Chapter 103 Another Duel, Draco's Stupidity and Reluctance
"Nott." Draco led Crabbe and Goyle through the hall, found Nott who was holding the Daily Prophet and asked him directly, "Do you want to be a prefect too?!"
Nott's surprised eyes looked from behind the brand new newspaper: "...Why do you think so, Malfoy?" He said slowly and with a little mockery: "Who doesn't want to be a prefect?"
"... What's more, it happens to be the time for the student council to change terms, and the student council president will rotate." He said faintly: "Who doesn't want to ascend to the top in one step and declare himself the one who can suppress everyone in this generation of Slytherin? As long as he becomes a prefect, the position of male student council president in the seventh year will basically belong to him. Even if he wants to enter the Ministry of Magic, he will have a higher position."
"You want to join the Ministry?!"
"Of course not." Nott said boringly, "Go to a place full of mixed-bloods and crawl slowly? I don't want to."
"Besides," Nott lowered his head with a lack of interest and continued to flip through the newspaper in his hand. When he saw that there was no more substantial content, he put it aside: "In the past, your father gave you enough things, so he listened to you... But now your father has been kicked out of the school board, and he changes his mind according to the wind. Who cares about your ideas? It will only be possible when you succeed the Malfoy family as the head."
"If you can't even suppress them, there's no point in being a prefect. You might as well throw it to those restless half-bloods." Nott said indifferently, "They'll need our support in the end anyway. Praise them for their excellence. Relax, Draco. Our family is all manipulators."
“No matter how good they are, they can’t surpass us.”
Nott put his hand on Malfoy's shoulder and patted him gently.
Draco narrowed his eyes and mercilessly brushed his hand away: "That's a nice thing to say, but what do you want to do by stirring up trouble in other houses--"
"You are showing your strength to others and challenging my position!" Draco said unhappily.
"...You can do this," Nott shrugged. "The dean is not here anyway, so he won't settle accounts afterwards. Just find a few guys you don't like to show your authority, stir up disputes and avoid punishment... The power of the family is not always enough. You focus too much on Potter and White and ignore the fact that you should show yourself - after all, if possible, they would rather listen to White, who has a similar background to them, rather than you."
Nott said calmly: "White doesn't listen to you again."
"Of course White listens to me!" Draco retorted with a red face.
"Whatever you say is fine." Nott said indifferently, "It's just that to anyone with discerning eyes, you have a strange fascination with him - I really don't understand why you sometimes have to act according to his wishes - what does the likes and dislikes of the mudblood have to do with us?"
"You used to laugh at Granger with me, what are you doing now? Draco, don't end up like those blood traitors."
Draco seemed extremely insulted, and Crabbe and Goyle followed his anger and glared at Nott.
He shouted loudly: "Who wants to go along with the Weasleys! Even if I die, Draco Malfoy will never have a good impression of those mudbloods in this life - if you insult Malfoy again, I will challenge you to a duel!"
"Okay, okay... pure Malfoy~" Nott showed a bored look: "You won't get close to those mudbloods, nor will you become a pure-blood traitor"
"—Then prove it to us."
Nott pouted, pushed the discarded newspaper in front of Draco, and pointed to a report for him to see.
"Look, I have a ready-made excuse." He crossed his arms over his chest and raised his chin. A hint of sarcasm appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"You wouldn't be afraid to challenge the Weasleys because of White's friendship with them, would you? No? No?"
Nott sneered at him: "You are such an obedient pet, little dragon."
"You are deliberately trying to irritate me--" Draco said.
"Of course," Nott admitted decisively, and said indifferently: "Just tell me whether you are going or not?"
He rolled up the newspaper, which still smelled of ink, and handed it to Draco.
Draco hesitated briefly, then snatched the paper tube.
"Just go! I'm not a traitor!"
he blurted out.
Nott shrugged and looked away with a bored look, as if to say: Ha, I knew it.
……
Draco knew this was a provocation, but he couldn't help it - he was Malfoy, Malfoy had to be the best! It was just a provocation to Weasley, even if White was angry, he should understand that he should obey him instead of trying to tame him! This was a punishment for his disobedience -
He quickly glanced at today's Daily Prophet and said abruptly:
"Hey!" he shouted towards the Gryffindors. "Weasley!"
"Have you read today's newspaper? It's an official report about our Dark Arts professor blowing up the trash can! It's rare that your father's name is on it! - Your family is finally famous, Weasley. Maybe it's time for us to get rid of the rumor that the Weasley family is so poor that they can't even find a gold Galleon!"
Draco sneered and raised the Daily Prophet in his hand and shouted, "There's another photo here! Is it a photo of your family--" He deliberately asked loudly, attracting everyone's attention.
Ron: "Shut up, Malfoy!"
As everyone's eyes were drawn to him, he carefully unfolded the newspaper and read aloud:
"There's a new mess at the Ministry of Magic—"
[——New troubles in the Ministry of Magic——
Rita Skeeter, a special correspondent for the newspaper, wrote: "The Ministry of Magic has been under fire recently for its failure to maintain order at the Quidditch World Cup and its failure to catch any suspects. Yesterday, the Ministry was again questioned by the bizarre behaviour of Arnold Weasley, who heads the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office. [1]
"Shut up! Malfoy!!!" Ron roared in a loud voice.
