full moon and retain all the memories of their transformation into werewolves. But…” Snape glared at Ron who was drawing on the book, and said coldly: “Weasley, you tell me what will happen.”

"Uh, uh..." Ron stammered and stood up, "But they can't control their every move when they turn into a werewolf? The best thing to do when you meet a werewolf is to run away?"

"Hmph, the answer is correct, sit down! Mr. Weasley." Snape stared at him with his dark eyes, in a very bad temper.

He sat down, breathed a sigh of relief, turned a page to cover the doodles he had just written, and shoved the quill back into his bag. Harry, who was listening to the lecture, came over and patted him comfortingly.]

There was no way to escape. Ron thought desperately that it would be better to close his eyes and wait for death than to become a werewolf.

He saw the nervous and frightened Hermione Winchester behind the werewolf and Snape, who was holding his wand with an angry look on his face but was slow to cast a spell.

Ron suddenly realized that the werewolf was blocking their view. He was too close to the werewolf, and Snape was worried that if he cast a spell, it would kill him first.

Ron closed his eyes and dared not move, smelling the fishy stench from the werewolf's mouth and feeling it curiously nuzzling towards the bleeding part of his broken leg. There wasn't much blood, it was just twisted into a strange shape.

He gritted his teeth and endured the pain, letting the wolf kiss poke his right leg. He fell backwards bit by bit with difficulty.

"Look here—werewolf!" shouted Harry as he emerged from the passage after the black dog.

The werewolf howled and looked over in confusion, his nose twitching.

The black dog took advantage of the moment when it stood up and pounced on it and started fighting with it.

Harry rushed over and grabbed Ron, not caring about his broken leg, and stumbled towards Snape and the others.

The werewolf noticed the movement of the living person next to him, and his eyes were drawn to him, ready to pounce. However, he was bitten fiercely by the black dog transformed by Blake, and the bite on the wolf's mouth was so painful that he started fighting with him again.

Ron limped and shivered as he tried to keep up with Harry.

Snape took a few eager steps forward, grabbed Ron's shoulders, pressed him behind him, and pushed Harry towards the castle.

"Let's go! Go back quickly. Black and I will cover the rear, and you take Weasley——"

"Professor! Wait! Where's Peter Pettigrew!" Harry shouted.

Snape hurriedly ordered: "Winster--"

"Teacher, don't worry--"

While everyone was not paying attention, Peter broke free from the rope that was out of Snape's control, and fiercely pushed Winston, who was only worried about Harry and the others, to the ground, and jumped to the werewolf who was fighting with the big black dog.

The black dog barked at him in fear and anger, and tried to turn its head to bite him, but the werewolf, stimulated by his blood, seized the opportunity to bite him back viciously.

The dog's barking turned into a howl.

Snape only had time to fire a spell at the werewolf, deflecting its wolf face as it bit Black's neck.

Peter's green bean-like eyes flashed with ecstasy and resentment. He rushed forward, ignoring the claws swept across the fight, picked up Lupin's dropped wand and laughed shrilly: "It was not in vain - it was not in vain! It was not in vain that I squatted on the water pipe and encouraged those rats to dig the sewer to steal from the kitchen!"

He didn't intend to explain like a villain, he just wanted to survive - going to Azkaban would only lead to death.

"Die here! Sirius--" he shouted viciously.

A green beam burst out from the wand and rushed towards the black dog's side, hating him for destroying his comfortable mouse life.

But Wormtail immediately dropped it with a snap, as if his hand had been burned by the spell he had cast, and his face turned pale.

At this moment, Black was hit on the shoulder blade by the werewolf's claw and was thrown out, seeing Wormtail's distorted face.

While the werewolf was being attracted by the fresh blood food that jumped near it, the dog swung its tail in the air and narrowly avoided the dangerous attack.

But he also lost the chance to readjust his balance and fell heavily to the ground, feeling dizzy and unable to recover for a while.

Seeing that the werewolf's attention was about to shift to him, Peter's eyes turned, and he quickly grabbed the wand that he had let go of and dived into the ground.

"Squeak!" A bald-haired rat squeaked twice, dropped Lupin's wand, and ran away.

The werewolf had no interest in mice at all. When he saw the prey slip away from his mouth in the blink of an eye, he was immediately furious. He howled to the sky and cast his eyes on Harry, Hermione, and Ron, who had a broken leg, who were protected by Snape like a hen protecting her chicks.

"Damn it - you go back first!" Snape shouted, and quickly shot a red light at the werewolf, hitting the werewolf's momentum and knocking it over to the ground.

It crouched low and bared its teeth threateningly at Snape.

"-Teacher, don't let Peter run away!" Winster's anxious voice came over.

"Invisible striker--" While guarding against the werewolf's attack, Snape took a moment to aim a finger at the fleeing rat's waist with hatred.

