The autumn forests seemed to have been painted, the golden hues enhanced by the dappled sunlight, adding to the autumnal atmosphere. The ground was covered with a thick layer of fallen leaves. A few fruits lay scattered to one side.

Such a view made Jiuyin stop and linger. She stepped on the leaf-strewn ground, looked up at the sky, and felt the changing seasons.

As she marveled at the fleeting nature of time, a fallen leaf landed in her palm. She reached out and touched it, the veins of which were clearly visible.

A rustling sound arose, accompanied by bird calls, coming from afar.

The noise shattered the tranquility. A woman clutched her stomach in panic, her face filled with terror, and ran as fast as she could, glancing back every now and then.

In her haste, she tripped and fell forward. The woman quickly covered her stomach, looking pained.

There was no pain as expected; she fell into someone's arms, and Jiuyin helped her up.

"Help me, help me!"

The woman was clutching her stomach and looked panicked.

"Madam, have you encountered any difficulties?"

The woman, as if grasping at a straw, grabbed Jiu Yin's hand and pleaded, "Please save me! I'm a farmer from the foot of the mountain, my name is Li Yuniang. My family is poor, and we had no choice but to sell me to a wealthy merchant as a concubine. Soon after, I became pregnant. When the mistress of that household found out, she was displeased and bribed people to say that I was having an affair and that they wanted to kill me."

Before he could finish speaking, a group of people carrying sticks rushed over menacingly.

Jiuyin stood in front of Li Yuniang and knocked down those people with a wave of her hand.

She hadn't expected that as soon as she made her move, those people lay motionless on the ground. Sensing something was wrong, Jiu Yin was about to step forward when she discovered that they were all dead.

“They’ve all died,” Jiu Yin frowned.

Just as Jiu Yin frowned, realizing these people were long dead, and someone had manipulated them to come here to kill a pregnant woman, a sinister laugh suddenly broke through her thoughts.

The newcomer was dressed in black, slender, with delicate features, excessively pale, and black lines spreading across his cheeks. He wore an eerie smile, and his limbs seemed disproportionate.

The person tilted their head, blinked, and said, "Hello."

This thing is clearly not a normal person. Li Yuniang looked terrified and covered her mouth, afraid of making a sound.

The man pointed at Jiu Yin and the people who stood up behind her, saying, "You, you, and them, stay here and play with me."

The servant who was just a moment ago a dead man now stands behind the sickly man with a strange posture, as if waiting for his orders to act at any moment.

"Puppet Technique"—these were the people being controlled by this guy; this evil technique is puppetry.

She had seen this spell before, and Li Yuniang cried out in alarm, retreating in terror.

Jiuyin stood still, blocking Li Yuniang's way. These people had strange limbs, blank stares, and moved like puppets.

Just as the puppets swarmed forward, she waved her hand, and several golden lights flew away. The puppets seemed to freeze in time, stopping their movement, falling to the ground, and remaining motionless.

Just then, she heard applause and sensed something was wrong. There was a faint but palpable killing intent around her. Jiu Yin frowned and pulled the person behind her.

Jiuyin conjured an archer in her hand, quickly drew her bow, and shot at the figure in the shadows, forcing it out.

Upon seeing the figure that had emerged, Jiu Yin recognized it as an "insect beast"—a creature with wings tucked behind its back. The person's face was obscured, but Jiu Yin knew from its aura that it was a "beast infested with insects."

Just then, a flash of cold light appeared. Jiuyin sensed something amiss behind her, dodged the dagger that was thrust at her, and then twisted Li Yuniang's wrist, interrupting her attack.

They subdued her, but Li Yuniang seemed to have lost control, letting out a hissing sound and struggling in pain, her skirt stained with scarlet spots.

"Controlling God Spell" Jiu Yin became alert and quickly suppressed the spell within the body, then used her magic power to inject into Li Yuniang's abdomen.

She had to defend herself against the oncoming attack. Even so, she killed the monster in less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.

The woodcutter on the mountain was so frightened by the sight of a crowd that he dropped his firewood and ran away in a hurry.

Before long, the officials arrived and took them to the government office.

They were skeptical of Jiu Yin's testimony. She didn't want to have much contact with these people, but the curse on Li Yuniang's body hadn't been lifted yet, so she had no choice but to stay.

But when she released the monster, it turned out to be a moth, already erect. Naturally, no one believed such a small thing, thinking she was just a madwoman spouting nonsense. But the only living people present were this woman and Li Yuniang.

"As expected," she guessed correctly. In that case, she herself hadn't believed it before, intending to leave once the curse was broken.

Jiuyin asked, "Could you lead the way to see Li Yuniang?"

Upon receiving the news, the county magistrate squinted, stroked his beard with a smile, and after confirming the veracity of the two men's testimonies, shook his head directly, "I have not yet reached a conclusion, it is unacceptable."

"The coroner is currently examining the body; we will draw a conclusion once everything has settled down."

"Alright, I'll take another short rest then," Jiuyin said, preparing to leave.

The advisor pointed out that if this person truly possessed extraordinary abilities, such negligence would make it difficult to find him if he escaped.

The county magistrate immediately opened his eyes: "Wait!"

Soon the advisor received his instructions and stepped forward with a smile, "Heroine, you've traveled a long way and acted righteously. How can we trouble you to stay outside alone!"

"No need to interrupt him," Jiu Yin said. "If there's any progress, go to the City God Temple in the west. I'll be there!"

The advisor was baffled by her answer and simply said, "Uh..."

"Yes"

After the person had gone far away, the clerk belatedly realized what had happened to him. He had wanted to keep the person there to avoid having to arrest them later.

"Alright, send a few men to follow them," the county magistrate waved his hand. This man's demeanor was open and frank, without the slightest panic. To have such a mindset, either what she said was true, or he was very shrewd.

For Li Yuniang, the first thing she did upon waking up was to look at her belly, and feeling the fetal movements instantly brought her peace of mind.

Because she was pregnant, she went to a nearby temple to fulfill a vow, but for some reason, she saw a monster, fainted from fright, and then didn't know what happened.

When asked about the details, she only replied that she knew nothing.

Her family told her to say that even if she saw a monster and fainted, her mother-in-law comforted her, saying it was just a dream.

The family was worried that Li Yuniang would be further traumatized by the deaths of everyone in the car, so they didn't tell her. They only said that she was pregnant and was having wild thoughts.

Because they were worried that Yu Niang would be traumatized, the family spent some money to send the government officials away, so that she could stay at home and rest peacefully during her pregnancy, for fear that something unexpected might happen.

Even so, the story of this strange incident spread throughout the streets and alleys, and people were curious about what had happened.
