The first person the cat helped was a scholar who was going to Beijing to take an imperial examination. He fell ill in a dilapidated temple, had run out of money, and was about to die.

When the cat saw the scholar, it asked him, "I am a practicing cat, and I can help you realize a wish." The scholar said that his wish was to recover from his illness soon, go to Beijing to take the imperial examination, get the top scorer, and become an honest official in the future to benefit the people.

The cat said: My wish is to grow a ninth tail.

So the scholar told the cat that his wish was to fulfill the cat's wish and let it grow a ninth tail. Sure enough, the cat grew a ninth tail.

The cat was very surprised and asked, "Why are you helping me? I didn't help you."

The young scholar said: His ancestor met a cat that could help people realize their wishes more than 200 years ago. The cat helped him realize his wish. The ancestor was grateful for the cat's help and asked us, the descendants, to stay in this dilapidated temple, wait for the cat, and help it realize its wish! "
