HP: For a better world
Chapter 53 Accomplice
Over the next few days, Winster would occasionally come to help Hagrid and participate in Buckbeak's training.
Hagrid was naturally disappointed, but although Mr. Newt was not present in person, he still came up with a training plan based on his grandson Rolf's observations of Buckbeak.
In the letter, he asked Hagrid to tell Headmaster Dumbledore that he was sorry for not being there, and explained that he was asked by the American Ministry of Magic to find a Nundul panther that appeared in a Muggle city, and he couldn't get away. He also assured Hagrid that he would be back on the day Buckbeak appeared in court.
Hagrid knew how terrifying the Nundu leopard was, and he couldn't blame Newt for breaking his promise. In addition, he had to train Buckbeak with Rolf, who helped him, after receiving a sincere manuscript from a magizoologist. Winster would go over to spend some time with Buckbeak.
Hagrid also showed the letter to Winster. Although he was disappointed that Mr. Newt could not come to Hogwarts, Winster quickly established a good relationship with Rolf.
Unlike Rolf's always shy face, the real Rolf is a Hufflepuff with plenty of curiosity and thirst for knowledge - no wonder he can chat with Luna so enthusiastically - thought Winster as he worked with Hagrid to hide the hibernating Aragog.
There were several times when Aragog, who was half asleep, was almost caught by Rolf and locked in his suitcase.
After several contacts, Winster knew that there was a compartment-sized space in Rolf's suitcase. It was the result of his three years of hard work. According to him, his grandfather Newt also had a zoo-sized magical animal colony. There lived some magical animals that were not suitable for others to take care of.
"Although Dad didn't become a Magizoologist, it's not the first time or second time that he has taken care of the animals at home. He will be fine - it's just that I have to stay away from Patch again."
Patch is a Niffler who grew up with Rolf.
"My grandfather is keen on adopting homeless wild magical animals. Although he is retired... every time I try to sneak in, I can always see new magical animals inside. They must have been introduced to me when I was in school." Rolf said that when he was away from work, he was like a child who didn't get any candy, and he couldn't forget the zoo that Mr. Newt carried with him.
Winster couldn't say he wasn't envious - a whole library of renewable potion ingredients.
However, from what he had told her, Luna had received a Niffler kit as a gift.
"It's Patch's baby. The Nifflers can have too many babies in one litter. Luna told me that she likes those animals very much... so I took one and sent it to her home... The school doesn't allow magical animals to be raised." Rolf said dejectedly, calling Buckbeak to obey orders, and then rewarded him.
Then ask Winster to approach slowly to see if Buckbeak would show an attacking attitude in front of acquaintances.
Although this eroded Buckbeak's nature, the constant temptation made Buckbeak's reaction slower and slower until he believed that no one would hurt him.
Everything can be compromised before survival.
Watching Rolf training Buckbeak seriously, Winster had a secret thought in his heart - if his plan succeeds, then there is a great chance that Black will be able to escape the crime and he won't have to flee. Then after Harry and Hermione rescue Buckbeak, they can't let it fly away. If it flies around, it might just run into people from the Ministry of Magic... Winster has to consider Buckbeak's final destination, and will Rolf be willing to adopt a hippogriff?
It probably goes without saying that he has the means to hide Buckbeak, but is Rolf willing to break the law and help Buckbeak escape death?
Winster decided to test him.
"So you like to keep magical creatures?" Winston asked as they came out of the Quidditch field. Because Ravenclaw was behind, the game was between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
Harry retrieved his Firebolt and raced across the field.
If Winston were to say that this match was unnecessary, the broom of Ravenclaw Seeker Cho Chang was just a comet. And what about Harry?
——A state-of-the-art Firebolt.
No amount of strength can make up for such a speed gap. If Wood hadn't been unwilling to drag Harry and asked him to wait until Gryffindor scored a few more points before the game ended, I'm afraid this game would have become Harry's Firebolt show.
After watching the game, Rolf walked towards Hagrid's hunting lodge with Winster regretfully.
He had just finished exclaiming about the performance of the Firebolt, and everyone saw how Harry lifted the Firebolt with ease. If the Firebolt was not so expensive, Winster thought, there would definitely be Quidditch enthusiasts who would be attracted to it.
Hearing Winster's question, he pressed the old gray-yellow scarf around his neck. He bent his eyes, and the cold winter wind made his face slightly red.
