HP: For a better world
Chapter 49 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day
The Christmas dinner does not start in the evening, probably because other professors have their own activities in the evening. The Christmas banquet at Hogwarts is held at noon.
The Slytherin junior came over early before lunch to wait for Winster, and brought a little tail with him, who was also a junior who stayed behind.
They walked towards the auditorium together.
Winster walked in front and pushed open the door of the auditorium.
The long tables of the colleges were pushed to the sides, leaving only a square table in the middle that could accommodate more than a dozen people. Dumbledore sat at one end and watched Snape set off a firework.
Snape took the firecracker reluctantly and glanced over when he heard the noise in the hall.
"Everyone is not here yet, Dumbledore," he said immediately, stuffing the fireworks to Professor McGonagall who was sitting opposite him, then stood up to greet Winston.
They said they stood up to welcome it, but in fact they just couldn't wait to escape from being "decorated" by fireworks.
He pressed Winster's shoulder and intentionally or unintentionally blocked the two younger students behind him.
"Look, Dumbledore, this is the student you recommended for me." Winster heard Snape boasting about him in a strange tone he had never heard before, and there was even a hint of complacency in it.
Winster's mind went blank for a moment. Dumbledore? Student?
"You have accepted Mr. White as your apprentice?" Professor McGonagall asked in surprise.
"Oh, Severus, it looks like you are ready to announce this happy news?" Dumbledore said, stroking his beard with a smile.
"There is a plan." Snape pushed Winster to the edge of the table and glanced at the two students who were following Snape timidly. They were so scared that they quickly sat on the other side of the table away from them.
Winster was forced to sit down stiffly. On his right was a sixth-year Slytherin student. Harry and his friends had not arrived yet. The only people at the table were the professors and the Slytherin students.
Filch was there, too, wearing an old tuxedo jacket, sitting at the corner of the table with a gloomy face, trying to force a smile on his face.
Professors Flitwick and Sprout were both looking at them with smiles on their faces.
Looking at this familiar and warm scene, Winston gradually relaxed. He glanced at the two younger Slytherins and gave them a look, but they both lowered their heads and pretended they didn't exist.
"No wonder I always see Winston running to your office to ask for advice this semester." Professor Flitwick said to Snape with a smile while sitting on a high stool.
"He has some understanding," Snape admitted in a disguised manner, "but only that much." He sat back in his original seat while belittling.
"It's so rare to see you praise a student, Severus." Professor McGonagall couldn't help but say jokingly.
"Do you want me to say anything nice to Potter and the others? Minerva. I recommend that you turn Mr. Potter into a clock. Maybe this will teach him a lesson and stop him from being late for class." Snape complained. "Then maybe I can praise..." He showed a look of disgust and changed his words, "Praise Miss Granger for her fruitful efforts."
The professors looked at him in amusement.
It was already twelve o'clock. It was time for dinner. But Harry and his friends hadn't arrived yet.
Dumbledore chuckled and tried to smooth things over: "Perhaps they received a gift that was too surprising - opening a gift is always a pleasure. Just like I received a surprising message today." He winked at Winston.
Winster lowered his head cautiously, looking restrained.
Snape looked at Winster suspiciously, and received a disdainful answer from Winster's innocent and blank eyes.
"It's just a broom, Hermione. Can you stop making such a fuss about it..." Ron's voice came down the grand staircase.
"Making a fuss out of nothing? You know how dangerous things of unknown origin are—" Winster heard Hermione arguing with Ron in a low voice behind him. Harry followed helplessly, and the noise disappeared as soon as they arrived in the hall.
Seeing so many professors sitting here, he quickly shut up and slipped to the remaining empty seats.
Dumbledore announced with a smile, "Well, now we're all here, Merry Christmas everyone, we can start preparing for dinner! I can't wait," he said happily.
Professor McGonagall set off the firework, and with a bang, the firework exploded and spit out a series of ribbons, and then a vampire with braces and a peaked collar cloak appeared and was put on Professor McGonagall.
A vampire countess has just emerged.
"Oh," said Dumbledore, somewhat surprised, "we seem to be setting off fireworks for Halloween. Minerva, would you like to have the brace removed, or perhaps I could remove it for you?"
This firework is a time-limited, transformable firework.
Professor McGonagall touched her teeth thoughtfully, "I feel OK, Albus, a bit like a cat's canine tooth." She seriously changed her head into a cat's head, took a grilled fish and said, "Does it look better now?"
She looks like a cat earl now
A tabby cat dressed in human clothes seriously held a fish and spoke to him alone.
Everyone couldn't help laughing. The students looked like they were having a hard time holding back their laughter.
"Very creative, Minerva," Dumbledore smiled, raising a glass of eggnog.
"Eat!" he said to everyone at the table.
The rats from the other day seemed to have had no impact on today's banquet. The table was filled with delicious roasted lamb chops, sweet and soft honey pumpkin pie, rose-scented jelly made from animal cartilage, and a few red-boiled lobsters on the side.
