The courtyard: the atmosphere of human life

Chapter 41: Feelings Should Be Equal

Ever since Master Mao stood up for Darong last time, Director Lu has never provoked Darong again. She goes to work and comes home from work obediently every day, and her life has become much more relaxed.

In fact, Darong is not a pampered person. When working in the factory, her daily output and quality are up to the average level. Master Mao also appreciates Darong's hard work.

"Da Rong, I didn't expect you to be so capable." During the break, Master Mao chatted with Darong while drinking tea.

“I just try my best.”

"Just know that you're doing your best. When you were first handed over to me, I really thought you were a useless person. You looked so fair and clean that you didn't look like a working person." Master Mao happily recounted the things that happened when he handed over Darong to her.

Because Darong offended Director Xiao Lu, her original master didn't dare to teach her anymore. After much persuasion, he found Master Mao to take over her teaching.

In fact, Master Mao hasn't had an apprentice for a long time. After all, he is about to retire and just wants to finish his last year in ease. But when he heard that Darong had offended Xiao Lu, Master Mao readily agreed.

Master Mao is not well educated and has always had a sense of right and wrong in her heart. She looks down on Director Lu's behavior, and Director Lu is just as annoying.

"Master, since you don't like me, why are you willing to take over my guidance?" Darong also poured a glass of water and sat next to the master.

"Do you want to hear the truth?" Master Mao asked Darong mysteriously.

Darong nodded and looked at Master Mao with a well-behaved look on her face.

"Firstly, you are fair-skinned, which I like. Secondly, I don't have to find fault with them when they quarrel. Hahaha..." Master Mao said and then laughed heartily.

Darong felt speechless, thinking that she was just a small cannon fodder.

"What are you talking about? You're laughing so happily." Goubangzi came running over and hugged Master Mao's shoulders.

"They say your sister Goose is very white." Master Mao patted Goubangzi's hand and laughed even louder.

Ever since Goubangzi met Darong, he nicknamed her "Big White Goose". Firstly, it was because she was fair-skinned, and secondly, Darong's usual arrogant attitude and look of disdain for others was very much like the domineering posture of a domestic goose.

"That's true. Sister Goose is so white that she glows. There's no one else like her in the southern suburbs." Goubangzi followed Darong with a grin and made fun of her.

"Don't you have any work to do? Just sit here and do nothing." Darong was not angry. She gave Goubangzi a cheerful look.

"I just miss my Aunt Mao, so I came here to have some tea." Goubangzi said as he took Master Mao's arm.

Master Mao pulled his hand back and kicked Goubangzi on the butt.

"Stop it, and get back to work. Your sister-in-law will come and grab you soon."

Goubangzi strolled into the workshop eight times a day, and every time he came to see Master Mao. No one could fail to see his little trick.

Darong always treated Goubangzi as a child, who was even younger than Sibeier. Although she kept calling her "Swan Sister" and "Goose Sister" all the time, Darong never thought about anything else.

"You bastard, what are you talking about again? Get back to work."

Speak of the devil, and here he comes. As soon as Master Mao finished speaking, Sister Yao’s roar came over.

"Hey, sister-in-law, can you please stop calling me a dog? I'm so old now, people are laughing at me."

It would have been better if Goubangzi hadn't said anything. After he said it, everyone in the workshop burst into laughter.

"Hehe, you've been calling it that for more than ten years and it's okay. How come you're shy after just two days?" Sister Yao deliberately raised her voice, and several older sisters in the workshop followed suit and laughed.

Goubangzi stood up angrily and walked out of the workshop. When he passed by Sister Dayao, she patted him on the back of the head again.

"Give up, kid. How can you think of Darong? Go to work honestly and stop thinking about her."

After leaving the workshop, the uncle and his wife walked in the open space of the factory yard. Sister Yao spoke sternly to the dog.

Sister Dayao is a smart person. She knows that her brother-in-law is very different from Darong. If she doesn't put an end to this little thought in time, he will be the only one who suffers in the future.

Goubangzi didn't say anything, but just walked towards the workshop in the back warehouse. He knew that he was not worthy of Darong, but the love between boys and girls was difficult to be influenced by reason.

The involuntary emotion of youth always drove him to the workshop to look at Darong a few more times, even if it was just a look.

"Miss."

As Darong just walked out of the factory gate, she heard Xiao Ling's voice coming from the flower bed nearby.

"Xiao Ling? Why are you here?"

Darong took two steps towards Xiao Ling before she realized that her eyes were red, obviously she had just cried.

"What's wrong with you?" Darong asked with concern, not knowing what had happened.

"My aunt is angry with me..."

As Xiao Ling said this, tears started to fall again.

Ever since Xiao Ling and Sibei graduated, she has been going to Darong's house every few days. At first, she followed Sibei to sell popsicles. Later, after Sibei went to the factory, she often came to help Darong's mother with work while waiting for Sibei.

After all this, Darong's mother actually accepted Xiao Ling as her daughter-in-law. Although she had a bad temper, she was still very hardworking.

"Don't cry first. What's the reason?" Darong saw Xiao Ling crying again and comforted her before asking.

"Before I went there today, I had a quarrel with my mother and was in a very bad mood. When I got home, I saw my second aunt was there. After I greeted her, I went to the kitchen to help cook. When my second aunt left, my aunt got angry and said that I had lost face."

Xiao Ling sobbed as she slowly recounted the whole story.

"What did my mother tell you?"

"My aunt said that she couldn't accept my temper. If I couldn't change it, she wouldn't let me get along with my fourth brother..."

When it came to the four generations, Xiao Ling couldn't hold back her tears and started crying.

Darong knows her mother's temper too well. In Darong's mother's eyes, face is more important than anything else.

Since Xiao Ling had quarreled with her mother, she must be in a bad mood. How many children of this age can put on a forced smile? It was probably because Xiao Ling failed to control her emotions in front of her second aunt, which made Darong's mother unhappy.

"Okay, stop crying. Go home and ask your own mother. Tell her what happened and see what she says. I'll go home and talk to my mother about this, too. After all, it's not a big deal. There's no need to cry like this."

Darong was apparently comforting Xiaoling, but in reality she was asking her to go home and listen more to her mother. In their relationship, Xiaoling had put herself too lowly. Darong couldn't understand that, and wasn't very optimistic about her relationship with Sibei'er.
