Female Farming Pond Fish
Chapter 5 Building a House
The next morning, Chen's mother took Chi Xiaotong to the village chief's house. The village chief was having breakfast, and his husband opened the door and welcomed the two in.
After explaining their purpose, the village chief asked them to wait for a while, ate a quick meal, and took the two of them to look for people. The three of them went early, and many people had not yet gone to the fields. When they heard the village chief asking for help, they were a little hesitant, but when they heard that the Chen family was willing to provide meals, they all agreed.
Finally, they found more than ten people, and Chen's mother took a few people to the town on a bullock cart to sell the things they needed. The village chief took Chi Xiaotong to choose a site.
The place we finally chose was a little far from the village, but not too far away, and we could see everything. It was closer to the mountain and closer to the town.
After choosing a place, the village chief went to get the land deed. The expenses here had to be paid by the village chief first. Chi Xiaotong also said in advance that she would pay back whatever money she spent later.
After buying the things, everyone started to work. Chi Xiaotong didn't know much, so he could only help out.
Fortunately, the thatched house was easy to build and was basically completed in about four days. On the fifth day, it was reinforced and repaired and ready for living.
Thatched houses are relatively simple and cheap. This house is even simpler, with only one bedroom and a kitchen.
According to the local custom, after a new house is built, the first meal to be cooked must be meat. Chi Xiaotong had no choice but to borrow another 300 coins from Chen's mother to buy meat and vegetables and treat the villagers to a meal.
The house had just been built and there was nothing in it; even the dishes and chopsticks were borrowed from the Chen family.
By the time I sent everyone away and returned the things, it was completely dark when I finished cleaning up. After washing up, I lay on the brand new bed, covered with the new quilt that Chen's father had made these days.
The house was a bit shabby, but it belonged to her, and she felt at ease living in it. Therefore, despite the foreign debt of nearly thirty taels of silver, this night was still the most peaceful night that Chi Xiaotong had slept since she traveled through time.
The next day, Chi Xiaotong didn't get up until she was full of sleep. The sun was already bright. It was the first time in this strange world that Chi Xiaotong slept in.
Stretching, Chi Xiaotong thought, I really still like to sleep in.
After washing up, I heated up some leftover food from yesterday and ate before heading up the mountain.
The backpack was given to me by the Chen family. I have to work hard to make money!
Chi Xiaotong calculated that he owed the village chief ten taels of silver, five taels of silver to the Li family in the village, and less than fifteen taels, a little more than fourteen taels, so he would call it fifteen taels.
After searching for an hour on the mountain, she only found a few mushrooms. Chi Xiaotong knew that all the mushrooms here had been picked up by the villagers. If she wanted to pick more, she had to go further in.
Chi Xiaotong thought about it and decided to go inside and be careful. After making the decision, he did not delay outside and went straight inside after making a mark.
There were more and more mushrooms around. Chi Xiaotong didn't dare to pick all of them, so she picked the ones she knew and the ones that looked good. Since she was here, she had to pick the good ones.
Chi Xiaotong stayed in the mountains all day, and when he was hungry or thirsty, he would find some wild fruits to eat.
There were few ripe fruits, so Chi Xiaotong picked the ripe ones and ate mushrooms at the same time. She was not hungry at the end of the day.
When Chi Xiaotong came down the mountain in the evening, he picked up a basket full of mushrooms and was lucky enough to pick up more than 20 pheasant eggs.
It’s a pity that I didn’t catch the pheasant, but if I hadn’t startled the mother pheasant while picking mushrooms and caused it to fly away, I might not have been able to find and pick up these pheasant eggs.
When I got home, it was already dark. I put the mushrooms away, heated up the food, ate, washed up, and went to bed. There was really no entertainment in ancient times. Once it got dark, I had to go to bed.
The next morning, Chi Xiaotong got up early. In the past few days, Chi Xiaotong has developed the habit of going to bed early and getting up early. In her previous life, she was in her twenties and her work and rest schedule was always irregular. She liked to stay up late and go to bed early. Unexpectedly, after only a few days of traveling through time, she could wake up early without being called.
Alas, life forces us to do so!
While sighing, Chi Xiaotong heated up the last bit of food and ate it. He carried mushrooms and pheasant eggs and went to the town.
This time, I arrived earlier and got a good spot. After putting the items away, Chi Xiaotong started to hawk. After coming here twice, Chi Xiaotong was already very skilled.
"Mushrooms, fresh mushrooms. Pheasant eggs, delicious pheasant eggs!"
Chi Xiaotong shouted twice and someone came to ask: "How much are the pheasant eggs?"
"Pheasant eggs are two cents each." This is the price Chi Xiaotong had thought of long ago, one cent more expensive than a stupid chicken egg. After all, pheasant eggs are considered a rare commodity.
The man was very straightforward and took ten directly and paid twenty cents.
More and more people came to buy, and the mushrooms sold out much faster.
In the end, he sold twenty pheasant eggs for forty cents, and fourteen pounds of mushrooms for two hundred and ten cents. There were a few left over, and Chi Xiaotong didn't want to sell them, so he took them home to eat.
Chi Xiaotong went to the grain store and bought three dou of broken rice and five dou of brown rice, as well as pots, pans, and other daily necessities, and some seasonings, which were barely enough.
Finally, I left two coins and took a bullock cart home. When I got home, I looked at the pile of things and it finally felt like home. At least I had enough daily necessities, but after two days of hard work, I didn't have a penny left.
Chi Xiaotong went to the pond to take a bath again, and on the way back she met the boy, who was carrying firewood again. They met and even looked at each other. Chi Xiaotong felt that the boy seemed numb to life and had no vitality at all at his age.
The clothes and shoes on his body were all torn, and he lowered his head and walked away quickly after looking at each other. He looked very timid.