The thick soup made of potatoes, carrots and beef cubes is also added with a little parsley. The soup is rich and makes people's appetites whet. Roasted potatoes and sausages are of course indispensable, but they are not the protagonists today——
The belly of the cod was carefully carved out on seven plates, and the fish meat melted in the mouth using a secret recipe made with lemon juice and some spices. The missing corner was occupied by Professor McGonagall, and the remaining six plates of grilled fish were guarding the center of the table, with a roast turkey stuffed with onions and sage and a fat body.
Next to each person were a few soft-cooked fruits that had been cut into pieces in advance and were waiting for people to eat them quickly.
Someone's stomach growled, and everyone happily scrambled for food on the table. The adults guzzled eggnog, and the children greedily drank their own cups of pumpkin juice and scooped up stew and jelly.
There were some light snow floating in the sky above the auditorium, adding a touch of elegance to the warm interior.
All Winster wanted was some more sweet cod that melted in his mouth... boneless, finely seasoned, with a hint of lemon juice, fatty but not greasy. After eating British food for so long, it tasted a bit like the best pork tenderloin... and the delicate muscle texture of fish was both beautiful and delicious.
Hermione also grabbed a piece of cod and savored it carefully. The professors cut the pie and dismembered the roast turkey with a smile, drank eggnog while chatting and laughing, and enjoyed the Christmas dinner leisurely.
She must have followed the scent - Professor Trelawney, wearing a bright green dress with small metal discs, glided towards the dining table like an oversized glowing dragonfly.
Dumbledore's eyes flashed with surprise, and he stood up: "It is a pleasure to see you in the Great Hall today, Sybil."
"Headmaster, I have been looking into the crystal ball," Professor Trelawney said in a vague tone that is unique to a charlatan. "To my surprise, I saw myself abandoning my lunch alone and coming to your dinner. How could I resist the urging of fate? Of course, I sincerely ask you to forgive my lateness..."
Winster saw Professor McGonagall curl her lips and transform the cat and withdraw it.
"Of course. Of course," said Dumbledore, his eyes shining. "Let me get you a chair -"
As Dumbledore spoke, he pulled a chair in the air with his wand. The chair spun in the air for a few seconds before making a sound and landing next to Professor Snape, opposite Professor McGonagall.
Trelawney looked around and then sat down with a look of satisfaction.
"Do you want some tripe, Sibyl?" Professor McGonagall, now dressed normally, said as she took the ladle of the stew and scooped herself some soup.
Trelawney glanced at the stew coldly, "Thank you, no thanks. I think I have to follow the instructions of fate. These days are not suitable for tasting tripe. I suggest you don't eat it either, dear Minerva, if you don't want to taste the bitter fruit of going against fate."
Professor McGonagall paused for a moment, then continued to scoop up the tripe from the stew, even adding an extra spoonful, which overflowed from her bowl.
"Oh thank you, I'll pay attention to that." She replied politely.
Everyone continued to eat. The aroma of food continued to waft in the air, and the house-elves kept replenishing the eggnog after they had finished drinking it.
Professor Trelawney didn't move her fork or spoon in a hurry. She closed her eyes for a while, then opened them and looked at the people at the table and asked, "Where is our dear Professor Lupin?"
Winster saw Snape's fleeting look of disgust.
He gently placed the soup spoon on the plate, and the porcelain plate and silver spoon collided with a crisp knocking sound, and then he spoke slowly: "I'm afraid that 'your dear' Professor Lupin is in his beloved office to take care of his old furry illness, and you won't see him at the Christmas party today."
"Poor Professor Lupin." Dumbledore said slowly, interrupting Snape's sneering speech.
"But you must have known that, didn't you, Sibyl?" Professor McGonagall raised her eyebrows. "Fate should have told you everything."
Wow--
Winster and Harry watched the show silently, eating their meals while listening to the gossip with great interest.
"Of course I know." Professor Trelawney retorted mercilessly. "It's just that I usually don't show off that I have a third eye that most people will never have in their lifetime, so that those mediocre people won't be anxious because of it."
Hermione raised an eyebrow in disbelief and stuffed a bite of honey pumpkin pie into her mouth.
"That explains a lot," Professor McGonagall said sarcastically.
"If you insist on my telling you what's going to happen... Minerva, I can tell you that I have seen our poor -
(Snape snorted)
"--Professor Lupin will not stay with us much longer. When I wanted to show him the crystal ball showing the future, he always avoided it--obviously he himself knows that time is running out..."
Professor McGonagall couldn't hold back and showed a clear expression of ridicule.
She said, "Oh, yes, it's so obvious." Professor McGonagall said sarcastically, "I didn't even notice it."
Trelawney turned away unhappily: "How can a mediocre person know all this? The third eye is not a gift that anyone can have if they want it..." She muttered, but she didn't say it out loud because she was afraid of Professor McGonagall's power to approve money. But it was no different from saying it out loud. At least Hermione and Professor McGonagall heard it.
"Oh," Dumbledore sighed with emotion, his voice slightly raised, but also ended the increasingly tense conversation between Professor McGonagall and Professor Trelawney: "Severus, did you provide poor Professor Lupin with some of the medicine he needed this month?"
