Clouds and mountain tops

Chapter 18 Xiezhi

Two members of the Alchemy Department were picking herbs, while the others were just watching over them and guarding against monsters.

Bailiqi was walking around, continuing to explore the place where the snakes had just appeared.

Bailiqi found a small hole. It was very small, only the size of a fist, but it seemed to have some depth.

He was observing there, and suddenly, a small head popped out of the hole, but then shrank back in an instant, as if it was a little scared.

Bailiqi had nothing to do anyway, so he just waited there, but that guy was very patient and didn't come out.

Baili Qi then used the earth escape technique and guarded the entrance of the cave.

The little guy finally couldn't bear it anymore and continued to stick his head out. But as soon as his head popped out, he saw Bailiqi's face.

The face was expressionless and peaceful, as if it was asleep.

The little guy touched it with his paw, and Bailiqi pretended not to feel it. The guy got bolder and used his two paws to touch the face, but Bailiqi still didn't move.

The guy was brave enough to touch the face with his four paws. At this time, Bailiqi said,

"Who are you and why are you touching my face?"

"Who are you? Why are you here?" The guy could actually speak, and instead of answering the question, he asked back.

"My name is Bailiqi, I came here to collect herbs. What's your name?" Bailiqi said softly. Although the little guy looked a little fierce, he didn't seem to have a fierce personality.

"My name is Xiezhi. My mom and dad were all eaten by those snakes. They used magic to make me smaller and made me hide in this cave. I am really hungry and have no choice but to eat something." The guy replied.

"Your father and mother know magic, but those snakes are not that powerful. How could they be eaten by snakes?" Bailiqi asked curiously.

"Dad and Mom know magic, but they were injured in a duel with their archenemy and fell on this island. They were not paying attention and were bitten by those giant snakes. Mom and Dad fought desperately to save me. They used their last bit of energy to cast a spell to make me smaller and hid me in this cave. They also cast invisibility so that I can turn invisible and come out to look for food. But this spell has a time limit. Once the time is up, the invisibility spell will fail." Xiezhi explained.

"Then can you grow bigger yourself?" Bailiqi asked.

"Not yet. This spell is very powerful. It will not fail unless my own realm is raised. This is also a protection for me. They are afraid that I will not survive without the protection of this cave. The invisibility spell is slightly weaker and has a shorter validity period." Xiezhi explained.

"So do you plan to stay on this island?" Bailiqi asked.

"I have nowhere else to go." Xiezhi replied.

"Then are you willing to follow me?" Bailiqi loves this little guy very much. It is currently alone on the island and there may be other unpredictable dangers in the future, so he plans to take it with him.

"That's great, but I'm afraid I will implicate you. I have many enemies." Xiezhi expressed his concerns.

"Who are your enemies?" Bailiqi was a little curious.

"Since I was born, I have been fleeing everywhere with my parents. I have hardly had a single day of peace. I am either on the way to escape or preparing to escape. The enemies I have seen include peacocks, golden roosters, golden crows, wind cats, etc.," Xiezhi described.

"You have quite a few enemies. But don't be afraid, I will protect you!" Bailiqi said.

"That's great, little brother!" Unexpectedly, this little guy was quite sweet and immediately called me little brother.

"Then you will follow me from now on! Tell me what you want to eat and come to me when you are full." Bailiqi just ordered.

"Okay, wait for me for a moment, I'll go find something to eat." Xiezhi replied.

Not long after, Xiezhi came back, and packed some food for its rations. Bailiqi saw that it was just some grass, which was plentiful in Pie. There was no need to worry about food.

Baili Qi put it into the independent space of the bead string and let it practice there. Anyway, this guy wouldn't consume many spirit stones.

There are really a lot of medicinal herbs here. The two girls from the alchemy department spent a whole day collecting them before they finished the work.

This mission was successfully completed. Bailiqi gained a lot from this mission. He could get a total of 17 contribution points, which was equivalent to his living expenses for years. This was quite considerable.

In the last departmental competition, Mr. Zhou had a contribution value of points, and he was so happy that he almost cried. Because he could buy a lot of wine.

If all of it is used to exchange for Spirit Stones, it can be exchanged for 42 Spirit Stones. Bailiqi is very satisfied with this result.

I earned so much contribution points in one task, and this is just a very ordinary task! In the future, when my ability improves, I can also do more difficult tasks. The contribution points of those big tasks are dozens or hundreds of times that of these ordinary tasks. It’s really cool to earn them!

As for the little guy, Bailiqi didn't treat him as a treasure, but as a companion. Because this guy was amazing, he could understand human language and even speak human language. I don't know why he was so strange!

"Master Huiyan, have you heard of Xiezhi?" Bailiqi wanted to know more about Xiezhi, so he asked the master.

"Xiezhi?" Master Huiyan asked with some doubt and confirmed with Bailiqi.

"Yes, Xiezhi, have you seen or heard of it?" Bailiqi asked.

"Xiezhi, it seems to be a mythical beast. Does it really exist in this world?" said Master Huiyan.

"Mythical beast? How mythical? Does Xiezhi have many natural enemies?" Bailiqi asked in surprise. But in his heart,

"That little guy could actually be a divine beast?"

"No way? Would a divine beast have many enemies?"

"It is indeed a mythical beast. I have heard that the Xiezhi can be as big as a cow or as small as a sheep. It is similar to a Qilin, with thick black hair all over its body, bright eyes, and usually a horn on its forehead. But I have never seen it with my own eyes." said Master Huiyan.

"It is said that the Xiezhi possesses great intelligence and can understand human speech and human nature. With its eyes wide open, it can distinguish right from wrong, good from evil, loyalty from treachery. When it finds a treacherous official, it will knock him down with its horns and then eat him. Being able to distinguish right from wrong is a symbol of bravery and justice." Master Huiyan continued.

The Xiezhi was sleeping at this time. Bailiqi lifted up the Xiezhi, showed it to Master Huiyan, and asked the master,

"Master, take a look at this little fellow. Does he look a bit like the mythical beast you mentioned?"

"There are indeed some elephants, but their bodies are a little too small. The bodies of Xiezhi are not that small." Master Huiyan said.