"Of course I like magical creatures, they are like my family." Rolf said softly, freckles dotted his face, making his features, which already resembled Newt, even more similar. The young Newt in the chocolate frog portrait seemed to overlap with his face.
"Who would hate the family that grew up with them? I will definitely become a great Magizoologist," Rolf said, his love and closeness to magical animals flowing out of his words, "I firmly believe it."
He wanted to do better than his grandfather Newt. "I will save more endangered wild magical animals like my grandfather." He said, and then briefly introduced Newt's efforts over the years to Winston. "He has been trying to obtain a magical animal protection area from various magical governments."
"Of course there are some now, but very few." Rolf sighed, "You can think that their range is not large enough to accommodate all the animals."
...and, because of the Statute of Secrecy and the continuous expansion of Muggle life, the Ministry of Magic always had to reject his proposals. Even though he had worked hard for decades to make everyone more understanding and accepting of magical animals, there would always be wizards like the Dangerous Creatures Committee who hated them. "
Rolf stroked the old Hufflepuff scarf around his neck, a scarf full of precious memories that his grandfather had given him when he heard he was in Hufflepuff - the scarf that Newt had worn when he was still in Hogwarts.
"Those high-risk magical animals living in suitcases may never be able to return to the wild. Ministries of Magic in various countries are worried about their appearance and the violation of the Statute of Secrecy, and they are also worried about the harm they may cause."
And there are poachers.
Rolf sighed and didn't say the cruel reality.
"If there was a land entirely for magical creatures... separating wizards and dangerous magical creatures, maybe there wouldn't be so many problems," said Winster.
"I think so too," Rolf said firmly, "I will keep working hard like my grandfather did. There will always be a Ministry of Magic willing to accept our request."
Winster said thoughtfully, "But as long as there are wizards who need things from magical creatures, the problem will always exist."
"It would be great if potion recipes only used renewable materials." Winster stroked Buckbeak's wings and watched it wolf down the meat in the bucket.
"If, I mean if." Winster said, they were carrying a bucket full of meat and feeding Buckbeak, "Buckbeak was sentenced to death...what should we do?"
They knew very well that the Dangerous Creatures Committee would most likely not let Buckbeak go.
"...I can only hope that it runs away. Escape into the Forbidden Forest and never be seen again." Rolf said without hesitation, looking up at the Forbidden Forest shrouded in night.
Buckbeak stood aside, eating madly with his head buried.
Winster was silent for a while, and suddenly said, "Would you be willing to adopt a hippogriff? At some possible point in time." He said vaguely.
Rolf looked at this mature Slytherin student with surprise and asked, "--what do you want to do?"
"That's, that's illegal!" he advised, struggling with his thoughts. He certainly didn't want Buckbeak to be executed - he didn't want any innocent magical creature to die.
"I was just preparing for failure - I wasn't really planning on doing anything," said Winston. "Hagrid wanted to let Buckbeak go - but he didn't dare."
Rolf looked at him suspiciously.
"The trial results haven't come out yet!" Winster rolled his eyes. "Maybe we can win." Winster said calmly, words that even Hagrid didn't believe.
He opened his mouth and said, "But by that time, Buckbeak will not be suitable to stay in school." Winster spread his hands and said, "I'm just asking. The final decision will be made by Hagrid - of course, it may not be Buckbeak anymore. Maybe Hagrid suddenly doesn't want to keep him anymore?" Winster said with a smile.
Rolf breathed a sigh of relief. "Of course." He quickly agreed, "My suitcase can easily accommodate Buckbeak." Then he hesitated for a moment and said softly, "... Before that, I will do everything I can. - We will not give up."
……
……
After they parted, Winston returned to the castle, congratulated Harry on his victory, and went back to his bedroom to sleep.
But just a few hours after falling asleep, I was woken up and gathered in the common room.
Everyone was wailing.
Someone bravely asked loudly to Snape who came with a gloomy face and woke them up one by one to count the number of people.
"Professor! What happened?"
"It's none of your business." After Snape counted the number of people, his face was still gloomy as if water could drip out of it, but it was much better than before.
He quickly ordered, "You will stay here tonight. The prefect will watch the door to maintain discipline. No one is allowed to go out at will. Do you understand?"
"Understood, Dean." The prefects answered in unison.
He hurried away again.
The next morning, the news that Gryffindor had been broken into the common room spread everywhere.
"No one is safer than Slytherin, right?" a Slytherin said after hearing the news. "Slytherin hasn't been broken into for hundreds of years," he said smugly.
