HP: For a better world
Chapter 20 Blake Arrives
The students gathered in the hall they had just left in a daze. Dumbledore was standing in the middle of the hall waiting for them. The Gryffindor students seemed to arrive faster than the students from other colleges and gathered in the hall early to whisper.
what happened?
Winster followed the crowd back in a daze. Luo, Jenny and the others also surrounded him and walked back together. Mike kept asking what happened.
But no one knew that the Slytherin prefect went to other places with a stern face to notify everyone. No one led them, and no one knew what was going on.
Snape wasn't here either. The only people in the hall were Headmaster Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick.
It was not until Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick closed all the doors of the Great Hall that Dumbledore announced a full search of the castle.
Winster just remembered.
——Blake broke into the school.
Dumbledore waved his wand and moved the long table to the side of the hall to make room. Hundreds of purple sleeping bags then appeared on the open space, as if they had always been there.
Dumbledore: "Sleep well."
Then he closed the door, leaving the hall to the Head Boy and the Prefects.
The hall immediately began to buzz with discussion, and the news also spread from Gryffindor.
The portrait of the Fat Lady guarding the door of the Gryffindor common room was torn to pieces, and Peeves said that it was Sirius Black who broke in.
"Is Peeves a liar?" Mike came closer, still holding his sleeping bag in his hand, and asked.
Peeves is a famous mischievous spirit in Hogwarts. He is not afraid of anyone and does not bully anyone. Mike thinks it is very likely that Peeves played a big trick today.
Loial turned his head and looked at him and said, "...Peeves can't fool Headmaster Dumbledore."
"——He doesn't dare either." Jenny added.
"What's going on?" Carl couldn't help but ask. Colen next to him silently rolled up his sleeping bag and buried his head in it.
They all turned their heads again and looked at Winster eagerly.
Winster was lost in thought when Jenny poked him.
"Me?" Winster came back to his senses, "I have been with you since the dinner started."
The implication is that he knew everything that happened before the dinner.
It happened during the dinner when no one was around.
Winster dropped his eyes, thinking of Crookshanks' relationship with Black.
——He remembered that Crookshanks had stolen Neville's mnemonic and given it to Black, allowing him to break into Harry and Ron's dormitory to catch Peter, the worm tail.
Winster glanced towards Gryffindor and saw Crookshanks was there.
But it seemed that Wormtail was not there, Crookshanks did not pounce on Ron, and Ron and Hermione did not quarrel.
The three of them were talking in low voices.
Winster said: "Don't worry too much. The professors are still patrolling. If Black wants to look for someone, he should go look for Harry Potter first - Coren? What happened to him?" He noticed that Coren had not said anything and asked the person next to him.
Colen was huddled in his sleeping bag, shivering.
Mike: "It seems he read a horror novel today to suit the occasion."
As he said this, Mike elbowed him, trying to call Colen out.
The curled up sleeping bag suddenly broke free, and Colen jumped out with his eyes closed, screaming "Ah ...
"——Quiet!" Percy rushed over and yelled, his whole body tense as if something had happened: "What happened!"
Mike and Carl had already rushed over to cover up Colen's screams. Upon hearing this, they quickly said, "No, no, no, it's nothing. Colen just had a nightmare."
"Yes, yes, nightmare." Carl nodded vigorously in agreement.
Colen's eyes widened, and he was unable to utter a word.
Winster didn't even bother to look at them. He faked a few coughs and huddled back into his sleeping bag.
The professor who was on duty every hour came over and glared at him.
——It's Snape.
It was impossible to see the expression on Snape's face in the dark, but from his tone one could tell that his good mood during the day was gone.
"Shut up and go to sleep." He said in a deep voice, and the Slytherin students who were originally talking in whispers suddenly became quiet.
There was a Slytherin who was a little late and hadn't stopped talking yet. Snape glanced at him and the student was instantly silent.
The whole scene seemed to be muted in an instant, with only the clattering sound of the patrolling prefects' footsteps as they walked across the stone floor.
