Traveling through ancient times to survive

Chapter 20: Dispute in the Old House

Mrs. Zhao only grasped the key points of the first half of the sentence. Her face changed drastically: "How dare you curse my son not to pass the exam! You are just spewing shit! I will tear your mouth to pieces!"

Mrs. Zhao stood up and rushed towards Mrs. Zhao San. Mrs. Zhao San felt a little regretful as soon as she finished speaking. Now, she was insulted mercilessly by her eldest sister-in-law, and immediately threw away the slight guilt in her heart.

She resisted and angrily said: "You are the one who is full of shit! I can't tell you the truth when your precious son spends all his time drinking and partying and doesn't spend a penny on studying!"

When Mrs. Zhao heard this, her scratching became more intense. Mrs. Zhao San also became angry and started to be ruthless. Mrs. Zhao, who was older, was no match for the younger and stronger Mrs. Zhao San, and gradually fell into a disadvantage.

She called for help: "Zhao Chengshan! Are you dead? Just watching people curse your son and beat your wife?"

Mrs. Zhao was not willing to be outdone: "Boss! Can't you see that the eldest brother's family is teaming up to bully others?"

The two women's clothes were in disarray, and Zhao Chengshan was in a dilemma, not knowing whether to retreat or not. Zhao Chenghe, on the other hand, kept an eye on his elder brother's movements, ready to stop them at any time.

Seeing that the battle was about to escalate, Zhao Yuanmu could no longer hide, so he had to stop them in a stern tone: "Alright! Stop it! We are brothers from the same family, it's shameful to fight like this! Go back to your rooms and think about it!"

The two of them obediently stopped, snorted at each other, and stood up and went back to their rooms to tidy up their clothes and hair.

Zhao Yuanmu first criticized his youngest son: "Third son, go back and teach your wife what to say and what not to say!"

He hit each of them with a stick and taught his eldest son a lesson: "Big brother, you should also talk to your wife. Her temper is getting worse and worse. We are all family. How can you fight over a disagreement?"

Zhao Chengshan nodded in agreement, while Zhao Chenghe remained silent.

Zhao Yuanmu was dissatisfied: "Third brother, are you deaf? Is this your attitude when your father talks to you?"

Zhao Chenghe lowered his head: "Yes, Dad, should our family sell grain now?"

Zhao Yuanmu rarely felt a trace of regret. Before the second child was separated, the family was harmonious. It was nothing like now, where they quarreled every few days over trivial matters, and the family was never at peace.

If I had known that the second son was blessed with a long life, I should not have listened to the eldest son's instigation and separated the second son to live alone. It was also the old woman's fault for being partial and not being able to manage the three sons in the family, otherwise the second son would not be so heartless now.

If Wang Mei knew that her father-in-law had such a shameless idea, she would definitely roll her eyes. After all, the original harmony and beauty were built on the blood and tears of the second wife's family. The second wife worked diligently to hunt and make money outside, so how could everyone care about these three melons and two dates? At home, Wang Mei and Zhao Qing worked hard to take care of the housework, and the others just talked a lot. They all had good tempers, so how could they quarrel?

In the old house, Zhao Yuanmu felt that Cheng'er's future was more important, so he made up his mind and said, "Sell it! Cheng'er will take the provincial examination in the first month of the year, so he can't delay it. Besides, we don't know whether this news is true or not."

Zhao Chenghe raised his head and refused in a firm tone: "I don't agree!"

Zhao Yuanmu's dignity as the head of the family was offended, and he was shocked and angry: "This is outrageous! It's not your turn to be the master of this family!"

Zhao Chenghe was worried, but still stubbornly retorted: "Anyway, I don't agree. You can't sell our third room's share if you want to sell it."

Zhao Yuanmu was so angry that his face turned red. "What do you mean by your third room's share? You want to divide the family property too? Your mother and I are not dead yet!"

Zhao Chengshan quickly reached out his hand to pat his father on the back to comfort him, while he accused the third brother: "Third brother, how could you have such an idea? Look how angry Dad is! Hurry up and admit your mistake to Dad."

Zhao Chenghe rarely said in a tough tone: "What kind of good man are you? Are you hypocritical? The one who benefits the most is your eldest wife, so of course you are obedient. Your son sits in the academy and eats and wears well, but my son has to work in the fields at a young age. Who would treat them as brothers when they go out? People who don't know would think it's the young master with servants."

Zhao Chengshan was so angry that he said, "Nonsense! When my son passes the imperial examination, won't you three branches benefit from it?"

Zhao Chenghe just laughed sarcastically. Seeing that the two brothers were almost at odds with each other, Zhao Yuanmu looked unhappy and said, "Third brother, do you think the same as what your wife just said?"

Zhao Chenghe laughed out of anger: "Is my wife wrong? Cheng Ge'er came back and saw me as his uncle without even saying hello, and he still took advantage of me? It's so funny!"

What Zhao Chenghe said was true, and Zhao Chengshan had nothing to say. His beloved son did look down on the farmers in the village, but as his father, he did not think it was a serious matter.

Zhao Chenghe saw that his eldest brother was speechless, but still not satisfied, he tore his face and continued to rant: "Second brother was injured for Cheng'er, but in the end, second brother has been separated from the family for several months, has he ever come to visit? As the eldest brother, you were afraid of being dragged down, so you quickly joined forces with parents to separate them. Now it seems to be a good thing, second brother's family jumped out of the fire pit early."

Zhao Chenghe became more and more sober as he spoke: "I finally understand that we are all ungrateful and can't be relied on by anyone."

Zhao Chengshan's honest appearance was exposed, and he said in a crazy look: "Didn't you agree to separate the second brother? Wasn't the second brother good to you? Didn't you go to see him?"

These days, Zhao Chenghe finally understood his second brother's hardship. He recalled that when he was a child, his second brother always stood up for him when others bullied him. At that time, his family was poor, and he wanted to eat meat so badly. When his second brother found out, he went up the mountain to catch a bird, fell and broke his head, but still said to him with a smile on his face: "Don't worry, brother, you will have meat soon."

What was he thinking at that time? He had clearly made up his mind to repay his second brother, so how could he forget it when he grew up? He really inherited the blood of his parents, and like his eldest brother, selfishness and indifference flowed in his bones.

Only the second brother is not like their family. No wonder no matter how much the second brother tries to please his parents, they don't like him. The second brother should be separated. The cold-blooded people in the Zhao family should sink together and should not drag innocent people to hell.

Zhao Chenghe knew that he was extremely wrong and he didn't have the face to ask his second brother for forgiveness, so he could only try not to disturb him.

He said in a self-deprecating tone: "Yes, I admit that I am ungrateful and selfish, but I am not stupid. If you want my third wife to be like your second wife before, to be a stepping stone for your first wife and then kick her away when she is no longer useful, don't even think about it!"

The two of them were arguing with each other, and Zhao Yuanmu felt uncomfortable. He had worked so hard to raise the children, and the second child hated not recognizing his parents. Now the eldest and the third child were about to become enemies. His anger was gone, and he looked dejected: "Third child, do you really have to split up now?"

Zhao Chenghe achieved his goal and pretended to take a step back: "Dad, you don't have to divide the family, but you can't just give all the money to Cheng'er without asking for my opinion. And Cheng'er has to write a guarantee to our third room, saying that he can only study because of the two rooms selling everything to support him, and he is not allowed to abandon our third room when he becomes rich in the future."