Then he laughed at Neville for losing the password.
By the time breakfast arrived, news of the events of the previous night had spread throughout the school, not to mention the fact that Ron Weasley was there, loudly boasting about how he had escaped death at the hands of Black.
The Knight Cadogan, whom Hermione hated, was fired, and the Fat Lady returned to her post. She also hired a bunch of troll bodyguards to protect her safety.
——To be honest, this is too abstract. The giant bodyguards make people doubt whether they can understand the requirements of their employers.
The Slytherins who had run to take a look at Gryffindor's door early in the morning were laughing so hard that the dining table was filled with their laughter.
The Gryffindors were whispering and pointing at Neville, who was alone with his head down.
Neville might not have a good time in school these days, maybe Hermione can pull him into the club - Winster thought. Although Neville did join the club as Winster thought.
But things quickly took a turn for the worse.
A few days later, bad news came one after another. Hermione cried and found Winster who had just come out of the club classroom after making potion.
"Hagrid lost the case," she cried.
"The two Mr. Scamanders stood in front of the committee and argued for Hagrid," Hermione couldn't stop her tears, which flowed like water, and she almost screamed, "but they insisted that they were not Buckbeak's owners and had no right to defend it, and forced Hagrid to convince them!"
"But how could Hagrid do that? They kept interrupting him and not letting him finish his words, and Hagrid was so nervous that he couldn't say a word." Hermione shouted in despair, "And then Malfoy stood up and said a few words, and they sentenced him to death!"
"I'm sorry to hear the news... Hermione, don't cry." Winster held her shoulders and soothed Hermione's emotions in a calm voice. "I'll find a way," he said.
The residual smell of herbs from Winston came into Hermione's nose.
She sobered up a little and asked him, "What are you going to do?"
"One try," said Winster.
"You want to release Buckbeak? Are you crazy?" Hermione said, sniffling now and then. "It's against the law!"
"Do you want to get yourself sent to Azkaban?"
"Don't worry about it, Hermione," said Winston. "The fewer people who know about it, the better."
Hermione bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes, "—No."
She said, "Add me."
Winster pondered for a while, "Then help me find an anatomical diagram of the Hippogriff, preferably one with a detailed structural explanation."
"Also, we have to keep this a secret from Hagrid," he said, "so that if we fail, Hagrid won't be taken to Azkaban."
Hermione nodded.
So Winster contacted Rolf.
After Blake broke into the school for the second time, outsiders in the school were cleared out again, and Rolf was expelled from the school and could no longer stay in the school for a long time.
But fortunately, in order to help Buckbeak, Rolf did not go far away. He rented a room in Hogsmeade and came back to see Buckbeak from time to time.
When Winster arrived, he heard Rolf stroking Buckbeak's body and whispering to it.
People who like animals all have this problem, always thinking that they can understand every word you say.
——But in the wizarding world, this is basically the truth.
“…I’m sorry,” he said. “I couldn’t save you.”
From the next hut came the sound of Hagrid blowing his nose loudly.
In order to make Buckbeak spend the rest of his time happily, Hagrid spent a lot of money to buy ferrets which were rarely sold in this season.
Buckbeak was happily dispatching them. Maybe he understood, but didn't care. Or maybe he didn't, but just couldn't speak.
——It rubbed his hand with its beak.
"..." Rolf was speechless, and his hand stroking Buckbeak's wings gradually tightened.
As long as there are political party attacks, Hagrid will not stop. Malfoy is just testing an attitude.
What attitude?
——Fudge's attitude. If justice is required, Malfoy should not be standing in court today, and there should be no trial from the beginning.
"Rolf." Winster called.
He turned around and forced a smile, "What's wrong, Winster, what do you want from me?"
Now he finally behaved like an adult. Adults always avoid directly exposing their emotions and hide them behind masks, fearing that children will be affected by these bad emotions.
"Do you remember what I said?" Winster looked at Rolf's expression while choosing what he wanted to say.
"..." Rolf opened his mouth, his heart beating violently, as he had never thought of breaking the law. But in the end, his love for magical animals overcame him, "What do you want me to do?"
"Find a way to get Buckbeak to obey orders and stay in the Forbidden Forest. You will pick him up when the time comes."
Winster said calmly, "Give me the anatomy of the Hippogriff, the blood concentration and the bone structure."
He raised his head and looked directly at Rolf.
"——I want to deceive their eyes."
