Pike, one of the Iron Islands, was once a narrow strip of land that jutted out to sea like a sword, but over time, erosion gradually split it into three islands.

The Iron Islands are home to a brutal seafaring people who call themselves the Ironborn. Some say the Iron Islands were named for the rich iron ore found on the islands, but the Ironborn say the islands were named for the tough and unyielding nature of their people.

Islanders often say that the captain of every ship is a king, so the Iron Islands are also known as the "Land of Kings".
