HP: For a better world
Chapter 2: The days when the Potions Professor forced me to take extra lessons
After Winster told the professor that he needed a new wand, he was apparated directly to the Leaky Cauldron.
Snape directly took action to help Winston solve the problem.
Maybe it was because it was Professor Snape who accompanied Winster to choose a wand. To be honest, he had never expected that Professor Snape in the original book would be so enthusiastic? This almost made him feel panic.
But Winster now needs a wizard to take him with him. He doesn't know how to get to Diagon Alley, how to talk to goblins, or what he should do... He really doesn't know anything. His memory only tells him that he was twelve years old and the plot.
Winster followed Snape closely.
Professor Snape didn't walk very fast, and Winster could easily keep up with him as long as he didn't stop suddenly.
Winster stared at the flying corners of Professor Snape's robes, trying to tell from the height of each flying robe whether Professor Snape was in a good or bad mood...
They first went to Gringotts to get the money, and then went to Olyphant's Wand Shop.
When he arrived at the wand shop, Winster found out that the wand used by the original owner was his mother's relic, and the core of the wand seemed to have been contaminated with basilisk venom in the previous disaster and was destroyed, so he had to choose a new wand -
Cedar wood, Phoenix tail feathers, 13 inches.
"You look a lot like your father, son," said Olyphant, looking Winster up and down with his silver eyes.
But this body is an orphan! Winster remained polite, but his heart was hard to describe. Even if he was similar to someone, the person Olyphant had seen should be his mother.
The goblins told him that the previous owner of the vault in Gringotts was a witch, and when the original owner was registered in the Book of Admission, the vault automatically belonged to him.
No wonder those time travelers always suspect that Olyphant would do the same to everyone, Winster thought.
The wand shop thought that this was his first time buying a wand, so they calculated the price for him as the subsidy for Hogwarts freshmen who bought their first wand, which was seven Galleons.
Winster breathed a sigh of relief, which relieved some of the financial pressure after he looked at the little money left in the vault - he roughly counted and found that there were only three or four hundred Galleons left, which could only last until the sixth grade no matter how much he saved.
But he couldn't just not buy anything extra, he had to practice potions and spells - the materials for many high-level potions were very expensive, and spell practice also required special things to assist.
It was a pity for Winster that he didn't travel through time in his second year - otherwise he would have made Lockhart suffer more in revenge for Lockhart's unscrupulous efforts to increase the sales of his books.
Snape waited impatiently for Winston to finish choosing his wand, then dragged him to St. Mungo's - the full name is St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
It was an old-fashioned red brick department store. The storefront looked run-down and deserted. In the window were a few broken mannequins, wearing crooked wigs and in various poses. A sign reading "Closed for Renovation" hung on the dusty door, and above it was written:
[TaoTao Department Store]
There were quite a few people around, and they all looked like ordinary people. There were dejected homeless people sitting on both sides of the street. Not far away, a store was playing a song, singing "I'd Die for the Stars"[Note 1]
They didn't seem to notice the two men in wizard robes.
——Winster guessed that Snape used the Ignore Charm.
Before Winster could think too much, Snape pushed him in front of a display window. Winster stumbled and almost put his face against it, but fortunately he held on in time. The glass reflected the shadows of the two people. Winster blinked, and the child in the glass also blinked his blue eyes. His greasy dean stood there with a gloomy face and looked unhappy, but Winster knew that he was not really unhappy. He didn't say much along the way... Well, maybe a little.
Inside the window was a female mannequin wearing a green nylon skirt. She was very ugly, with half of her eyelashes fallen off and hanging on her eyes.
Maybe its eyelashes would fall off before Harry arrived.
"Register, Severus Snape with Winster White."
Having said that, Snape moved decisively past the window.
Winster quickly followed.
The other side of the window was even stranger than what I had seen all the way down Diagon Alley.
Rows of wizards sat on rickety wooden chairs, like people waiting to be called in a Muggle hospital - only much more bizarre - some looked normal, except for a copper kettle pouring water on their heads, with steam coming out of it, while others were grotesque, and Winster saw with his own eyes that one wizard's hand was exaggeratedly swollen, with a red thumb, like a fist blown up by Jerry. Winster looked carefully and didn't see a gray-blue American cat.
Wizards and witches in green robes walked around among the waiting patients, asking about their situations. Winster saw the emblems embroidered on their chests: a cross made of a wand and bones.
"they are?"
"Healer." Snape moved his mouth without looking away. From time to time someone came up to say hello, and Snape nodded at them in response.
Winster hesitated for a moment and asked again: "Then what are we doing here?"
Snape led him to the information desk to line up, then lowered his head and stared at him, "I assume that Mr. White lost his memory instead of his brain - of course you come to the hospital to get treatment!" He exhaled from his nose, "...It seems that Mr. White may need to let the healer open your brain later, otherwise I will doubt whether it is necessary for me to promise Dumbledore to give you tutoring."
Winster secretly turned his eyes away. According to Snape's words when he scolded Winster, Winster was the first person to come into contact with that very evil black magic item. Although he seemed lucky not to lose too much vitality, he didn't know if there was any hidden damage. In particular, his memory was severely disturbed and he had to receive a complete examination and treatment.