Snape was obviously in no mood to argue here. After suppressing the restless students, he flicked his robe and went to meet Dumbledore, who had returned to the hall after investigating the situation.
……
"Well, Severus?" Winster heard Dumbledore ask.
"… We searched the entire fourth floor, but he wasn't there. Filch also checked the dungeons, but there was no one there either."
"What about the Astronomy Tower? What about the Owlery and Professor Trelawney's rooms?"
"We've searched them all, including every professor's office," said Snape.
"Very well, Severus. I expected that he would not dare to stay in the castle either."
Snape's voice was very low, as if he didn't want anyone to hear. Percy followed behind them not too far away, with his hands lowered respectfully, only occasionally glaring at the students on both sides who had not fallen asleep yet.
The Weasley twins made faces at him.
"...Have you ever thought about how he managed to escape everyone's eyes and break into the school?" Snape asked Dumbledore in a suppressed voice.
Winster sounded familiar, this was the tone Snape used when he was suppressing his anger.
"Of course... there are many ideas... but none of them hold water," said Dumbledore.
Winster felt a gaze sweeping over him, which made him frown a little. He turned over and continued to breathe gently.
"You remember...the conversation...before school started."
The sound became fragmented and Winster could not hear it clearly.
But soon they left Gryffindor and walked back.
The sound gradually grew louder.
"I do not believe there is anyone in this castle who could have helped Black to break in," said Dumbledore.
His usual peaceful and loving tone seamlessly switched to a serious tone, which was a little strange, but more in line with Dumbledore's title as the greatest wizard of the century.
He was not a pure, kind old man.
Snape said nothing more.
"I must go down and look for the Dementors," said Dumbledore. "As I said, we shall notify them once we have finished our search."
Percy's voice added with some confusion: "Sir, aren't they here to help?"
"Oh, yes," said Dumbledore grimly, "but I am afraid that I will not allow a single Dementor into the castle as long as I am Headmaster."
The footsteps faded away.
Winster quietly opened his eyes and Dumbledore left again.
Snape's back remained silent.
After a long while, he turned around and left.
——Snape is suspicious of Lupin.
Winster lowered his eyes.
Lupin and Black used to be very good friends. They, Harry's father James Potter, and Wormtail Peter were a famous small team in Gryffindor, the Robbery Quartet.
But just like when Voldemort found the Potter family's hiding place, it was Lupin who was suspected of being in collusion with Voldemort - werewolves are always suspected, because in the wizarding world they are the villains that make children stop crying in bedtime stories... they are Voldemort's lackeys, they are nightmares that there is no turning back once bitten, they are inferior and despised half-humans.
It was late at night, and the magically simulated moon on the top of the auditorium had risen to its highest point.
It’s three o’clock in the morning…
Winster heard no more noise and slowly closed his eyes.
The next day, the portrait in the Gryffindor Common Room was replaced with that of Sir Cadogan and his fat grey horse, and the hottest topic among the students changed from arguing whether Snape was a werewolf or a vampire to arguing about how Black had gotten into the castle.
From the polyjuice potion turning into a classmate to Apparating into the school to Hannah Abbott vowing that Blake would turn into a flowering plant.
The statements are getting more and more bizarre.
Hermione felt desperate that she was probably the only person in the castle who had read Hogwarts: A History.
"I think they have completely forgotten that Dementors are still patrolling outside the school and guarding every entrance to the school.
What disguise can fool those Dementors?" Hermione threw her schoolbag over and walked out of the library with Winston.
Madam Pince was staring at her fiercely from behind.
——Just now, when Hermione and Winston were looking up information, they couldn't help but complain about Gryffindor's new portrait, Sir Cadogan.
"You have no idea how desperate that is!" Hermione complained, flipping through the 20th Century Ministry of Magic Regulations for the Regulation of Magical Creatures in front of her. Madam Pince was looking at her and frowning. "A formula was just announced in the common room this morning, and when I went back in the evening, it had been changed three times - the three people who were blocked at the door with me had four formulas, and some people even remembered the formula that was updated at midnight the night before!" Hermione shouted frantically.
