Berserk, Total War: Second Son of Nobles

Chapter 6 Midland's No. 1 Assaulter John

After John dealt with the external contact issues, he began to click on the recruitment interface to see who he could recruit.

recruit:

Recruit farmers: Number: 100, recruitment fee 1 gold, maintenance fee 1 (maintenance fee can be waived after having enough houses)

Recruiting Spearmen: 100 people, recruitment cost 2 gold, maintenance cost 1

Civilian Archers: 100 people, recruitment cost 3 gold, maintenance cost 1 (after all, they have to carry a bow and a sword)

Scout Cavalry: Number of people: 50, recruitment cost 4 gold coins, maintenance cost 2 (even horses need maintenance)

……

Finally, there are some soldiers that can be recruited. Although they are the weakest type of soldiers, they are much stronger than those low-level hired soldiers.

Although these soldiers are relatively weak, they are more than enough to defend the city, especially the farmers, who are the foundation of manpower and can be used to manage the opened fields outside the castle.

So John sent two teams of peasants to each city, one team of conscripted spearmen and one team of civilian archers. These farmers would also serve as second-line personnel to assist the army in attacking during wartime.

Next was the scout cavalry. John recruited two teams to be responsible for communications between castles and patrolling the outskirts of the forest to detect enemy forces.

For the next month, John has been improving the city defense, training the army, and then reporting to General Conseil every Sunday. Judging from Conseil's letters, Midland's army is simply a bunch of idiots. Just take the war that just took place this week, Midland had 8 troops against Yoda's 6, and was directly defeated. Midland's soldiers are about to go up the mountain to fight guerrilla warfare. It's not anyone else's fault. Midland just happened to catch up with the ascension of the new king this year, and the situation is not stable. It will take some time before the king sends troops. Moreover, this time Yoda is equipped with artillery and heavy cavalry regiments, while Midland is just some light infantry and light cavalry. Basically, they are finished if they encounter Yoda's main force.

"The current battle situation is very unfavorable to Midland. If Midland continues to lose like this, it will retreat directly to the vicinity of the capital."

"Wait, if we fight near the capital, who will pay me?" John thought to himself.

"We must do something to delay the enemy or redirect their attack."

Johannesburg - Conference Hall

John pointed to several Yoda towns and villages on the east side of the forest and said to the officers: "Attack these villages and towns, and then harass the Yoda patrols around them. If there are too many of them, retreat to the forest, and if there are too few, attack them. You can plunder the Yoda caravans and take as much stuff as you can from the caravans."

"No problem. After all, that's what we did before. We will make sure to complete the task."

So in the autumn of 1444, taking advantage of the autumn harvest in the Yoda Empire, John led his troops in three groups to raid the Yoda villages and towns along the way. In order to ensure the smooth progress of the mission, John hired a large number of rogue knights.

Rogue knights are the jackals of war. Although they are called knights, they are just a group of cavalrymen who are dedicated to fighting and are good at harassment tactics, burning, killing and looting. Some of them even call themselves knights. They have no noble blood and are even more mixed than wandering knights. But they can still rob and evacuate quickly.

Of course, John still let each unit have a general to manage. The northern route was led by Bald Charlie, an old member of the thieves. Bald Charlie, as the name suggests, is a bald man, 1 meters tall, and those big meteor hammers are so powerful that it took several horses to lead him to charge. The southern route was led by One-Eyed Hank, who was also a member of the thieves. He was blind in one eye when he came out, but he was a first-class archer and could lead troops to fight. John gave each of them three teams of wandering knights, five teams of rogue knights, and three teams of thieves. According to the plan, when attacking towns and villages, the thieves would destroy the defensive facilities, the wandering knights would rush into the city to fight after the city gates were destroyed, the rogue knights would block Yoda's reinforcements and scout the enemy outside, and finally the thieves would enter the city to loot property and supplies.

Fandi Town, a town on the western border of the Yoda Empire

The soldier who woke up in the morning saw a white light on the horizon. Based on his years of military experience, he judged that it was a group of cavalry charging at a very fast speed. He was so scared that he ran back to the town without saying a word, closed the gate, and woke up the dozing soldier on the city wall and asked him to report to the lord quickly.

The Lord of Fandi Town had just washed up when the guard knocked on the door and frightened him so much that he almost drank his mouthwash.

"How do you work?" The lord was very displeased.

"A group of cavalry is coming from the west of the town, and there are a lot of them," the guard said quickly.

"Cavalry?" The Lord thought. Although the army of Midland was basically on the battlefield in the south, in order to prevent any accidents, the Lord arranged for several scouts to ride horses to other lords for help, and he himself climbed the town wall.

The town's wall is called a wall, but in fact it is just a lot of wooden houses and a few lookout towers, about 6 meters high. Standing on the lookout tower, the lord can see the entire picture of the army.

The cavalrymen were not dressed like those of Midlan or Yoda, but more like bandits. There were only about 50 of them, and they had no uniform equipment.

"Another bunch of peasants, coming to rob us in Yoda," the lord thought. It is very common to see bandits in times of war, but basically they only rob some villages. I don't know why the God of Light is looking for death today, and dares to come to my territory and make trouble.

"Hey, where did you come from, bastards? How dare you come here to rob me? Do you want to taste my bow and arrows?" the lord shouted in an extremely angry tone.

"We didn't just come out of nowhere, Your Excellency." A cavalryman took off his hat and saluted. "And if you call us bastards again, we will kick your ass with our iron boots after we invade."

"How dare you! I can stay here until reinforcements arrive." The lord shouted angrily.

After shouting, the lord thought to himself, why don't these bandits say what they want? In the past, the bandits always asked for money and food. If you can beat them, you beat them, and if you can't, you give them. But why do they start to besiege the city without saying anything now?

"Forget about it. Let's just stay here and talk about it. They can't keep surrounding him forever."

Then, it was 10 o'clock in the afternoon. A group of people came from the west of the town. There were so many of them that the soldiers guarding the city saw them and quickly reported to the lord.

The lord was enjoying his meal when the guard suddenly opened the door, scaring him so much that he almost choked to death on his food.

"What happened this time!" the lord yelled at the guards.

"Another group of people came from the west, and they seem to be in the same group as them." The guard replied quickly.

"Sweetheart! You are not allowed to wash or eat, right? I want to see where this bastard came from. How dare he come here and mess with me twice?" The lord was furious. He put on his armor and quickly went up to the observation deck.

As soon as the lord climbed up to the watchtower and took a look, he was so frightened that his heart almost jumped out of his throat. He saw a force of about a thousand people outside, including infantry, archers, cavalry, and even a military band. They were marching in unison outside the town. The leading man was wearing knight armor and sitting on a black horse. He was dressed neatly, and there were more than a dozen cavalry guards on each side.

Seeing this situation, the lord hurriedly asked: "Where are you from, please tell me your name and what misunderstanding may exist between us."

"Misunderstanding?" The visitor laughed heartily upon hearing this voice, and then said: "I am John, the first commando of Midland!"
