The CEO's Wife and First Love

Chapter 661: Prelude to Mutation

Just as I was looking forward to beautiful hopes and welcoming the birth of my baby, something I didn't expect happened, but it was still a mystery.

That day, Robert had breakfast and went to work as usual, but Robert told me that he might have to go home late tonight because they were going to have an annual meeting and everyone would have a dinner together.

He sent me to my workplace. Before leaving, she kissed me on the forehead and gave me a big hug. "Good job, dear."

People in the United States usually revel in their gatherings, drinking, dancing, and generally having a good time. However, that night, instead of waiting for Robert to return as usual, I went to bed early. My pregnancy and fatigue made me particularly sleepy. I slept incredibly deeply that night, barely waking up.

As the morning sun streamed through the window, I slowly opened my eyes. After stretching, I instinctively glanced at the bed next to me, only to be surprised to find it empty! Robert hadn't come home to sleep last night! This was truly unexpected. It was the first time he hadn't come home to sleep.

I thought to myself that maybe the company's carnival was too crazy and everyone was exhausted, so Robert might choose to take a break in the company. Thinking of this, I stopped worrying too much, enjoyed breakfast peacefully, and then prepared to go to work.

I believed that Robert would show up at the company gate on time this afternoon as usual to pick me up and take me home. After all, ever since I became pregnant, he has been particularly concerned about my safety and did not allow me to drive to and from get off work by myself. Most of the time, he would pick me up in person.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was time to get off work in the afternoon. Instead of taking a cab home as usual, I stayed at the office, quietly waiting for Robert to arrive. As I sorted through my work, I kept glancing out the window, hoping he'd show up downstairs.

However, as time went by, my colleagues left one after another, and I was the only one left in the huge office. I began to feel anxious, constantly checking my watch and thinking to myself, "Why hasn't Robert come yet?"

Finally, I couldn't wait any longer and decided to call Robert. The phone rang for a long time, and just when I was about to hang up, he finally answered the phone. However, his voice sounded strange, as if he was tired and hoarse.

"Hello, honey, haven't you finished get off work yet today? I'm still waiting for you to pick me up from get off work." I tried to keep my voice calm, not wanting him to notice my uneasiness.

"Oh, sorry, I might have to work overtime tonight." He said helplessly, "We got a big order, and the company leader said we have to work overtime to complete it."

Hearing he had to work overtime, I felt a little disappointed, but I couldn't say anything. After all, I'm an office worker myself and I understand the pressure and frustration of work. I understand his situation; working overtime is not uncommon for people in the workplace.

"It's okay. It's no big deal if my husband works overtime." I forced a smile and comforted him, "Just focus on your work. I'll be home by myself."

Even though I said this, I still felt a little wronged. I was dragging my heavy body, pregnant, and already exhausted, and now I had to go home alone. However, I also knew that complaining wouldn't solve the problem, so I could only accept this reality silently.

I walked slowly to the door, thinking of taking a taxi home. As I arrived at the door, I ran into a colleague.

"Wanjun, are you waiting for your husband to pick you up?" he greeted enthusiastically.

I looked at her and saw her husband standing next to her, looking at her with a smile. I couldn't help but smile bitterly and replied, "My husband is working overtime and can't pick me up today."

"Overtime, we don't want to work overtime," my colleague's husband blurted out, but he suddenly realized something and immediately shut up.

"Then you can take my car back. Husband, let's send Wanjun back. Wanjun, get in the car. I'll ask your husband to take you back." After saying this, she immediately pulled me into the car.

"This is too much trouble," I felt a little embarrassed.

"It's okay, everyone has inconveniences sometimes, who knows, I might ride in your husband's car next time." My colleague has a generous personality, so I got into the car of my colleague's husband without hesitation.

"What time did you guys end your party last night? Why did you come home so late?" The colleague and her husband were complaining that their husband came home too late.

"I'm not late. When I left, there were still people acting crazy there, hugging each other. I left when I saw them like that. It would be more comfortable for me to go home and hug you." Seeing that her husband was talking without restraint, the colleague immediately patted her husband with her hand to remind him that there was someone behind him.

"What are you afraid of? You are my wife. It is normal for you to hug your wife. It is not right for a beautiful woman to hug other people. It is not right." My colleague's husband said in a lewd manner while looking at the rearview mirror.

When Wanjun saw how much they loved each other, she thought of how clingy she and Robert were, and that all her couples were the same.

"Wife, I'm back late, but some people didn't come home, but stayed there to be intimate with other women. This is obscene and immoral. I'm dozens of times better than them," he muttered while driving.

"Your company is so open. What's its name?" Wanjun was curious and asked when she heard her colleague's husband say that there was such a boring company.

"Chery Technology, the famous American Chery Technology," he answered while driving.

"Chery Technology?" Wanjun murmured these words, her face instantly turning pale as paper. Various images flashed through her mind like a movie.

She was very familiar with this name. Wasn't that Robert's company? Could it be that Robert hadn't come back at all? Thinking of this, Wanjun's heart felt like it had sunk into an ice cellar, and she felt cold all over.

The words her colleague's husband had said kept echoing in her ears. "Hug," "hug a woman," these unbearable words were like sharp swords piercing Wanjun's heart.

Robert hadn't come home since last night. Wanjun had held onto a glimmer of hope, thinking he might just be too busy with work or delayed by something else. But now, all her hopes were shattered at this moment.

Wanjun didn't dare to think any further, she was afraid she would collapse. She stood there blankly, as if she had lost her soul, letting her thoughts run rampant in her mind.

But Wanjun's colleague's husband didn't expect that Wanjun's husband worked in the same company as himself. He was concentrating on driving and didn't notice Wanjun's changes.