But for now, I'm afraid Winster will have to stay here for half of his vacation. After seeing his condition, the healer suspected that he had been seriously injured by a very subtle forgetfulness spell, and directly transferred him from the first floor to the fifth floor of the spell injury department. The healer claimed that they had a set of measures specifically for this type of situation, and perhaps they could save some of him. It's worth being optimistic that Winster's condition was not so serious that he forgot how to walk.
When the therapist said this, a very familiar voice came from the next ward. Winster saw Professor Snape standing at the door, looking outside with a happy expression.
Winster looked over curiously.
A blond, blue-eyed wizard showed his white teeth and gave a standard bright smile to every wizard who passed by, waving a bright pink quill as if holding a wand, "Are you here to see my fans?"
"I knew I must be very famous!" Tooth Fairy excitedly spitted at everyone he passed by, as if his mouth was never dry. "...I must be a big shot - Prime Minister, a great wizard... a household name!"
"Everyone likes me. Just wait and see. I will definitely receive the most cards at the Christmas ball this year—"
He tried to continue showing off, but his expression suddenly went blank, like a stuck tape spinning. It looked even a little scary. The therapist who examined Winster leaned out of the room and called out a name. After a while, a therapist hurried over and took him away.
"Professor, who is that?"
Snape turned back with an unsatisfied look after watching the show, "Your former Defense Against the Dark Arts professor." He gave a malicious smile and said in a long voice, "Look, this is the consequence of suffering serious magical damage, White. If you don't want to become a fool with an empty head who can't even taste the flavor of a troll, you have to put down all those little ideas of yours, accept the inspection, and you are not allowed to try magic privately before the make-up class!" He warned.
Winster dismissed the thought in his mind.
In this way, Winster could only read all his textbooks first, and wait day and night for Professor Snape to come to his ward to teach him at a fixed time every week.
According to Winster's own experience in the past few weeks, the early stage of the potion class was very simple. Following the steps in the notebook and practicing a few times, it was as simple as the chemistry experiment in memory. Even the first-year class did not use the wand. Just like the classic lines said by the professor in the book, Winster was sorry that he could not hear it with his own ears, but he could repeat it almost verbatim: "Since there is no silly waving of wands here, many of you will not believe that this is magic. I don't expect you to truly appreciate the beauty of the slow-cooking pot with white smoke and bursts of fragrance. You will not really understand the wonderful magic of the liquid flowing into people's blood vessels, which makes people excited and confused... I can teach you how to improve your reputation, brew glory, and even prevent death - but you have to be different from the fools I often see."
As for the potions he had learned so far, they required more precision and following instructions - this was not much different from the chemistry experiments Winster had learned before, he just needed more practice.
Snape waved his wand and turned a piece of parchment on the table into a blackboard. "I have asked the professors of your other courses about your learning situation. In view of Mr. White's solid theoretical ability, I will focus the course mainly on practice... I believe you have already studied the textbook on your own in advance."
"Yes, sir," Winster replied. He learned very quickly, as if the original owner was still alive. He could remember everything after reading it once, and he quickly mastered the theory again. However, he still didn't quite understand the lines that the original owner had specially drawn on the illustrations in his notebook with colored pens.
Snape then randomly checked a few questions on him, and only started teaching him after making sure that Winster had memorized all the necessary knowledge. There were very few practical operations required for the first grade, and most of the classes were theoretical. Winster's make-up classes were reduced a lot. This made Snape feel much better, and Winster saw with his own eyes that the corners of the professor's mouth seemed to rise.
"Very good, then today we will learn the first spell [Levitation Spell]. First of all, we need to know that this spell is often used to reduce the weight of objects and make them float -"
The professor paced back and forth in the room.
"What's the point of the Levitation Charm, White."
Snape asked suddenly.
"When you wave the wand, you need to shake it a little bit, and pay attention to pronouncing the word gar. The most important thing is to pronounce the words clearly," Winston responded quickly, "because if you pronounce it wrong, it is very likely to change the original meaning of the spell and turn it into the Bison Curse. The first person in history to mispronounce a spell was the wizard Baruffio. He said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself lying on the floor with a bison standing on his chest.
The spell is... Wingardium Leviosa. It means 'rise to the heights.'"
"It seems that Mr. White has copied all the knowledge in the book into his notes... Very good, Slytherin gets ten points - even though you are not in school."
Winster was a little nervous, but more excited.
"Well, well... It's easy to say, but some trolls always show me many new tricks," Snee took out a feather and put it on the table. He took out his wand and pointed it at it:
“Just like this, swing and shake… Wingardium Leviosa—”
The feather floated up between the two of them.
"That's it, now it's your turn, White."
The feather fell back down and lay quietly there.
Winster took a deep breath, holding the cedar wand... and waved it: "Wingardium Leviosa!"
At that moment he just focused on the feather, forgetting everything and just imagining that it would float up, float up...
The feather trembled, as if struggling once or twice, and it shook violently on the table... but it was ultimately unable to resist the command of the spell, and floated up steadily and unquestionably.
A huge sense of surprise spread out from somewhere, and Winster couldn't even suppress the upturned corners of his mouth. He stared at the feathers and felt a strange flow from his body extending from his arms along the movement... just like in the notes.
——The flow of magic
Snape seemed very, very surprised. He paused for a moment, and as usual, he said nothing more, but simply motioned him to put down the feather. Then he stared at White and said slowly: "In this case, I guess - my next task should be much easier."
Winster smiled widely.
