Starting from May 22, 1938, the ruthless team, led by the black and white eagles of The Condor Heroes, began a comprehensive attack on the road west of Weishan Lake.

From Jining to Jinxiang, from Jining to Yutai, and as far south as Peixian and Fengxian, the ruthless team launched a full-scale attack on the Japanese transport troops and garrison troops in small towns, running as fast as thunder and lightning.

The railway line had been destroyed by the guerrillas long ago, and now the highway was also damaged, with dozens of losses. The newly appointed Japanese colonel Hebian Chanxia in Jining City was furious at several squadron leaders, slapping them non-stop:

"Baga, up to now, we have lost eight hundred warriors and countless military supplies. Apart from the black and white eagles, you don't even know how many people there are on the other side, what sequence they belong to. You good-for-nothings! Idiots."

The previous colonel committed disembowelment on the same night when the commandos and three guerrillas joined forces to destroy the tank transport team. Hebian Chanxia was also very panicked. When he came from Peiping, Commander Bin Shanyuan specifically instructed that the materials in Jining City must be protected and the supply of the front-line attack troops must be guaranteed.

When he came down from the river, he still despised Colonel Aoki, thinking that he was a stupid commander who was frightened by a few guerrillas and was not worthy of being a soldier of the Empire of Japan. He entered Jining City with a battalion of troops, only to find that trouble was coming.

The situation was better east of Weishan Lake. The escort teams were cautious and alert, and weapons and ammunition were occasionally delivered.

There was a big trouble west of Weishan Lake. All the roads were cut off. Dozens of guerrillas of all sizes became extremely active. They dug roads, blew up bridges, destroyed railways, and used all kinds of means. Even some important strongholds were attacked. Hebian Chanxia didn't understand how the heavily defended artillery tower could be easily taken down without even any signs of a violent explosion. Were the defending soldiers pigs?

Seeing Hebian Chanxia's rage, a squadron leader gritted his teeth and explained:

"Colonel, the enemy is elusive and has no fixed base. They are in Pei County today and outside Jining city at night. In addition, their number changes every day. According to the soldiers who came back alive, the number was as small as seven or eight people and as many as one or two hundred. It is impossible to judge, so please forgive me."

Hebian Chan looked depressed. This mission was difficult! If the escort team was strengthened, Jining City would be empty. If it was not strengthened, it would basically be a one-way trip. The frontline troops were demanding their lives every day. Couldn't they send their own team back to get it?

Hebian Chanxia had no idea that the frontline troops had already entered into brutal street fighting, suffering heavy losses, and all their manpower was deployed to encircle and clean up the situation. There was no one available to come back and transport weapons and ammunition!

The North China Expeditionary Army Command once doubted the Black and White Eagles, suspecting that they were members of the Lone Wolf Commando. However, news came from Xuzhou that the Lone Wolf Commando not only eliminated the Japanese sneak attack force in Xuzhou, but also carried out training around Xuzhou, which dispelled the doubts.

On May 26, the Xuzhou battlefield ushered in a turning point. The 20th Army suffered heavy losses in the Taierzhuang street fighting and was the first to withdraw from the battle sequence and retreat towards Kaifeng. The remnants of the Second Army and the 60th Army were still fighting desperately.

That night, Li Zongren ordered a full-scale covert retreat. Tens of thousands of national troops carried the wounded, abandoned all their baggage, and withdrew from Taierzhuang on the night of the 26th.

After passing through Xuzhou, they withdrew to Kaifeng together with the garrison troops in Xuzhou and the command sequence of the Fifth War Zone.

On the same night, the defense sequence on the southern front quickly retreated to Bengbu, Anhui along the north of the Huai River.

The defensive forces on the western front also quickly broke contact, leaving behind the rear guard troops and evacuated towards Kaifeng. The Japanese army pursued them all night, but was still blocked by the rear guard troops. A cavalry regiment went around to pursue them, but was ambushed by Wang Mingzhang's 122nd Division under the leadership of the Southern Sichuan Special Forces, and fled in panic.

The four understaffed rearguard regiments of Sun Zhen's and Sun Tongxuan's troops on the western front were completely annihilated under the siege of the Japanese army until the last soldier died.

On May 27, the Japanese army announced the occupation of Taierzhuang and Xuzhou, and the Battle of Xuzhou was won.

Since then, the northern section of the Jinpu Line has been fully opened, leaving only places such as Bengbu and Chuzhou south of the Huaihe River.

All the remaining troops of the Fifth War Zone were partially replenished in Kaifeng and Zhengzhou, ready to defend Henan to the death and block the Japanese army's covetousness for Wuhan.

The commando team had already begun to evacuate. They had spent the entire night greeting all the guerrillas they could find, hiding and waiting for the opportunity. If they could no longer hold on, they would retreat to the Yimeng Mountains.

Chen Feng was a little emotional. The problem still lies with the 20th Army! However, compared with historical memory, this time, General Tang, who was anesthetized by the electric shock, has performed well.

In the two battles of Xuzhou, starting from the defense of Teng County, the Japanese casualties totaled 93,000, but the Japanese side only admitted to 67,000. The National Army had 300,000 troops before, plus several reinforcements, a total of 430,000 troops were deployed. When they retreated to Henan and Anhui, only 180,000 troops were left. Not counting the wounded, the number of deaths and missing alone reached a terrifying 250,000.

Although the Kuomintang army retreated, the anti-Japanese enthusiasm in the Kuomintang-controlled areas remained high, and the achievements made by the Fifth War Zone were beyond anyone's imagination before.

The Battle of Xuzhou ended successfully. Compared with historical records, there was obvious progress in both the casualties and the stagnation of the Japanese army. The losses of the Japanese army in the Battle of Xuzhou gave most Chinese people hope. For a miscellaneous war zone, after more than three months of position defense, the casualty ratio was controlled within three times, which was a remarkable achievement. This also indirectly boosted the morale of most anti-Japanese teams.

When the Japanese army chased to Kaifeng, they saw that the National Army had already prepared the trench line, so they did not rush to attack and began a confrontation with the National Army. Due to insufficient troops, too long front line, and inability to keep up with the transportation, they no longer had any advantage in attack. In addition, the Jinpu Line had not been fully opened, so Bengbu, Chuzhou and Hefei were the top priorities.

After Chen Feng got all the information, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. The huge stone that was weighing on his heart was lifted, and he felt extremely relieved. The elite troops of the Fifth War Zone had been withdrawn, and the Yellow River should not have to be bombed. One of the biggest tragedies in the history of the War of Resistance would not happen, and his depressed mood suddenly felt lifted.

The commandos couldn't understand why the captain was getting more and more excited when they were clearly fleeing and retreating.

All guerrillas passing through the area were notified, and the team began their journey home with one man and one horse. It was repeatedly and seriously emphasized to each guerrilla that the Japanese army would definitely launch a frenzied revenge, and the team had better hide and wait for the opportunity.

At the Peking Headquarters of the Japanese North China Expeditionary Army, Bin Shanyuan was interviewed by dozens of foreign journalists. Although his face was full of passion and the interview lasted more than two hours, he felt very bitter inside. The loss of two reorganized Type A divisions and 100,000 people was a hurdle that he would never be able to overcome.
