A life of two souls traveling through time

Chapter 73: Making an exception and accepting a disciple

Si Yao was sent back to Sanxiu Pharmacy by the black-clad guards overnight. Sanxiu was overjoyed to hear the news and came out to greet him in person with the help of his disciple Xiu Ming. This was his first appearance since New Year's Eve.

In the front yard, everyone in the pharmacy happily surrounded Si Yao. Guo Ying was so excited that she threw herself into Si Yao's arms. Xiaolu also showed a happy look and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"Master." Si Yao looked at Sanxiu, who looked even more haggard. Thinking of Huifeng's greetings to his master in prison, tears started to fall again.

"Why are you crying, kid? Did they bully you?" Seeing Si Yao suddenly burst into tears, Sanxiu was a little at a loss and asked hurriedly with concern.

Si Yao wiped her tears and shook her head, not knowing how to express what was in her mind.

"Master, I think Si Yao is tired too. Let's talk about it tomorrow." Xiu Ming saw the tiredness in Si Yao's eyes and advised San Xiu.

"Yeah, I feel relieved now that I'm home. Have a good sleep tonight." Sanxiu nodded in agreement and comforted Si Yao.

The manor owner's words warmed Si Yao's heart, and her eyes became red again. Even she herself lamented that her tears tonight were like a blocked spring that could not be stopped.

The owner of the manor ordered Si Yao to have a good rest, so everyone returned to the backyard and did not disturb Si Yao.

Sanxiu suddenly pulled Xiuming into his room. Xiuming looked at his master, who seemed to be hesitant to speak, and who had not shown his silly look for a long time. He could not help but ask curiously, "Master, what's wrong?"

"The world is unpredictable and ever-changing. How can people remain unchanged? Don't you think so?" Sanxiu sat cross-legged on the couch with his hands crossed, his thumbs twirling each other. He glanced guiltily at the disciple in front of him and muttered softly.

"Master, what did you say before that you want to take back?" Looking at his childlike master, Xiu Ming smiled helplessly.

"Hehe, I think Si Yao is a good kid. He has a pure heart, is smart and courageous, is down-to-earth and intelligent. He is also a good material for studying medicine." Sanxiu rolled his eyes at his apprentice, lowered his head and cleared his throat, then he regained his demeanor as a teacher and spoke seriously.

"Master wants to..." Xiu Ming smiled knowingly, but was interrupted by Si Yao's sudden voice outside the door:

"Master, Sir, Si Yao has something to say."

The two people in the room looked at each other in surprise. Speak of the devil and he'll appear?

Xiuming stood up, opened the door, and led Siyao to Sanxiu.

"You must have been frightened a lot these past two days. Why don't you take a good rest? Can't you wait until tomorrow to say something after you've rested enough?" Sanxiu looked at Si Yao, who looked unwell, and couldn't help but frowning with heartache.

When Sanxiu finished speaking, Si Yao suddenly knelt in front of him, and the master and disciple were shocked again.

"Si Yao dare not delay or conceal this matter concerning the Second Master."

"Junior brother? Have you seen junior brother?" Hearing the news about Hui Feng, both master and disciple became nervous, Xiu Ming asked Si Yao anxiously.

Si Yao nodded, and then told the details of what happened tonight. After learning that his little disciple committed suicide in prison, Sanxiu was heartbroken again and fell on the bed and burst into tears. Xiu Ming, who was standing beside him, was also in great grief, but he had to suppress his emotions and comfort his master.

Half an hour later, Sanxiu barely fell asleep with the help of calming incense. Xiuming and Siyao walked side by side in the corridor on the second floor. The night was peaceful and light snow began to fall in the cold weather. Both of them felt sad.

"I'm sorry." After a while, Si Yao suddenly broke the silence, lowered his eyes and said three words.

"You helped him fulfill his wish, so don't blame yourself." Xiu Ming's eyes were red, he sighed and comforted Si Yao.

"But....."

"From the moment he started to implement his revenge plan, he had already embarked on a path of no return. None of us can save him. The path you helped him choose is his best destination at the moment." Xiu Ming finished speaking slowly, turned around and looked at Si Yao, forced a comforting smile, and continued: "Junior brother once told me that since entering Sanxiu Pharmacy, he has found another meaning of living in the medical way of saving the dying and healing the wounded, so you should not blame yourself, but cheer up and continue to move forward with the meaning he longs for."

"Don't worry, sir. I will." Si Yao looked up at Xiu Ming and said firmly, two lines of tears falling from the corners of her eyes again.

Seeing Si Yao crying tonight, Xiu Ming felt distressed for some reason. He took up his sleeve to wipe the tears from her face, and then said gently: "It's cold at night, go back to your room quickly."

Si Yao nodded, bowed to Xiu Ming and turned to leave. When Si Yao's figure walked away, Xiu Ming's long-suppressed sadness emerged again. He raised his head and sighed, and tears could no longer be held back.

Si Yao returned to her room and fell asleep in a daze until midnight because of the disturbance of the night's events. However, she was awakened by Guo Ying's knocking on the door early in the morning.

"Sister Yao, hurry up and get up, wash and dress well. Today is your big day, how can you get up so late?" Si Yao, who was still in a daze, had just opened the door when she was dragged to the bronze mirror by Guo Ying in a hurry.

"What good day?" Si Yao came to his senses after hearing Guo Ying's words and asked in confusion.

“Don’t you know? The owner of the manor wants to accept you as his last disciple!” Guo Ying was also surprised to see Si Yao looking confused.

"What did you say?" Si Yao was surprised and happy when he heard it.

"Hey, don't be in a daze, wash up quickly, the owner and the master are waiting in the tea room." Seeing Si Yao still in a daze, Guo Ying became very anxious and hurried to find her coat.

In the tea room, Sanxiu sat in the main seat with a rare serious look on her face. Xiuming next to her was elegant and kind. He drank the tea in his hand and looked outside from time to time. A dozen medicine boys from the pharmacy were also waiting outside the door. When they saw Si Yao following Guo Ying, they all showed envy in their eyes.

Si Yao still wore a light bamboo green medicine boy's uniform when she entered the tea room. Her status was naturally different as she was going to be Mr. Sanxiu's direct disciple. Guo Ying wanted to change her clothes but found that there were only the medicine boy's clothes distributed by the manor in Si Yao's wardrobe.

"Si Yao greets the owner of the manor, Master." With everyone's gazes on him, Si Yao walked up to Sanxiu and Xiuming and bowed to them.

"Si Yao, you have been in the pharmacy for two months. During this period, I have witnessed your ambition to study medicine. I am also pleased that you have been studying medical theories day and night. Therefore, I will make an exception and accept you as my apprentice today." When Sanxiu saw Si Yao, his serious expression softened a little. After a few simple and straightforward words, he handed her an exquisite small mahogany plate.

Si Yao took the wooden sign with both hands, feeling extremely excited. This was the identity card that symbolized that she was Mr. Sanxiu's direct disciple. Today, her wish of becoming Mr. Sanxiu's disciple finally came true.

"Thank you, owner."

"Ahem, time to change my tune."

After Xiuming's reminder, Si Yao finally reacted and bowed three times respectfully: "Disciple Si Yao greets Master!"

"The road of medicine is long. As your teacher, I hope that you will continue to work hard in the future. You must not be afraid of hardships and take it as your responsibility to save the world and stick to the heart of a doctor." Sanxiu looked at Si Yao and smiled slightly, but tears welled up in his eyes. He remembered that it was in this teahouse three years ago that Huifeng paid homage to him and he gave Huifeng earnest instructions.
