A life of two souls traveling through time

Chapter 17 Snow Mountain Bandit Suppression 1

Si Yao got what she wanted and found a job with free food, accommodation and wages. She moved into the Huang Mansion smoothly. However, what made her feel awkward was that she had to share a room with three other hunters and they had to squeeze on a long kang. But she didn't want to reveal her identity as a woman, so even if she resisted in her heart, she had to accept the reality.

"Hey, why did that guy run away again?"

As night fell, a dim oil lamp was lit in a long, low house in a remote area west of the Huang Mansion.

"Who knows? This little brother is very strange. He doesn't talk much during the day and disappears at night. For three consecutive nights, it seems that he only came back after we fell asleep."

"This Si Yao looks like a pretty boy. Could it be that he has fallen in love with some girl in the mansion and is secretly going out to meet her every night?"

"Hey, don't spread this around. If the boss hears about it, who knows what will happen."

"Yes, yes. We are new here, so there is no need to gossip about this. Besides, we are here to make a living, so stay out of this kind of thing."

"Hey, I was just joking in private..."

Under a big tree near the house, Si Yao was standing in the snow, yawning and shivering from the cold. He stared at the lights in the house, feeling anxious: Why aren't they sleeping yet?

For three consecutive nights, she braved the cold wind and stayed outside until the other three people in the house turned off the lights and fell asleep. Then she quietly went back to the room, wrapped herself in heavy clothes, covered herself with a quilt, and fell asleep.

It was just dawn and the morning exercise in the military camp outside the city had just ended. Yan Zong and his subordinate Yu Cheng had already ridden back to the camp.

"Your Highness, have you been traveling for three consecutive days?"

Inside the tent, Mr. Fan looked at the prince, who was sitting at the desk with a weather-beaten face and looked exhausted, and said with concern.

"Your Highness has been concerned about the threat of bandits, so he has not stopped for a moment." Yu Cheng, who was wolfing down his meal, spoke first.

"Haha, General Yu Cheng has worked hard too. Eat slowly and don't choke." Mr. Fan smiled and turned around to pour a glass of hot wine for the general who was also exhausted.

"Oh, no need, Mr. Fan, Yu Cheng can do it himself." Yu Cheng smiled shyly and respectfully took the wine from Mr. Fan's hand.

"Is there still no movement at the old broken slope?" Yan Zong suddenly asked seriously, turning his head and staring at the map behind him.

"I have had people keeping an eye on him for several days, but there is no news." Mr. Fan also sighed with a look of distress.

"How can they stay here like this when they are already seriously short of food? Could it be that they are so scared that they dare not come out and would rather starve?" Seeing that His Highness and Mr. Fan started to talk about business, Yu Cheng had to put down the wine glass in his hand and sit up straight.

"Hmph, they are really brave and tough, otherwise they wouldn't have taken us so long." Yan Zong sneered.

"Yes, the severe food shortage is only one-sided words of the captives. We can only believe it with a grain of salt. I heard that the leader of this group of bandits is well versed in military tactics. We must not underestimate the enemy."

"But they are lying there like thousand-year-old turtles, and we can't rush into the mountains rashly. We can't just stay there like this!" Yu Cheng sighed anxiously.

"We have plenty of supplies, so it's not a problem for us to waste them, but..." Mr. Fan stroked his long beard and became worried.

"Your Highness, you are back?" At this time, Arnold rushed into the tent with a large bow in his hand. Seeing Yan Zong sitting in the seat, his brows immediately lit up with joy.

"Oh, Your Highness, you seem full of energy now that you've come back. These past two days..." The young man's intrusion interrupted the conversation of the three people, and Mr. Fan's serious expression turned into a smile.

"Master Fan!" Arnold hurriedly grabbed Mr. Fan's sleeve and interrupted him.

"Yu Cheng, you've worked hard these days. Go back and have a rest." Yan Zong naturally saw Arnold's thoughts.

"Thank you, Your Highness!" After three days of travel, Yu Cheng was indeed very sleepy after having eaten and drunk his fill.

"Tell me, what happened in the past two days?" After Yu Cheng left the tent, Yan Zong raised his tired and red eyes and looked at Arnold.

"Nothing... nothing, Your Highness. Master Fan is just trying to please me." Arnold looked around nervously.

"Really? Who was the one who hid under the covers and cried as soon as he got home that day?"

"Master Fan, you are talking nonsense, I am not crying... Your Highness, I am going to the riding and archery range!" Arnold's face suddenly turned red and white, and he turned around and ran out in a hurry.

"You little brat, you're still embarrassed." Mr. Fan watched Arnold slip away and smiled lovingly.

"What's going on?" Arnold has been following Yan Zong since he was six years old, and he was quite surprised by the reaction just now.

"Your Highness, do you still remember the girl you rescued from the wolf pack that night?"

"Remember, how is she?"

"The girl has recovered from her injury and left the post station. Arnold has visited her three times. Somehow, he was sad when the girl suddenly left without saying goodbye."

"So, that's why he cried?" Yan Zong frowned in disbelief.

"Of course it is."

"No future." Yan Zong angrily threw the notebook in his hand on the table.

"Your Highness, do you still remember that before we picked up Arnold, he had a sister? The relationship between the siblings was very good, but it was a pity that the sister had a short life... Perhaps this irreparable flaw transferred the emotions buried deep in his heart to that girl." Mr. Fan did not care about Yan Zong's anger. He smiled and sighed.

"Doesn't he remember anything from the past?"

“Some things may be forgotten with time, but the attachment and emotion of things that touch the heart will not disappear easily even if the memory is blurred.”

Mr. Fan's words moved Yan Zong. After a moment of silence, he spoke coldly:

"Send someone to find that girl. Since she has received my life-saving grace, how could she just leave without saying a word?"

Although he was a little surprised by the prince's rash decision, Mr. Fan did not say much. He also knew that although His Highness was usually cold, he could indulge Arnold and chatter around him like a sparrow, and tolerate his small mistakes made because of playfulness. It can be seen that His Highness loved Arnold as much as he, as a master.

"Mr. Fan, there's an accident at Lao Duanpo!" As Mr. Fan just walked out of the tent, a non-commissioned officer came to report.

"What happened?" The majestic voice in the tent spoke before Mr. Fan could open his mouth.

Hearing the sound, the two people outside hurried into the tent.

"Your Highness, our men ambushed at the old broken slope were attacked by bandits and their lives are unknown. Only one person came back to report the news but he was also seriously injured."

"Finally, we've taken action." Yan Zong's red eyes immediately showed his murderous intent: "Immediately notify Yu Cheng to bring the prisoners with him and prepare to head to Laoduanpo."

"Yes, Your Highness."
