Chapter 46 No, Today is Not Christmas
"Look, is that Winster?" There was a whisper around.
"I think I saw him yesterday. Did he sneak out to play?"
"Did you see it too?"
"Please Lavender... there are already many people who see the opportunity, don't think you are the only one..."
Hermione looked back and heard her two roommates playing around with their hands covering their mouths and eyes curved with laughter.
The aroma of food wafted through the auditorium.
Hermione followed the direction of their laughter and saw Winston, who was sneezing while holding her cat, sitting down in the Slytherin seat with a sleepy look on his face.
His friend Loar came over and whispered something to him. There were boxes of different sizes beside them, and everyone was looking forward to going home happily.
"There's a roasted whole chicken for breakfast today!" Ron exclaimed with joy, and couldn't wait to reach out and grab a chicken leg that was roasted to a golden brown, fragrant and greasy texture.
"I think this is a bit too greasy for breakfast." Hermione said unhappily as she shoveled the only grease-free mashed potatoes for breakfast today into her bowl.
The long table was filled with food, including cut meat pies, golden roasted chickens, soft, fragrant and salty mashed potatoes and orange pumpkin juice. It was just different from the usual bacon toast for breakfast.
Harry helped himself to some mashed potatoes and tasted it. "Is it French mashed potatoes today? It looks like it's steamed."
Ron was surprised and tore off a large piece of the chicken leg. He said vaguely, "Really? I think it's okay...Hogwarts' roast chicken is really a specialty." He took another big bite with a happy face, his mouth full of oil. He picked up the pumpkin juice next to it and took a sip.
His expression changed instantly.
"Shit!" Ron couldn't swallow or spit out the pumpkin juice and chicken in his mouth. "What's this taste!"
Harry handed over a trash tray and reminded, "Ron, here."
Ron immediately spat the entire mass out into Harry's hand.
He looked rescued: "Merlin's fish and chips, this is a disaster... Thank you Harry."
The vomit mixed with a pumpkin juice-colored mass of unchewed chicken rested on the plate.
Harry pushed back the plate of Ron's vomit with a look of disgust.
Hermione silently moved a little further away from them both.
Ron didn't care, and raised the cup of pumpkin juice in his hand with grief and indignation: "What happened? Is the world going to be destroyed? If pumpkin juice loses even its last bit of advantage, what's the point of its existence? - 'Replenish vegetables! Ron!' " He pinched his throat to imitate the sound of Molly forcing him to finish the pumpkin juice every time. "Forget it, I don't want to drink this stuff with a mouthful of the sticky taste of pumpkin without sugar." He slammed the pumpkin juice on the table and pushed it away, indicating with his actions that he would never touch it again today.
The students next to them also drank some pumpkin juice and started vomiting one after another.
"Who on earth came up with this?" Ron said angrily, "There's no sugar in pumpkin juice. What's the difference between this and eating raw pumpkin?"
Harry took a sip and showed an expression of disbelief: "...Help." He quickly found a plate and spit out all the pumpkin juice he had just drunk.
Now even Harry didn't want to look at today's pumpkin juice again.
"No sugar?" Hermione asked in surprise, "...No way, let me try it." She took her glass of pumpkin juice and took a sip.
"How is it?" Ron asked eagerly.
Hermione paused suspiciously, and she swallowed the original pumpkin juice in her mouth with difficulty, "... okay... probably."
"It would be great for losing weight," she said unconscionably, taking another big mouthful of mashed potatoes to cover up the taste of pumpkin juice.
"Ignore the fact that there's no sugar in it, it won't taste any different." She took a few more sips, as if she'd gotten used to the novel taste. She no longer showed any patience and scooped out some with the steamed mashed potatoes and swallowed it in big gulps.
Ron looked at the devil.
"Ding!"
A clear sound rang throughout the hall. Dumbledore came in at some point and sat in the teacher's seat, tapping the edge of the plate with a silver spoon, indicating that he had something to say.
The auditorium fell silent.
"I noticed that many of you have already noticed," said Dumbledore, his blue eyes blinking behind his half-moon glasses. "Yes, the kitchen encountered some problems today, so we delayed breakfast and changed the menu. Of course, students who stay in school don't have to worry. The kitchen will deal with this emergency soon, and it will not delay us from enjoying the delicious Christmas dinner tomorrow or the day after tomorrow-"
He winked playfully, picked up a glass of pumpkin juice, took a sip in front of everyone, and frowned. "--Damn, today's pumpkin juice lacks some soul."
……
"Winster? Why did you get up so early today?" Luo came over, his curly hair shiny and he looked excited about the holiday. "When I came to look for you, you had already left."
"There's something wrong with Professor Snape's potion ingredients... He woke me up early in the morning." Winster couldn't help complaining when he talked about this, "It's five or six o'clock, and the sun has just come out!... To be honest, I feel so sleepy that I can fall asleep on the table in the next second."
Loial said amusedly, "I can't tell. You look normal except for yawning."
Winster sneezed again.
"Well, maybe I have a cold." Loial shrugged. He glanced at Dumbledore who was speaking. "So it was mice? Were the breakfast delayed because of mice in the kitchen?"
"I guess so," said Winston. "The house-elves' tea towels all had marks from mice gnawing on them, but for some reason none of them woke up."
Jenny: "Really? Oh no..." She looked at the food in front of her in confusion.
Mike was holding a chicken leg in each hand and eating heartily. Carl handed him a glass of pumpkin juice for fear that he would choke: "Why bother about those things? It's enough if the food in front of you is delicious... Thank you, Carl, this is what I wanted." Mike said happily, with oil on his lips.