However, Malfoy read aloud: "Arnold Weasley was accused of owning a flying car two years ago..."
[…When Mr. Weasley arrived at the scene, he discovered that Mr. Moody had just made another false alarm and had attacked the Director of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, who had come to discuss cooperation for the Triwizard Tournament. As a result, a female wizard official who had just been found fell into a coma again and is currently staying at St. Mungo’s. The author strongly doubts whether this once-famous former Auror can still bear the high-profile burden of the security of the Triwizard Tournament. But when Mr. Weasley arrived at the scene, he was surrounded by the "police" and had to modify the memories of these Muggles - when the reporter from the Daily Prophet asked him why he wanted the Ministry of Magic to continue to be involved in this meaningless and potentially tricky incident under such troublesome circumstances, Mr. Weasley refused to answer. ][2]
"Look at this! Is this a picture of your house, Weasley?" Draco held up the newspaper, showing the photo side to everyone, and laughed loudly: "You actually call this a house?! My house-elves live in a better place than yours!"
"If your mother could lose some weight, maybe she could fit more of your Weasley kids in there!"
Malfoy deliberately imitated the squeal of a pig and laughed out loud.
Nott, Crabbe-Gall and the others laughed loudly in unison.
"How dare you insult my mother!"
Ron's blood boiled, and he grabbed his wand and rushed forward. Harry hurriedly pulled him back: "Wait a minute, Ron! He did it on purpose! Be careful, he wants to irritate you!"
Ron struggled and roared, "But he insulted my family! I'm going to kill this guy! - Coward! Come on and duel!" He roared at Draco, "Don't hide behind others! Fight like a man!"
"You dare to insult my mother in front of everyone, don't you dare to stand up and fight with me, Malfoy!"
Fred and George drew their wands and stood up at the same time. Each of them put a hand on Ron's shoulder and continued:
"Shut up, Ron."
Fred: "It's not your turn yet."
"If there's going to be a duel, we should go first," said George.
"My brother will come last, and Ginny will be last." Fred said with a straight face, holding his wand.
George put his arm around Fred's shoulder and said, "Hey! Brother, I couldn't agree more with what you said."
The two of them walked out of the crowd at the same time, and the others followed their own will and dispersed, moving away tables and chairs to make room for them.
Draco saw that even Ginny had rolled up her sleeves and was sneering at him.
He panicked for a moment and quickly turned his head to look back, looking past the two big stupid guys Crabbe and Goyle, trying to find a few companions from Slytherin.
But they all chose to watch coldly, and Nott, who had been sneering just now, hid in the crowd without anyone knowing when.
"!!!"
I've been tricked! Draco realized.
He thought at least there would be others who would support him—
But the twins' unquestionable voice pulled his head back.
"Malfoy!"
"Choose your opponent among us, and the other one will be your assistant!" Fred said, pointing at himself and George.
"You also choose someone as your assistant." George said.
"We're two against two!"
"That's fair enough!" said George.
"That makes perfect sense," Fred agreed.
Draco looked back again in panic, but no one stepped forward and Cliff just watched with a sarcastic look on his face.
He held the wand and raised his head: "Choose one among you?"
Draco forced himself to sneer: "I'm not stupid!"
"You are trying to bully the weak!" He shouted, shaking his wand. "Is this the education of your Weasley family - bullying the weak?"
Fred couldn't hold it in any longer and rolled up his sleeves, ready to rush over and beat him up, but George reached out from behind and held him down.
Fred frowned and looked back, with angry eyes, asking his brother why he held him down and beat Malfoy. He didn't believe that his brother didn't want to give Malfoy a beating and teach him that a dog's mouth is bound to spit out dog teeth.
George shook his head seriously, motioning him to wait. Then he stepped out from behind Fred and asked coldly, "Who do you want to fight?"
He looked at Ginny: "You wouldn't say you don't want us to fight you and choose Ginny who is younger than you, Malfoy."
Draco withdrew his gaze guiltily, his eyes on his nose and his nose on his heart. As long as he didn't say it out loud, it didn't exist.
"Where's your tutor, Malfoy?" George retorted, pretending to be surprised: "Oh! I forgot, you don't have any tutor to speak of if you can say that before."
He said sarcastically.
Draco's face flashed with anger.
He was briefly angry, but didn't react from the bottom of his heart.
Ron rubbed his hands.
Compared to Ginny Weasley, who had become famous not long after entering school, his old friend Ron Weasley was a better duelling opponent.
"I choose him!" Draco pointed at Ron and shouted, then his eyes moved between Goyle and Crabbe and he chose Goyle, who seemed to be a little smarter just now.
"Gall as my assistant." Draco said quickly, "You are not allowed to choose Granger who is older, younger, or has no relationship with you!"
Ron shouted "yes, yes, yes" wildly, and his desire to beat Draco up in broad daylight became stronger and stronger.
