On March 1941, 3, the 10th day of the second lunar month, the sun was getting warmer, and the muddy road surface was gradually drying and hardening due to the early spring thaw.

The 1st and 4th Regiments of the New 4th Division were dispatched. The 1st Regiment was responsible for attacking the stronghold, while the 4th Regiment took over the occupied areas to clear out the remaining enemies and maintain public order.

Shen Zizhong's regiment is no longer what it used to be. It has a cavalry battalion, a truck transport company, three infantry battalions, a special operations battalion, and an artillery battalion.

In addition to the previous conventional weapons, the addition of sixteen mountain cannons greatly increased the strength of the regiment.

After leaving Qingdao City, the team did not advance towards the peninsula, but went directly north to Pingdu, and then continued north from Pingdu to capture Laizhou, strategically dividing the peninsula.

The New Fourth Division occupied Pingdu, and the overseas Chinese on the peninsula began to evacuate. Ships shuttled around the ports of the peninsula. Some retreated to the northeast, and some went to the Korean Peninsula.

A battalion of the Japanese army was stationed in Laizhou, and there was a security regiment of the Imperial Army inside and outside the city. After a round of artillery bombardment, before the first regiment launched an attack, the security regiment turned against the Japanese. The first regiment watched and listened to the fierce gunfire in the city, and collectively looked at the special operations battalion that was preparing for battle nearby. The special operations battalion was also a little confused, because they did conduct infiltration and reconnaissance, but they did not do anything to persuade the Japanese to turn against the Japanese!

A regiment took advantage of its superior firepower and rushed into Laizhou City in ten minutes. The Imperial Army was badly suppressed, and one third of its one thousand troops were destroyed. There was no doubt that the enemy of my enemy was my friend. The New Fourth Division had several precedents of accepting puppet troops.

The Japanese army was dizzy after a round of comprehensive and precise mortar strikes. When the anti-aircraft machine guns and large-caliber heavy machine guns opened fire, the Japanese soldiers lay on the position with their hands raised in surrender.

Shen Zizhong had another raid to the east and had no time to deal with these things. He gave a wink to the newly defected commander of the Imperial Army, and then hundreds of remaining Japanese soldiers were rushed to the beach with their hands tied.

After taking Laizhou, the team continued to advance eastward. There was no difficulty as imagined. The Japanese army did not seem to intend to hold on and I did not plan to send reinforcements. In five days, the Special Operations Battalion of the 1st Regiment of the New Fourth Division took Chengshantou. Most of the Japanese troops evacuated in advance on merchant ships or warships, and there were not many actual fierce exchanges of fire.

At this point, the areas east of the Jinpu Line in Shandong Province, except for some cities that could not be divided, were all recovered. It was so easy that even Shen Honglie could hardly believe it, and even thought it was a conspiracy of the Japanese devils.

The recovery of the Shandong Peninsula caused some shock in the deep mountains of the southwest. The combat report of the New Fourth Division made it very clear that half of the 10,000 troops of the two reinforced regiments were responsible for follow-up and cleanup. In other words, 5,000 people occupied the Shandong Peninsula without any effort, which made a number of war zones somewhat tempted.

On March 3, the 15st Group Army cruising in the Dabie Mountains sent the th Army to launch a tentative attack, targeting Sui County northwest of Suizhou. The fundamental reason was that after seeing the battle report of the New Fourth Division, the various units had different ideas and decided to conduct a pilot project in the Dabie Mountains.

The 48th Army participated in a surprise attack on the Japanese artillery positions outside Zaoyang City. After replenishment after the war, it had been restored to 22,000 troops in two Type B divisions, and was equipped with eight mountain cannons and 24 mortars.

There was only one regiment of Japanese troops in Sui County, and their artillery consisted of only four mountain cannons and thirty-two indirect fire cannons. There was not much difference in the artillery of both sides, but the difference in troop strength was seven or eight times.

All war zones were watching this local battle, seemingly waiting to measure the changes in the gap between the Chinese and Japanese armies.

On the morning of the 15th, the th Army surrounded Sui County with lightning speed and began to bombard the Japanese troops stationed there. Although both sides had few artillery fire, they fought effectively.

At seven o'clock in the morning, the mountain artillery of both sides had been damaged and there was almost no movement. The 48th Army began the assault. Sui County had no city defense. The Japanese army built positions outside the county and set up bunkers at some important nodes.

The attack was not going smoothly. The mortars of both sides were fired back and forth, one side bombed the trenches, and the other side bombed the charging soldiers. Until 8:30 in the morning, the 48th Army still had not broken through the first trench of the Japanese army.

The two division commanders who commanded this attack were a little impatient. They both understood the purpose of this battle, and many people behind them were waiting to see the results.

The 48th Army formed two suicide squads and concentrated all light firepower to launch an assault at 9 a.m.

The Japanese army's firepower was not very strong, but their shooting was very accurate. The two suicide squads paid a huge casualties and rushed into the first trench of the Japanese army. The two sides engaged in a fierce fight. Just as the follow-up troops of the 48th Army followed up, the Japanese army's mortars, which had been hitting with little effect, fired 20 rounds of rapid-fire blocking shots.

By the time the National Army launched the new charge, the fighting in the trenches was over. There were almost no Japanese soldiers left alive, and there were almost no Chinese people left alive.

The Japanese lost a line of defense, but did not think of launching a counterattack to take it back. Instead, they held on to the second line of defense and waited for the National Army to continue attacking. News had already come from the Wuhan Command that the 48th Army had an ulterior motive for this attack. They would not have reinforcements, but no one would be allowed to give up resistance. Even if they died, they would drag a few enemies down with them.

At 9:30 in the morning, the soldiers of the 48th Army launched a second wave of assault under the cover of mortars, retreating 500 meters inward. The light and heavy firepower on the Japanese positions became much more concentrated, and some bunkers and stronghold buildings could threaten the charging Nationalist Army.

The 48th Army launched four charges in the morning. They reached the enemy trenches on the last charge and threw long-handled grenades into the trenches. Unfortunately, they were hit back by two bunkers that were suddenly exposed in the building behind them. Two Type 92 heavy machine guns and two Type 99 light machine guns prevented the breakthrough that was about to be achieved.

The 48th Army had no reinforcements, and the Japanese reinforcements that had also left Wuhan City also retreated. Both sides knew the situation very well. On the one hand, they hoped that their own people could successfully capture Sui County to give everyone peace of mind. On the other hand, they sent stern orders to the defenders, urging them to fight to the last soldier and mainly to eliminate the enemy. Even if only medics, nurses and wounded were left, they had to ambush and die together with the searching team.

At two o'clock in the afternoon, the 48th Army launched a new attack. Of the 22,000 troops, 6,000 had been lost in the morning. Although most of them were seriously wounded and only about 1,500 were killed, the number of those who had lost combat effectiveness was more than twice that of the defenders.

After four rounds of charges, the mortar shells were used up and they could only use light and heavy machine guns to cover the charge. The Japanese army concentrated its firepower at some key nodes and managed to repel the 48th Army's three attacks. The last time the soldiers of the 48th Army rushed forward, the Japs did not rush out of the trenches to engage in hand-to-hand combat, but withdrew from the trenches and ignited the explosives buried in advance.

boom! Boom boom boom!

The second trench was ablaze with flames, and the Nationalist troops who rushed up to fight suffered heavy casualties.
