Chapter 56: The Vengeful Winster
"...I learned it from Winster," Hermione's eyes wandered, "He did this before in primary school... This is my first time using it - it works well, doesn't it?" She blinked guiltily and smoothed her hair. Then she argued confidently, "Malfoy deserves it... He even came up to me!"
Ron smiled happily: "That's right! Malfoy deserves it. Looking at his miserable look, I can laugh for a month."
Harry looked up, "Hey, Winster!"
Winster, who was lying on the stairs watching the fun, put away his wand. He stretched out his voice slowly: "You are too slow - Harry, I have already come back to the library to find you."
"There's a lot to find. You don't expect me to do it all by myself, do you?"
"Here it comes!" Harry shouted, laughing.
They walked through the auditorium and climbed the grand staircase, greeting Winster, who had been watching the excitement for a while.
"Well done, Hermione." Winster smiled and took the book she had borrowed from Hagrid.
"You cast the Enchantment Charm?" Hermione asked as they climbed the stairs, chatting.
"Oh," Winston blinked, "Crabbe and Goyle are pretty silly, aren't they?"
"But they're not that stupid. I saw them want to go forward a few times and then forget about it."
Harry was surprised and said, "So they used a Confusion Charm? They have been looking so stupid all the time..."
"I can't tell at all!" Ron muttered. "It fits the impression they give people so well that even Professor McGonagall didn't suspect it."
Winston laughed. "I just let them think they didn't see what Hermione did," they said as they climbed the stairs. "Actually, I always thought they would be the same fools if I didn't use that spell... always. Ah, here it is, found it!"
Winster led them into an abandoned, empty classroom and closed the door.
"This place is close to the library and not many people come here... We just need to make sure the door is closed." Winster said, and then took out the illustrations of Fantastic Beasts that he had temporarily copied in the library using the Copying Spell.
"I didn't check out the book," Winster explained, "so that it wouldn't be left as a copy in the library. We shouldn't do that again."
Madam Pince remembers every student who borrows a book.
Winster didn't want to be guessed about this.
Hermione spread out the Hippogriff Training Manual that Hagrid gave her. On it were the characteristics, hobbies and mates of Hippogriffs that Hagrid recorded when he was training them.
It said that Hagrid was planning to pair Night with Buckbeak.
"Oh, two hotheads," Ron commented.
Dark Night was the hippogriff that gave Winster a claw.
"My idea is to use Transfiguration to create a Buckbeak to deceive the executioner...if the appeal fails." Winster pondered.
Everyone nodded. With their support, Hagrid prayed desperately that the appeal after the verdict would help him get justice...but based on his understanding of Malfoy, Harry didn't think Hagrid could get what he wanted.
So they gathered together to save Buckbeak.
"I thought you wouldn't come to call us." Ron said, folding his hands.
Winster glanced at him, made a gesture to pull him into the water, and said bluntly: "Shut up, Weasley, let's die together. You can't stay out of Hagrid's affairs."
"But how do we turn into Buckbeak?" Harry questioned, frowning at the image spread out on the table.
They were called images, but they were actually some anatomical picture books about magical animals, which were recommended to them by Rolf.
He said that although the picture book only contained a few common anatomical diagrams of magical animals, it was enough for Winster and his team's purposes.
Hermione mused, "Although we have learned to transform objects into animals... they are still small in size... I am a little better at Transfiguration, but I can't conjure up a living Hippogriff."
Hermione concluded that with three months left until the final exams, she was still the only student in the class who could turn a teapot into a turtle. Winster could only turn the teapot into a moving turtle with a head and limbs, but he couldn't remove the lid from the turtle. When he opened the lid, he could see the wriggling internal organs inside the turtle...very embarrassing.
Winster looked depressed for a moment.
Not to mention Harry and Ron, who were still stuck on getting the turtle to move. There were still three months left, and Professor McGonagall had mercifully informed them that the exam for this semester would be about turning a teapot into a turtle.
"…More importantly, how are we going to move such a large object to the hunting lodge without their knowledge?" Hermione added. "And we can't let Hagrid know."
