Legends of Runeterra
Chapter 831 Overtime, to be made up tomorrow
It was midday on the island, and Vigus had just woken up from a deep sleep the night before. The black fog that covered the Shadow Isles was particularly thick today, creating a gloomy atmosphere that suited her perfectly.
The terrifying army of ghosts surrounded her, their screams and roars combined into a chilling chorus, hoping that she would be in the mood to join them on such a particularly dreary day.
"You want to play again?" Vigus sighed, "Well. Then I'll play with you. But this time it's time for someone else to be the gravedigger."
Behind her, Vigus heard her shadow volunteering.
"Sombre, if you're going to be a gravedigger, that means I have to be a gravedigger too."
The shadow looked at her with pitiful, pleading eyes.
"Ah, whatever. Although this is extremely stupid from beginning to end, let me and Black Shadow be the gravediggers. Everyone else, die quickly."
The shadow covered his eyes with his hands and began to count from one to one hundred, while the ghost army fled in all directions, looking for hiding places among the boulders and ruins of the island.
Vigus didn't cover her eyes. She saw something very strange bobbing up and down in the mist in the distance, gradually emerging. It looked like... a pair of pointed ears?
"Xiao Miao Miao!" A voice came from the bottom of the ears, "Are you there, Xiao Ya Dan?"
"Oh, that's bad," Vigus said dejectedly, "Don't tell me it's..."
The ears moved up and down as they moved closer to her. Finally, the owner of the ears appeared. An elderly yordle stood before Vigus, arms spread out in ecstasy.
"Found you, little girl!" he said.
Vigus looked at the familiar face with disgust. "Uncle Milti, why are you here?"
"What do you mean I'm here? Can't an adult Yodel come to see his little Miaomiao?" Uncle Milti spoke with an unyielding cheerful tone.
"Don't call me that."
Vigus noticed that her playmates were emerging from their hiding places one by one, obviously very curious about the new visitor.
"I'm very busy now," Vigus said to her uncle, "Can you please tell me what you want to say and come back as soon as possible?"
Mirti's face fell, and the stiff smile gradually turned into solemn sadness. "Okay. I won't lie to you, Xiao Miaomiao - your parents are not in good condition."
Vigus rolled her eyes so hard that it looked like her eyeballs were about to pop out. "Uh, what happened to them?"
Why did Uncle Mirti care about her parents? He was not her real uncle.
"They never told you, but... they were worried about you!" Uncle Miltie said. "You left home and moved to... a spooky ditch. And you're hanging around with ghosts. You have to go home."
"No. Absolutely not."
"Please, Xiao Miaomiao."
"I do not."
"Just go home and check in? Let them know you're okay."
"I do not."
"Just a blink of an eye? In and out."
"No! Go away." said Vigus.
Mirti frowned at her resistance, but after a moment, his warm smile returned and his eyes sparkled.
"Well, it seems I only have one thing left to do..." the older yordle said, twisting his fingertips and waving his hands to draw a circle. A huge rainbow portal opened in front of him. "Let's get going. Your parents are about to sit down for tea. If we hurry, we can join them!"
Wiggus looked reluctant as Uncle Milti pulled her towards the portal. She used her brain and raised a hand to summon a thick black shadow under their feet, extinguishing the brightly colored portal. "If you think I will walk into that door obediently, you are even more stupid than I thought."
Uncle Milti raised half of his thick eyebrows, looking puzzled. "But, Xiao Miaomiao, look around. This place is only suitable for dead things."
"How fresh. Otherwise, why would I come here?" said Vigus. "All living people are annoying. Yodel are the most annoying. The colorful ones make me sick and want to vomit. There are not so many disgusting things here."
Uncle Mirti was speechless, completely shocked by the girl's words. Then he began to understand, and his eyes sparkled again. "Oh, oh, I know what's going on. You've been away from Bandlewood for too long! You've lost your Yodel spirit. You just need to go home and stay for a few days, and then you'll be as fresh as a rosehip!"
He flicked his fingers, summoning the rainbow portal once again.
Vigus felt her soul empty as she realized her eternally tragic fate: she was a Yordle, always would be a Yordle, and so would be forever tortured by their indelible passion.
unless……
An idea occurred to Vigus. She almost laughed, as she realized that this might be a way to escape this torture. She quickly suppressed her smile, summoned her most genuine depression, and looked down at the ground without reservation. "What's the point, Uncle Milti?"
"What's the point, little Vivi?"
"Everything. Bandle City, the Yordle people... life, what's the point?" She looked up and saw her uncle's smile fade.
"The meaning of life?" he said to himself. "Well... isn't it..."
Uncle was speechless for a moment. Seeing this, Vigus immediately answered the question for him. "Look, we are all just random magic groups. Who we are, what we do, what kind of family we have - these are not decided by ourselves. We are just drifting with the flow, like dead leaves, and we can't control anything."
Uncle Milti's face showed a strange determination. "Oh, I don't think so. For example, we can make others happy! We all have the ability to do so!"
"Even if there is. But people's happiness never lasts forever, does it?"
Vigus could clearly feel that her words had put Uncle Milty into a vortex of doubt. His lively long ears gradually drooped.
"It's the same with everything in this world," she went on. "Happiness, birds, trees, beetles . . . rainbows—none of these things last. You'd say that transience is the meaning of their existence. They pass by, they fade away, and then they die. Then you can ask these big guys."
Vigus looked at the ghosts, who poked their heads out from their hiding places, revealing their dry and gloomy faces. When she turned her head again, she almost missed the bitterness on the corners of his mouth.
"I don't think... I've ever... thought about it this way." said my uncle.
