HP: For a better world

Chapter 12 Hello, Buckbeak

The rain had just cleared the sky, and the grass on the ground was still wet. Not far away from Hagrid's hut, the pumpkin patch was growing lushly. Yaya yawned and lay in front of the cabin, letting out a sleepy snore from his throat.

The students had gathered together, the blue Ravenclaws whispering to each other, the yellow Hufflepuffs bumping heads with each other obediently, and the red and green Gryffindors and Slytherins in a clear stalemate, until Hagrid walked out from the side of the woods with heavy footsteps.

He was wearing a string of dead animals - well, not necklaces, Winster recognised them as looking a bit like ferrets - and Hagrid pulled one off and threw it far back.

It was really far away, over the wall and down to the edge of the forbidden forest. A blue beak poked out from the woods and dragged the flesh into the woods. After a while, a strange cry was heard, as if it was very happy.

Lavender pointed to where the ferret had disappeared and screamed. From her angle, she could just see the ferret being dragged away and torn apart.

"What is that? What is that?!" She asked, stroking her chest in shock and swallowing.

Hagrid shook a handful of chains in his hand - Winster only then saw that the chains in his hand were really a bunch, and they looked strong and difficult to break, extending all the way to the back of the tree trunk where the ferret disappeared - Hagrid shouted, "Go, this way!" At the end of the chains there was a flapping and sand-scratching sound, as if a large group of animals were struggling there.

Hippogriffs pawed their way out of the woods, humming and whining in small complaints.

They had the bodies, legs, and shaggy tails of horses, but the forelegs, wings, and heads of eagles in flight. Their beaks were the color of steel, and their eyes shone with a dim yellow light.

"Bad boys, come here, come here." Hagrid walked over and stroked their sharp eagle beaks, which were the same color as the chains. He threw a few dead ferrets to appease them, tied the chains to a thick fence nearby, and then walked back, clapping his hands and shouting happily: "Everyone come together!"

The students slowly moved a little closer to him.

Hippogriffs were snatching at the bodies of the ferrets, tearing them apart, and the flesh and blood dripped to the ground.

"I noticed that many of you knew how to open your books," Hagrid clapped his hands excitedly. "I - I thought some of you didn't know how to - oh, yes, just stroke it like Harry did!"

The Slytherins held the quiet monster book and watched coldly as Harry was stroking the spine of the book.

Malfoy held his chin high and looked at the bewildered little wizards.

Winster was hiding in the crowd and watching the scene. Behind him, Mike and Carl were sticking their heads out and discussing in low voices with great interest the handsome magical animal that was trying to peck the ferret from behind when Hagrid wasn't paying attention.

Mike: "He's so cute, isn't he? Look, Carl, he's still secretly pecking at the ferret's eyes."

Carl: "Ohhh yes! Look at the one behind him - her feathers are blacker than the darkest night! So beautiful..."

Winster couldn't help but turn his head and say to them: "Don't you think your voices are a bit too loud?"

Mike, Carl: "Uh..."

Hagrid's sparkling eyes had already picked them out from a group of Slytherins.

"Oh! I'm so glad some of you like them so much - they're Hippogriffs." Hagrid waved happily at them, motioning them to come over.

Mike and Carl looked at Winster pleadingly.

Winster shrugged helplessly and could only whisper his assurances that he would give them both some protection.

Mike and Carl walked up to Hagrid with heavy steps and were held by him in each of their arms.

The students couldn't help but look at him with sympathy.

"One thing to note - Hippogriffs are very proud and beautiful, and their feathers and hair are all different colors, usually stormy gray, bronze, pink piebald, sparkling reddish brown and inky black."

Hagrid smiled and patted Mike's shoulder heavily, which made Mike look bitter. "I know you would be willing to give it a try--"

He looked expectantly into Slytherin again, as if trying to find a few more "supporters" like Michael Carl.

The Slytherins immediately showed cautious and resistant expressions, and it seemed that no one wanted to go up and give it a try - it seemed that they all opened the book and took a good look at it this time.

Hagrid looked away in disappointment and looked at Gryffindor: "Harry! I think you will like this!"

He waved with a smile on his face.

Harry walked over with a somewhat stiff expression.

Hermione and Ron looked at him sympathetically from behind.

"Remember, they're all very proud of the Hippogriff," Hagrid said loudly. "The Hippogriff has a bad temper. Don't try to humiliate him, or you could get yourself killed."

Winster heard Malfoy next to him couldn't help but mutter: "Yes, we all know." He said sarcastically. Pansy and the others followed suit and laughed.

Hagrid didn't hear the sound coming from the corner: "Be sure to wait for the hippogriff to move first," Hagrid instructed: "This is polite, understand? You walk towards him and bow. If he bows to you, you can touch him. If he doesn't bow, you should leave quickly - being hurt by their claws is no joke -"

He urged nervously, then he pulled out a chain and a storm-grey hippogriff stepped out of the herd, kicking his claws. "One at a time. Harry, you go first."

What? Oh, no—Harry swallowed and walked towards the chain.

Obviously, the monster was not so happy. It raised its upper body high and flapped its wings violently in the direction of the collar - it was pulled back to the ground by Hagrid.

"—Oh don't worry, Harry, Buckbeak is just a little frisky," said Hagrid, patting Buckbeak's gleaming metallic beak.

—He calls this a bit lively?