"Buckbeak's departure is also a problem," Harry said worriedly, "If it refuses to go with us, then everything will be in vain."
Ron's eyes were blank, and he slumped in a chair beside him and muttered, "...It sounds like we can't do it at all."
"About Buckbeak," Winster interrupted, "Don't worry about that, Harry. There's another person who promised us to help—" Winster shrugged, "Trust him. Apart from Hagrid, he is the only one who can guarantee that Buckbeak will obey when the time comes."
"Once we rescue Buckbeak, he will help us take it away, and the Ministry of Magic won't know who did it secretly."
Hermione breathed a sigh of relief, "Then we just need to find a way to conjure up a Buckbeak...if we all work together and study hard...it shouldn't be that hard, right?"
She put her hands on her hips and glanced sharply at the boys in the classroom.
Ron's eyes wandered: "Probably."
Harry looked down at his feet. "Maybe."
Winster looked at the two of them and found that Hermione's eyes were also on him, "…I'll try my best."
"Don't you want to pass the final exam? As long as you can save Buckbeak, you don't have to worry about your grades."
I'm not worried, Winster reflected on why he always took on tasks for himself.
Obviously, he only needed to wait until the end of the semester so that Harry and the others could use the time-turner to rescue Buckbeak.
But seeing Hagrid crying like that, it was true...Winster felt like he was hallucinating Snape's sneer.
So they had to set aside a lot of time to practice the transformation into living creatures.
Even Professor McGonagall was surprised at how hard Harry and Ron worked.
"I'm not saying that you're not good at studying," Professor McGonagall said, "but you two have been a little abnormal in the past few weeks... I think it's normal that Miss Granger came to ask me after class... Potter and Weasley, have you been stimulated by something? No matter when you study, it's better to study too much." She said, looking at the two of them worriedly, "Don't put too much pressure on yourself. There is still a month before the final exam."
Winster stood by and glanced at them, "Don't worry, Professor McGonagall, they just agreed to study hard with Hermione to get good grades... Professor, please help me find out why my little turtle always has a teapot lid left, I really can't figure out why."
As Winster spoke, he lifted the brown tea lid, revealing the bright red flesh underneath.
Professor McGonagall pinched the sides of the struggling turtle that Winster handed over, with an expression that was hard to describe.
"...You forgot the bone plates inside the turtle shell, Mr. White. They are the turtle's spine. And you don't need to make all the internal organs appear. You just need to make them move like a turtle. Do we have to learn how every muscle works when we make an animal?"
Professor McGonagall said as she took the teapot that was used as a teaching aid next to her and turned it into a little turtle and handed it to him, indicating that Winster could take it apart and study it.
----
That afternoon, Winster and his friends gathered in the abandoned classroom again to discuss the rescue of Buckbeak.
"I always feel like we can't do it--" Ron threw the book on the table as soon as he came in, fell on the sofa with a thud and sighed.
"It's harder to get Buckbeak's head chopped off while he's still alive than to get Hagrid to speak and argue!" Ron wailed, collapsing on the sofa as if his bones had been pulled out.
"Look, look." He slumped for a while and then sat up again, shouting to Winston and Hermione who followed behind him, "Professor McGonagall thinks something is wrong with Harry and me. But we still can't turn something into a hippogriff. But the execution will be in June. We have to get it done before then."
Ron pointed to a large piece of clay shaped like a horse that they had placed on the table, with a few feathers still on it where the shape had failed.
This was something Ron and Harry had dug up by the Black Lake at night. There was nothing in the school as big as Buckbeak.
After all, none of their Transfiguration skills could transform a small object into a larger living creature, not even Hermione.
"I've thought of a way to get such a big thing to Hagrid's place - we can use the Shrinking Charm. Hermione and I both know how to do it."
Winster responded, and sat down beside the table, fiddling with the little turtle that Professor McGonagall had given him that was trying to escape, constantly flipping its lid.
Harry sighed and poked the clay on the table, which had become clumpy after being left there for several days. He took the showerhead and poured some water on it.