"What else can he do besides provoke people to duel with him? Every day he is either changing passwords or on his way to changing passwords!" Hermione slammed the book in front of her in annoyance.
Winster saw Madam Pince walking towards them with a dark face, holding the "Norse Mythology" in her hand and mouthing the words desperately to Hermione to keep her voice down.
But Hermione gave Madam Pince a look, slammed the table, stood up and swept all the registered books into her bag. She said to Madam Pince, "No need to come over, we'll leave now." She pushed Winster and took the book to find another place to chat.
That's why they were chatting in the corridor.
With the use of the time turner, Hermione gradually became more and more irritable and angry. Now anyone who came would be scolded by her.
"You should learn to give yourself more time to rest, Hermione." Winster helped her take away most of the several large books in her hands, and secretly cast a silent levitation spell on the books in their hands.
Hermione felt the book in her hand suddenly became much lighter. After hesitating for a moment, she swallowed back the words "No spellcasting in the corridor". "Oh, thank you," she said.
But Hermione discovered that Winston had just used a silent spell, which made her even more anxious.
Winster winked at her.
"Should I start preparing for the silent spells?" Hermione quickly freed up one hand and flipped through her schedule, which was densely filled with various places that had passed by in time, as well as the content to be learned, a large part of which had been crossed out. "I was too busy this semester, and I actually forgot to prepare for the content to be learned next semester!"
Winston couldn't help but sweat. "No, no, no, you remembered it wrong Hermione. Silent spells are something you learn in the fifth grade. You don't need to be so anxious. I learned it gradually because it was too troublesome to handle potions and get things recently."
"But you also learned the Invisibility Charm!" Hermione and he walked up the spiral staircase to the door of Trelawney's cottage, pulled down the rope, and went in.
Harry Ron was already waiting for her inside.
"But you don't have the extra time to learn it," Winster whispered, "unless you are willing to go around a few more times and come to me to practice during my rest time."
Hermione has rejected Winston's invitations several times, firmly believing that her study of extracurricular knowledge is just a hobby.
Winster's schedule was also very tight as he still needed to brew potions and could only rest at fixed times. He had copied a copy of the notes and lent it to her.
But Hermione just looked at the notes and had not practiced for a short period of time, so she couldn't get the feeling of disappearing in the crowd.
"Then I'll go first. Come find me when you've made up your mind." Winster saw the seat occupied by Luo, nodded to Hermione, pointed to a time point marked by Hermione, and hurriedly squeezed past the students who were still standing and chatting and didn't want to go to class, and sat next to Luo.
Professor Trelawney walked in and the Divination class was about to begin.
————A small conversation before class in the corridor————
Hermione couldn't believe it, but considering the students next to her, she omitted the word "time converter": "Studying outside of classes is just my hobby. How can we break our oath to Professor McGonagall! I didn't say anything about you using the time to bask in the sun on the lawn!"
Together they crossed the trapped staircase on the second floor and reached the bridge leading to the north tower.
The North Tower is where the Divination classroom is located.
After a while, Winston cast another levitation spell on the book in Hermione's arms: "But my rest is for better study, and the spell you want to practice is also - your sequelae are getting worse, Hermione."
Hermione exhaled and hugged the book a little tighter, "What?"
They walked to the empty stone bridge that connected the north tower to the main body of the castle.
Winster said patiently, "The sequelae - irritability caused by lack of rest. I think this may be the sequelae of the time converter. We are under too much physical and mental pressure."
Hermione hesitated, "…have I? I've been really cranky lately?"
Winster lifted a lock of brown curls from Hermione's shoulder and showed it to her, "You've lost a lot of hair, too."
Hermione hurriedly snatched the hair from Winster's hand, grabbed a handful from her own head, and frowned even tighter: "Oh, no——"
Winster shrugged, and they climbed the spiral staircase of the north tower.
From time to time, crows flew past the pointed windows of the tower, cawing in the heavy snow.
