Chapter 135 A Brief History of the Yellow River Management

Li Ranran reopened the 13th station video a few days later. As soon as she entered the homepage, she saw a beautiful picture of mountains and rivers, but the title was different:

[A brief history of Yellow River management]

(The three-dimensional earth shows the "Mother River" Yellow River, with place names marked.)

In order to control floods, Dayu mainly adopted the method of "opening up the nine rivers to connect to the four seas, and dredging the ditches to connect to the rivers", that is, dredging the main river channels, and guiding the floods and waterlogging that overflowed the riverbed into the sea.

Emperor Wu of Han was the first emperor to personally supervise the management of the Yellow River. In the third year of Yuanguang (133 BC), the Yellow River broke through the Huzi River in Puyang to the south. Prime Minister Tian Fen said, "The breaking of rivers is a matter of nature. It is not easy to block them with human power. Blocking them may not be in accordance with nature."

In the second year of Yuanfeng (109 BC), Emperor Wu of Han personally visited the breach at Huzikou and ordered his attendants, from generals down, to carry firewood and earth to plug the breach. With the joint efforts of the emperor and the people, the breach was finally plugged.

By the end of the Western Han Dynasty, the Yellow River was in serious condition. Three years after Wang Mang established the country, the Yellow River broke its banks in Wei County. The Yellow River, which originally flowed northeast, changed its course to flow eastward and southward, flowing in Henan and Shandong for decades. The main water flow entered the sea in Shandong, thus forming a large area of the Yellow River flooding area, which was also an important factor leading to the rapid destruction of the Wang Mang Dynasty.

In the 69th year of Yongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty ( AD), the Yellow River burst in Henan, causing the river to move southward, bringing great disaster to the people along the river. Emperor Ming of Han sent Wang Jing to Henan to control the flood. Wang Jing dug mountains and hills, straightened bends, dredged shallows, reinforced dangerous sections, and built double dams to release the Yellow River water from the upstream sluice of the inner embankment, pass through the outer embankment, and then flow back to the Yellow River from the downstream sluice. At the same time, "a sluice gate every ten miles" was set up on the Bian Canal to allow water to be injected in a more orderly manner, thus effectively preventing the occurrence of breaches.

Wang Jing's flood control was quite effective, and he was promoted by Emperor Ming of Han to be the river bank supervisor. According to historical records, after Wang Jing's control, the Yellow River has not experienced any major breaches or major diversions for more than 800 years.

<Those who are good at governing a country must first control water. “When the Yellow River is calm, the world will be at peace”>

<The problem that every unified dynasty has to face is to control the Yellow River, and only a unified dynasty has the ability to control the river>

<A history of the Yellow River is half of the history of China [sigh]>

<Thirty years on the east side of the river, thirty years on the west side of the river, that is, the Yellow River. The Yellow River has changed its course many times in history>

<The Yellow River has a high sediment content, which can easily cause river siltation and flooding>

<The riverbed is high and has a lot of silt, so it will burst at a certain level>

<During the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, the country's finances were exhausted due to years of war with the Xiongnu. This flood was at least half of the cause, which seriously hindered the national strength of the Han Dynasty>

<Is Tian Fu an idiot? ? ?>

<Wang Jing's success was undoubtedly due to his meeting a very wise monarch. Emperor Ming of Han strongly supported him. It was too expensive to dredge the Yellow River...>

<Wang Jing’s management of the Yellow River has benefited the present and future generations.>

<Thinking of someone’s Grand Canal, and seeing that the same large project was done very well by others [eating melon]>

<Alas, most of the trees along the Yellow River have been cut down, and soil erosion is serious>

<It seems that it was not until the Yuan and Ming dynasties that it was determined that the key to controlling the Yellow River lies in controlling sand, not water>

<Wang Jing's method is also to clear the sand, and it is stipulated that it should be cleared every few years>

......

I didn't know Wang Jing before. I didn't expect that Emperor Ming of Han was such a monarch. The more Li Ranran watched the video, the more she felt that it was not easy to control the Yellow River. Thanks to New China.

The video showed the Yellow River flooding, and the people along the river had nowhere to hide. They lost their houses, food, and even their lives...

----

Han Dynasty, the fourth year of Yuanshou

"It's my fault."

Liu Che felt guilty when he looked at the video on the light screen showing the flooding of the Yellow River and the tragic situation along the river.

At first, people were sent to repair the breach in the third year of Yuanguang, but every time they blocked the breach, it would be washed away. Prime Minister Tian Pan said: The breach of the Yellow River is the will of heaven, and it should not be blocked by human power. Blocking it may not be in line with heaven's will. So they gave up trying to block the breach.

Liu Che was busy fighting the Huns at that time, so he gave up on controlling the flood.

"Guangmu is right. When the Yellow River is calm, the world is at peace." Liu Che was still frightened by Guangmu's comment [Floods account for at least half of the country's financial depletion... and seriously dragged down the Han Dynasty's national strength].

At the morning court the next day, Liu Che asked everyone to discuss the events of the third year of Yuanguang.

The ministers also understood that His Majesty was preparing to deal with the breach in the gourd again.

Ji An and Zheng were the ministers who were in charge of flood control at the time, so they stepped forward and said, "We are willing to repair the breached river and will not allow the people to be displaced again and will not disappoint Your Majesty."

Wei Qing and other generals were puzzled. If Your Majesty wanted to solve the problem, it would cost a lot of manpower and financial resources. Should we continue to fight against the Huns?

Liu Che had thought it over carefully. The exposure of the light curtain meant that the court could not do nothing, otherwise the people would complain. As for the Huns, Liu Che also learned from the light curtain that it would take more than one generation to completely solve the problem, so he should not act too hastily. Moreover, because of the light curtain, there were great differences among the Huns, and the number of Huns who returned to the Han Dynasty increased greatly.

Eastern Han Dynasty, the 9th year of Yongping

During the reign of Emperor Ming of Han, the emperor, his ministers, and the people went from fear to doubt and finally to calm acceptance when a ball of light suddenly appeared before them.

A line of words suddenly appeared in the light ball in front of him: [A Brief History of the Yellow River Management], and then the screen appeared, and the sound also sounded.

Emperor Ming of Han, Liu Zhuang, and his ministers were excited when they saw the words.

“It really is a miracle.”

"Can the Yellow River flooding be solved?"

......

It starts with Dayu, and talks about flood control during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, as well as the period of Wang Mang during which they hated each other the most. Finally, Liu Zhuang heard his own reign title [the twelfth year of Yongping], and then [...a breach occurred in Henan area...].

A minister who was quick to react said: "This is a prophecy from heaven, and we should prepare for it in advance."

Liu Zhuang also realized that it was still the ninth year of Yongping, and there was three years to prepare. As for Wang Jing, he was recommended for his ability to control water in the early years of Yongping, and he and Wang Wu successfully dredged the Junyi Canal.

Liu Zhuang also felt honored by Guangmu's praise of Wang Jing.

So Emperor Ming of Han refers to himself? Ming is a beautiful posthumous title. Liu Zhuang was ecstatic, yes, happy.