A group of people sat together with sad faces trying to turn this big piece of clay into a hippogriff. Unfortunately, they could only make the eagle head made from such a big piece of clay move, as the rest of the feathers either still had the color of clay, or when they opened the head, they still felt like wet mud.
It really cannot be said to be a breakthrough.
"Honestly," Ron irritably put down the notes that recorded Buckbeak's features, and complained to Hermione who was carefully revising the Transfiguration work, "Why can't we turn them into still life and piece them together? It's not like Winston can't do it. Didn't he make a black snake head for the Slytherins at Christmas before?"
"We just have to make sure the executioner can't see it!"
Hermione was stunned, then she suddenly jumped up: "Yes! Why didn't I think of it? Can't we just use the various parts to piece together 'Buckbeak'? Winster——"
Winster fell into deep thought. "...Okay, I think so. This is a good idea. We can persuade Hagrid to let Buckbeak fall asleep before they take action. As long as we say that at least Buckbeak should not be awake to face death... It's rare that you can come up with a good idea, Ron."
He looked over with a little surprise.
Harry slapped Ron on the back, his eyes shining: "Well done, Ron! I knew you could do it!"
Ron smirked and scratched his head.
"But there are still many problems..." Hermione said slowly as she thought.
Winster pulled away the turtle that was biting his finger in anger, "...I think I can find out who the executioner is...You know, Slytherins are always well-informed." He said calmly.
(Draco, who is always being teased:?)
"I think I could go and talk to Hagrid," said Hermione.
"What about me? What should I do?" Ron asked, pointing at his nose.
Harry didn't say anything. He would not be allowed to appear outside the castle openly anyway. He could only be invisible.
"You stay with Harry," said Winston, "and keep watch for us. I'll take action when the time comes, and Hermione will persuade Hagrid to let her feed Buckbeak the sleeping potion. The two of you take Harry's Invisibility Cloak and help us watch them."
"…There are still many questions, such as Buckbeak's blood when he was beheaded…Hermione, what do you think of the siphon effect?"
"Siphon effect..." Hermione recalled what she had learned in elementary school. "Are you planning to make the blood spurt out during the execution? I think it's possible," she said affirmatively.
Ron frowned. "What kind of blood are you going to use? If the executioner is experienced enough, he will be able to tell which blood is red ink."
According to what Rolf told Winster, the blood of the Hippogriff is more similar to that of birds and lighter in color than human blood.
Then there's only chicken blood.
"Hagrid still has a lot of chickens," Winston replied. "It seems that Hagrid has purchased another batch of chickens recently. We can go to him and ask for some... I can use the name of my potion experiment. Anyway, I have asked him for a lot of strange things."
"Are you going to harm Hagrid's chickens again?"
Winster coughed loudly. "What do you mean by disaster? Hermione, why don't you go?" he protested.
"I'll go," Harry said, raising his hand. "I can't just do nothing."
In fact, as long as Harry appeared on the day of Buckbeak's execution, Dumbledore would not have expelled the little wizard with Harry.
That was his beloved savior. Winster thought seriously...anyway, before Voldemort appeared, Harry would be Dumbledore's favorite student.
Then they discussed the alternative plan, tried to piece Buckbeak together, and then separated.
Winster and Harry stayed to clean up the mess and prepared to go to Lupin's last Patronus Charm class in May. He said in the last class that Winster and Harry should pay more attention to the final exams and stop the class.
Hermione called him and took out a crystal ball from her bag. "I heard from Harry that the crystal ball you bought was lost. This is a replacement for you. Happy birthday, Winchester."
The bluebells outside the window are in full bloom... Winster suddenly recalled that it has been almost a year since he woke up in this world.
Even Winster himself doesn't know his birthday.
"Your birthday?" Harry asked in surprise.
"I didn't know either..." Winston said, "Thank you, Hermione... So my birthday is in May? I didn't know that."
"You told me that in first year," Hermione said. "How was it? Did you like it?"
Winster said: "That's great, Hermione, so I can record all the mistakes I make while performing potions for my teacher."
Winster's eyes lit up.