Colum was nibbling his mashed potatoes.
Luo Ou retracted his gaze and said, "Do we still need to look for Weasley's rat?"
"I think not," said Winster, looking sadly at Crookshanks who was lying comfortably on the ground combing his hair and claws. "With so many rats, I'm afraid it has hidden in some unknown corner. There are probably hundreds of rats in the castle now." Winster thought with lingering fear of the rats piled up like a small hill on the floor of Snape's office.
Although I often have to deal with rat livers when making potions, to be honest, no matter what it is, it's scary when there are too many of them.
Not to mention that Crookshanks didn't find Peter Wormtail in the storeroom, and he didn't even see a single bald-haired mouse - there were only greasy fat mice, lying in the storeroom with their bellies full of food.
Luo Ou breathed a sigh of relief. "Then I have good news for you—"
Winster dug into his mashed potatoes and looked back in confusion.
"I found a junior Slytherin who's willing to join us... but he has to stay this Christmas." Loial smiled proudly and pointed to Winston.
Winster looked in the direction Loial pointed and saw a junior Slytherin looking towards them uneasily. When he saw them looking at him, he forced a smile awkwardly.
"Something happened at home. Maybe he offended a pure-blood... I think he has been avoiding people for several weeks." Luo said, "Before Christmas, he came to ask us for help, but we have already decided to go home and spend Christmas with our families. Mike also promised Carl to go with him this year, so..."
"I see." Winster said, "Do you know who he offended?"
"One of Marcus's lackeys," Loial replied quickly. "I think he'll be staying over for Christmas, too. That's why he's so scared."
"But don't worry," Luo added, "He was a member of the Purple Rooster back then, so he won't mess with you. The juniors also assured me that he would usually hide in the club activity room and only show his head during mealtimes, so you can just be there when the time comes."
The Purple Roosters are the seniors headed by Marcus who were splashed with the modified swelling potion by White.
"As long as you are sure he really needs help," Winston replied, "and not succumbing to the power of the pure-bloods like he did last year."
Luo Ou answered seriously: "I will not let what happened in the second grade happen again."
Jenny said, "Don't worry too much, Winster, we will take care of him together. You are busy enough this year, and you can leave the rest to us."
"—and enjoy yourselves! Merry Christmas, children!" said Dumbledore.
------
After breakfast, Winston sent them away one by one. Hermione didn't plan to go home, so there was no need to send her away. She said they would go find Hagrid later, so they could just go find them directly.
"See you in seven days, Winster!" Luo waved at him while dragging his suitcase.
"Merry Christmas, the gifts will be delivered to your dormitory on Christmas morning." Jenny was wrapped in a scarf, and Mike helped her carry part of her luggage.
"That's right! Merry Christmas, Winster. It's snowing. Let's go home!" Mike smiled with his white teeth and put his arm around Carl's shoulder. Colen's mother picked him up directly in Hogsmeade.
Winster shook his head, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, "Then I'll go back first. Merry Christmas." He stopped under the flying pig statue at the castle gate, wished them well and said goodbye, and watched them go farther and farther away in the wind and snow until they were soon out of sight.
Christmas is the New Year in the UK, a time for families to gather together. Carl wanted to introduce Mike to his family as his most important friend. Luo had thought about inviting Winster, but he refused.
Luo's family dinner...what does it have to do with him?
Snape walked by, "What are you doing here, White."
He stopped and asked with a frown.
"For a friend." Winster replied.
After hearing this answer, he started walking out of the school again.
Winster followed curiously, "Teacher, it's snowing, where are you going?"
Snape glanced at him. "I don't think I need to tell you where I am, Mr. White."
Winster followed him relentlessly.
After a while, Snape looked back with a dark face and said, "Following your professor won't extend your vacation for a few more days, White, why don't you go back and check on the potion you brewed?"
Winster: "I just finished an experiment. I don't have any new ideas."
Winster said slowly while holding the cat.
After a while, he stopped again in anger.
"What about your cloak? Winster White," he called Winster's name threateningly, "it seems that you don't like that crow feather cloak very much. But I declare in advance that I will not exchange a gift for you."
"I got up too early," Winston couldn't help but smile, "Professor, I haven't had time to go back and change."
Snape stopped talking. He took a few more steps forward and was about to reach Hogsmeade.
After leaving Hogwarts, he would Apparate to Diagon Alley to contact the owner of the potion shop to urgently purchase those basic medicinal materials.
"The classroom is missing too many materials. It will be too late for the school board to purchase them on its own. Has your Gryffindor curiosity been satisfied, Winston White?" He said angrily, "I hope I don't have to keep reminding you of your identity."
Before Winster could even ask a question, he continued, "You are a potion apprentice. You should always pay attention to the use of potions instead of wasting your skills and running around chasing after your professor in the snow and wind, ignoring your cold."
He roughly pushed Winston back. "If I must test your cold potion making today, White, I will suspect that your brain has been burned silly by the cold. Then I will happily suggest that you go to Dumbledore tonight and tell him that you want to be transferred to another hospital to be in love with Potter."
"I know, I know, Ah Qiu." He couldn't help but sneeze, and ran away with Crookshanks in his arms with a very happy smile.
"Merry Christmas, teacher!"
Snape looked at the dazzling curve of Winster's mouth and couldn't help thinking,
... Christmas is tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Has the cold already fried White's brain? ... I hope he doesn't fry the rare brains of this class of students.