Mike and Carl, who were released, hurriedly left Hagrid and the others.

Hagrid hesitated for a moment but still didn't untie the chain. "Come on, Harry, bow. Be a good boy, Buckbeak," he said, holding the chain and walking a little further away to give Harry space.

Harry stared at the grey-feathered hippogriff, and slowly bent down as described in the monster book.

"...Don't blink, Harry, blinking too often will make him think you can't be trusted..." Hagrid said in a low voice behind Harry.

Buckbeak kicked his paws irritably and looked at Harry with his fierce yellow eyes.

Harry stared into its eyes, sweat dripping down his cheeks.

Sweat seemed to flow into his eyes, and Harry felt an unbearable itch spreading from his eyes - he could hardly stop blinking.

Buckbeak stared at Harry, not moving.

Winster quietly raised his wand from behind, ready to cast the Flying Spell if anything happened.

But Buckbeak knelt down and bowed to Harry as in the original story, and allowed him to ride on him for a ride.

Winster heaved a sigh of relief, put down his wand, and watched Harry fly into the sky on Buckbeak. He turned his gaze back to Michael and Carl, and found with amusement that they had gotten rid of their fear just now, and their eyes were looking expectantly at Harry flying high in the sky.

Harry and Buckbeak soon flew back, and Hagrid waved and shouted at them, signaling Buckbeak to land here.

"Oh, good boy, good boy Buckbeak," Hagrid smiled happily and rewarded Buckbeak with several ferrets, which Buckbeak swallowed happily one by one.

The other hippogriffs flapped their wings jealously, then reluctantly rubbed up to Hagrid, trying to snatch a few ferrets from the string hanging on his chest.

"Now everyone knows how to approach them, come and try it." Hagrid smiled and called on the students to climb into the paddock and unchain the hippogriffs one by one.

Winster cast an armor spell on himself and Michael, and approached a hippogriff as beautiful as the night with some excitement.

Winster stared at the beautiful animal and was about to bow to her, but he saw a golden light flashing in his peripheral vision and heard faint laughter in his ears:

"...I knew it would be easy. Since Potter can do it...I dare say you are not dangerous at all, right?" Malfoy's boastful voice came into his ears, and Winster subconsciously moved so fast that he didn't have time to think.

He raised his wand, his mind going blank -

"Is that so? You ugly--" Big beast.

"——Malfoy is coming!"

Malfoy felt a huge pulling force pulling him away from where he was. He fell to the ground in a daze and rolled several times, only stopping when he was covered in dust.

Behind him was Buckbeak's claws, which he had just retracted. He was attacking the ground angrily, digging several deep grooves with his claws. He was crying loudly and even wanted to peck Malfoy with his sharp beak.

Pansy Parkinson, who was standing nearby, screamed in fright, and Hagrid hurried over to comfort Buckbeak.

Malfoy looked back and saw the deep claw marks on the ground. He shuddered and couldn't imagine what would happen if the claws scratched him. He turned back with lingering fear, wanting to see who saved him.

But then a series of screams broke out among the students, among which Hermione's voice was the most obvious:

"Winster——"

"Watch out!" "White!"

Winston had just saved Malfoy, and he breathed a sigh of relief, letting go of his hand slightly, but he had forgotten that he was saluting just now - the black hippogriff was provoked, and raised its sharp claws in anger and landed on his back -

Amid the screams, a barely perceptible sound of shattering was heard.

Draco saw Winster flying heavily to the ground, and he rushed over, rolling and crawling: "White! White! Are you okay?" His face turned pale with fright due to a series of unexpected events.

Mike and Carl, who had just shouted, also rushed over.

Hagrid quickly tied up the other hippogriff that was still struggling, and hurried over to Buckbeak's side, pushing aside the students who were gathered together. "Get out of the way! Let me see!"

Harry, Hermione, and Ron squeezed in behind Hagrid, looking worried.

Hagrid checked it out and said with great relief, "It's okay, he just fainted."

"'He just fainted'!" Draco repeated his words and shouted in disbelief: "What do you mean just! You brought such dangerous beasts into the classroom! Without giving us any protection! They almost hurt us, and White even fell here! If it weren't for his luck--" Draco's face turned red with anger.

"--Fortunately White prepared the armor spell in advance." Mike said fearfully.

"If he hadn't prepared a spell for himself in advance--" Draco pointed angrily at the two deep marks on the ground, "Do you want us all to die here!"

"I will tell my dad about this!" Malfoy shouted angrily, "--Just wait, big guy, you will be expelled from school tomorrow!"

Hagrid stood there at a loss.

Draco glanced at the bewildered classmates and accurately called out the names of the two followers next to Winster: "Mike! Carl! Come here, lift White up, we'll send him to the medical wing!" Mike and Carl hurried over to help the unconscious Winster up.

Then he angrily rejected Hagrid's request for help and asked Crabbe and Goyle to help send White to the hospital wing.

"...Hagrid? What should we do next?" Harry watched Winston being sent away worriedly, and hesitated to follow him, but Hagrid was still there.

"...Oh, what else can I do... Let's do it this way..." Hagrid covered his face with his hands and sobbed as if he was crying, "...I have to go and see... Your get out of class is over... get out of class is over... Go back." He let out a sigh like he was crying.

Hagrid trudged past Harry, leaving the Hippogriff tethered to the fence behind him.
