At the foot of Liantai Mountain, the 2nd Company of the 2nd Battalion and the 1,000 troops of the Lunan Detachment also occupied both sides of the valley. The formation here was also a ditch sandwiched between two mountains. At 10 o'clock in the evening, the blocking position on the east side had been arranged, and the blocking position on the west side was still under construction.

The position was set up on Liantai Mountain instead of Tongluo Mountain, which had a more rugged terrain. The main consideration was that reinforcements might not come along the railway line. Once the mechanized attack came along the highway, the ambush on Tongluo Mountain would be useless.

At 9:50, the team members who went out for reconnaissance came back. About a regiment of Japanese troops had passed the Jingzi Slope and were expected to arrive in 20 minutes.

The company commander of the second company was Song Qingming, an old member who was one of the earliest members to join the Yimeng guerrillas. He had fought in dozens of battles, big and small. Although there was a regiment coming from the opposite side, he was not afraid at all.

"Notify the troops to be ready. Give the enemy a signal in ten minutes. When the explosion is heard, attack simultaneously. Have the reserve troops ready to fill any gaps immediately."

Song Qingming was not careless. He ambushed a regiment with 1,500 troops. He had to annihilate them while avoiding casualties as much as possible. The five minutes after the explosion were very important.

Ten minutes later, a signal was sent with a flashlight, and the other side stopped digging and all hid in the newly dug trenches. Fifteen minutes later, movement came from the north. The Japanese army had left Tongluo Mountain and accelerated their march. The four columns became eight columns, and they rushed southward on both sides of the railway.

The search team arrived, also a small team, and chaotic gunfire rang out. It was more of a warning to the sniping troops than a reconnaissance. The troops behind were moving faster and faster, forcing them to shoot while running.

boom! Boom boom boom!

The demolition expert detonated the bomb, and the rubble on both sides of the railway surged up and splashed towards the Japanese troops marching quickly on both sides.

All, all, all, all!

Explosions sounded and mortars opened fire. The Second Company had twelve mortars, and the Lunan Detachment on the opposite side had eight. Twenty rounds were fired at high speed, and the shells rained down on the valley in the middle.

boom! Boom boom boom!

The rocket soldiers opened fire, pulled the trigger, and the rockets whizzed into the Japanese camp.

boom! Boom boom boom!

The Japanese troops on both sides of the railway suffered heavy losses due to the three-level heavy firepower attack. The explosions were so deafening that they did not even notice the bullets coming at them.

The Second Company of the Second Battalion carried eight anti-aircraft machine guns, eight of which were Type 92s, and only six Type 99 light machine guns. The firepower of the Lunan Detachment on the opposite side was even more powerful, with half of the heavy firepower of the 8,000 troops, including more than 20 Type 92 heavy machine guns, and more than 40 Type 99 light machine guns and Czech light machine guns. On the two-kilometer front, nearly a hundred lines of fire madly fired at the Japanese troops on the hillside.

Without a place to hide, it was impossible to organize an effective counterattack. Wherever the Japanese troops gathered, they would receive special attention. The Japanese troops could only lie on the railway line and shoot to both sides. They were suppressed by snipers and light and heavy machine guns. The mortars could not be set up, and the light and heavy machine guns would stop after a few shots. It was difficult to cause casualties to the soldiers in the trenches with the Type 38 rifle alone.

After the mortars fired twenty shells, they began to focus their attacks. Wherever there was heavy firepower and wherever the gathering began, there would be artillery shells to greet them. The rocket soldiers loaded and fired in an orderly manner. Wherever there was dense gunfire, rockets would fly there.

The guerrilla machine gunners on the opposite position had never had such a great time. The company commander of the second company of the second battalion had personally promised that the light and heavy machine guns should just keep firing and all the bullets would be replenished as they were consumed. In the past, machine gunners mostly fired in bursts, but now they feel that strafing is more comfortable. Those at the foot of the mountain are not groups of Japs, but groups of fat pigs waiting to be slaughtered.

The sounds of resisting gunfire in the valley became fewer and fewer. Some Japanese soldiers hiding in the shadows trembled in fear, fearing that the muzzle flames would attract a barrage of bullets.

Twenty minutes later, the machine guns of the Lunan Detachment stopped firing. This was enough time to rush down and clean up the remaining enemies. The second company on the opposite side was still firing. The light and heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft machine guns were divided into two groups, taking turns to fire at those suspicious positions. The guerrillas here were so upset. Are they so willful because they have money? Even if they have a lot of bullets, they can't fight like this!

This was not the end. The other side gave a signal, instructing this side to continue to reinforce the trenches. Hundreds of commandos who were cleaning up the battlefield rushed down, firing non-stop with their submachine guns. The Japanese soldiers hiding in the shadows and pretending to be dead saw that there was no hope of survival, so they raised their rifles and began to fight back.

boom!Boom!

The Japanese counterattack still caused some casualties to the commandos. The stormtroopers fought even harder and lined up to plow the land from east to west. The battle took half an hour and it took twenty minutes to clean up the battlefield.

"Company commander, the battalion headquarters forwarded a telegram from a spy in Jinan, saying that the Japanese army is gathering troops in Jinan. They have assembled about two battalions of troops, and have mobilized many trucks and horses, and are about to set off."

Song Qingming thought for a moment. The place was in a mess and was no longer suitable for blocking. The Japanese army could only take the road in trucks. There was a Gushan Mountain three kilometers to the north near Tongluo Mountain. The terrain there was even more dangerous. It was not considered before to simply control the road, but now was the right time.

Song Qingming immediately gave orders, leaving medical personnel to take care of the wounded, more than 400 reserve troops to clean up the battlefield and clear the spoils, and the rest of the troops set out immediately and marched to Gushan. They had to reach Gushan in 20 minutes to build a simple position. The Japanese army could arrive in more than half an hour, so time was very urgent. Before leaving, Song Qingming gathered several captains of the reserve troops:

"Time is urgent. The Japanese reinforcements include cavalry, trucks, and maybe even infantry. We are likely to send some troops over. You only have 20 minutes to prepare. Set up the machine guns after 20 minutes. No matter which devils come, just set them on fire."

"Don't worry, Captain Song. Leave this to us. Just put your weapons here. With so many machine guns and mortars, we are not afraid even if a thousand Japanese come."

Song Qingming hurriedly mounted his horse and ran away. Several guerrilla captains were excited. They made a fortune! Although they had to be distributed with other troops of the Lunan Detachment in the end, this was the firepower of a regiment, and drinking some soup would also allow them to grow rapidly.

"Act quickly, move the machine guns to the north, and go to the high ground. Don't worry about the bullets and rifles for now, they are all ours. Be ready in fifteen minutes."

More than four hundred people were busy, carrying Type 99 light and Type 92 rifles and anything that could be used to the position after inspection. In just over ten minutes, more than thirty light and heavy machine guns were set up on both sides of the northernmost position, with the ammunition arcs suppressed and the carrying boards inserted, ready to fire at any time.

The distance was three kilometers, and the teams on both sides marched quickly in only seventeen minutes to reach the position. After arriving, they sent out cavalry reconnaissance posts to be on guard, and all the soldiers began earthwork again. The hillsides on both sides were dusty. Time was tight, and the trenches might not be connected, but individual pits had to be dug. The Japanese had very accurate marksmanship, and lying on the slope to ambush would be a sitting duck.