Wormtail had heard the shouting behind them, and felt something was wrong, knowing that Snape had only been temporarily persuaded, but he would kill him as soon as he had the chance. He struggled with his limbs to gather strength and leaped forward, avoiding Snape's attack aimed at his upper body.

The spell struck the ground behind it, sending up a shower of dirt and rocks that hit it on the head.

Before Wormtail could feel lucky for having escaped, he felt a sharp pain in his lower body.

"Jiji!!!" It screamed miserably, and its two hind legs and tail twitched and fell to the ground, with only a bit of skin at the end still connected to it.

If it was all broken, that would be fine, Wormtail could still rely on the initial strength to throw it aside and continue to escape.

But Snape's aim was so vicious that no matter which direction Peter fled, he could not escape the fate of having half of his limbs cut off.

But before it could feel the pain in its legs, it saw Harry rushing towards it despite Snape's attempts to stop him.

He was so frightened that he didn't dare to be caught. He bit off his own broken leg, which was still not completely broken. With every breath, it hurt and dragged on the ground, bleeding. He then disappeared into the darkness.

"Harry!" Winster shouted in surprise before he could hold him back.

While Snape was fending off the werewolf, he heard a voice in shock and anger: "Potter! Come back here!" He had just kicked away the werewolf that had pounced on him when he was distracted and attacked Peter, when he saw Winston decisively hand Ron over to Hermione and run after him.

Snape was furious: "Winster White!"

The werewolf pounced again, this time it was more cunning, rushing left and right trying to bypass Snape and attack the two shivering cubs behind him.

One of them had a broken leg, and the fresh blood was titillating its nerves.

Snape had no time to spare. "Damn it!" He pointed his wand and once again repelled the werewolf that was pouncing on him.

"Back off! Let's go back!" Snape roared.

Hermione was supporting Ron, who was leaning on her for support. She said fearfully, "But Professor, Harry..."

"You two should survive first before you think about this!" Snape couldn't help but roar, "Go!" he ordered.

"Yes!" Hermione suppressed her fear and hurried away with Ron.

Snape stopped where he was and fought off the unyielding werewolf again and again, dodging the werewolf's claws in a panic.

Until Black finally seemed to come to his senses. Snape thought someone could finally protect the students behind him, but he saw that it didn't even look at him, and rushed into the Forbidden Forest, sniffing the scent of Harry and Peter in the air.

"...Black!" Although he didn't have much hope in the first place, Snape still roared angrily.

After repelling the werewolf's attempt to bypass him and attack Hermione and Ron from behind who had not yet escaped far and had just climbed halfway up the mountain to see the castle gate - Weasley's broken leg was too much of a hindrance.

Finally, the werewolf seemed to be tired of dodging Snape's dangerous spells, and was knocked over after being hit by Snape's precise Disarming Charm again when he lunged at him.

He howled unwillingly a few times, then turned around and chased after the fresh smell that had no adult wizard's protection.

Snape chased it in confusion for a few steps and saw it disappear at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. He then saw Hermione and Ron still struggling to escape, and wondered whether the werewolf would retreat for the time being, or wait for another opportunity to attack the two students behind him when he thought it was chasing Harry and Winston.

Winster and Potter had no idea how far they had entered the Forbidden Forest. If he chased them into the Forbidden Forest, he might not be able to accurately find them. In addition, in order to resist the werewolf's attack, he had to accurately interrupt the werewolf's close attack every time he made a move, maintaining the most dangerous and safest distance, and he could not use lethal magic - the werewolf with the instinct of a beast would be aware of his killing intention first and would follow him from a distance - he was already exhausted.

We can only hope that Snape will rush back to the castle to inform Dumbledore and find them in time.

As for relying on that bastard Blake?

Snape didn't want to mention him at all.

……

We must not let Wormtail get away - Winster thought anxiously, and chased after him closely, hurriedly grabbing Harry who was running in an aimless manner.

Harry was grabbed by him, thinking that he was here to stop him, and said firmly: "Don't stop me - I will chase him no matter how dangerous it is! I won't give him another chance to escape!"

"I'm not here to stop you, Harry." Winston said helplessly, and read to the ground: "Apparition - he is seriously injured and can't run far."

"The tracking spell can show traces of recent magical activities in an area." Winston explained in a low voice, then lowered his head and identified a small claw mark among a pile of golden messy traces, "...Go this way, Harry."

He looked back cautiously and told Harry to duck through the bushes. "Professor Snape is still fending off the werewolf. The werewolf is crazy but not stupid. He will abandon them after realizing he can't defeat the professor. We have to hurry."

The moon was high in the sky, and the forest was bright enough for them to see the road ahead without the need for fluorescent lights.

The golden smoke of the tracking spell clearly followed Winster's wishes and marked the direction for them. The bloodstains stained the soil and spread all the way to the depths of the forbidden forest.

"What a runner," Harry said hatefully.
