The Legend of the Farm Girl

Chapter 13 Entering the City

Two days later, the village chief really delivered Yunying's household registration to Yunfang's home.

Winter passed quickly, and Yunfang's family did not have a hard time this winter as everyone imagined. Yunfang's mother even felt that materially speaking, they were better off than when Yunfang's father was alive.

Yunfang continued to study in the system. At the end of January, Yunfang's daily study time increased to three hours. At the same time, the system also told her that the three hours of study time would continue until she was twelve years old, and the study time would be extended after she was twelve years old.

After studying for this period of time, Yunfang felt that her handkerchief embroidery skills were good enough. After taking a systematic assessment, Yunfang began to learn to embroider quilt covers. To Yunfang, the quilt cover felt like a larger handkerchief, but the difficulty of embroidering it was much higher.

Yun Fangniang was not idle this winter. She kept practicing dressmaking. She cut up the old and worn-out clothes and made new clothes. Gradually, Yun Fangniang's dressmaking skills improved and she also acquired the ability to modify old clothes.

Both of them were making progress. Winter was almost over, the snow outside had melted away, and it was almost time for them to move. In the past few days, Yunfang and her mother had been packing up. Yunfang's mother had also gone to find Aunt Wang and hired her ox cart to set off on February 25th to move.

On February 25, not only did Aunt Wang's ox cart arrive at Yunfang's door, but there was also an unexpected person, Sister Zhang, who came in the ox cart that Yunfang's mother had hired.

When Yun Fangniang saw Sister Zhang, she was very surprised and asked quickly, "Sister Zhang, why are you here?"

Sister Zhang replied with a smile: "It was only when I moved that I realized how much stuff there is to move. It really proves the saying that even a broken boat has three pounds of iron. I thought that the house I have lived in for three years has so many things, and you must have even more. I was worried that I couldn't find your house, but then Manager Huang told me that you hired this car, so I volunteered to help."

Yun Fangniang said gratefully, "Thank you, Sister Zhang. I was worried. You see, I have packed so many things that it would take a whole ox cart to fill up. What are we going to do? Fortunately, you are here. You have really solved my urgent problem!"

When Aunt Wang and Uncle Wang saw Sister Zhang who came from the city and listened to their conversation, they knew that Yun Fangniang really had a job in the city, and Aunt Wang felt less worried.

After packing up their belongings, they drove to the county town. When they arrived at Yunfang's newly rented house, Sister Zhang said goodbye: "Sister Xiao Qu, my family just moved here too, and I'm busy, so I won't talk to you anymore. I'll go home first, and we'll see you at Shopkeeper Huang's place."

Only after she left did Aunt Wang ask the question in her mind: "Who is this? Is she your boss?"

Yun Fangniang replied, "She is not the boss, but the embroiderer of Shanhai Embroidery Workshop. The house I rented was originally rented by her. Now she bought a house in the south of the city and sublet it to me."

"She's an embroiderer, that's amazing. She's better than us farmers. If Fang'er can learn the embroidery skills in the future, maybe you can settle down in the city!"

Aunt Wang looked at the house again and said, "This house is not bad. Although the yard is a little small, it looks clean. There is also a well. But you have to be careful not to let the children play near the well."

When Yun Fangniang heard her words, she felt warm in her heart, nodded and said, "I will pay attention. Bring Dafu and Erfu with you when you have the chance in the future."

"Okay, we'll wait for a chance. Hurry up and pack up, Dafu Dad and I have to go back!"

After that, they were busy again. By the time they had packed up everything, Yunfang was too tired to walk. Aunt Wang and Uncle Wang were also ready to go home. Yunfang invited them to dinner but didn't keep them. She handed Uncle Wang a hundred coins and said, "Take it. The price of hiring a car to transport goods is different from the price of hiring people. Since you still don't want to eat, I can only compensate you a little more."

Uncle Wang accepted the money, and Aunt Wang said, "I don't have the energy to be polite with you anymore, so we'll go back first."

After Aunt Wang and the other two left, Yun Fang dragged her tired body to cook. After eating, they all fell into a deep sleep. In her sleep, Yun Fang heard the voice of the system: "Hello, host, since you did not fall asleep at noon, the noon study time can be adjusted to the night, do you want to adjust it?"

Yunfang was very happy to hear this, because she didn't take a nap due to the move. She thought she would lose an hour of study at noon, but she didn't expect that she could adjust it to the evening. This is great, won't she have more time to do things during the day in the future!

Yunfang said excitedly: "I agree, and I hope to adjust to the evening in the future."

The system's voice came without any fluctuations: "We have received the host's wishes. From now on, the evening teaching will be adjusted to three hours. There will be no teaching during the day when the host falls asleep. If you need to change it, please actively inform the system. Do you want to continue learning quilt embroidery tonight?"

Yun Fang thought that her mother would go to Shanhai Embroidery Shop to take on a job embroidering handkerchiefs tomorrow, so she should practice embroidering handkerchiefs again tonight, otherwise her hands would become unfamiliar with the technique.

Say to the system: "Spend half of this evening learning quilt embroidery, and the other half practicing handkerchief embroidery."

"Receive the host's wishes, and the teaching will begin."

The next morning, after Yunfang's mother prepared breakfast for the family, she said to Yunfang, "Fang'er, I'm going to the Shanhai Embroidery Workshop. You should keep an eye on the brothers, especially Feng'er. Don't let him go to play by the well."

Yunfang nodded solemnly and said, "Okay, mother, don't worry, I will take good care of my brothers."

Yunfang's mother left home for Shanhai Embroidery Workshop, and Yunfang and her two younger brothers stayed at home. Yunfeng was five years old after the Chinese New Year, and Yunying was almost nine months old. Yunying adapted to the new environment very quickly and even wanted to crawl around to explore the new territory, but Yunfeng was not yet adapted. He felt like he had been sitting in a carriage for a long time and had arrived in a completely unfamiliar environment, which made him very scared.

Seeing Yunfeng looking unhappy since getting up in the morning, Yunfang was a little worried. She hugged Yunying who wanted to crawl around and said to Yunfeng, "Xiaofeng, what's wrong with you? Don't you like it here?"

Yunfeng replied: "No, sister, I just don't know why we have to move? Will I be able to see Dafu and Erfu again in the future? I will miss them."

Yunfang began to understand Yunfeng a little.

I smiled and said to him, "We are moving for a better life. You and Xiaoying can go to school in the city. Dafu and Erfu will also come to see us. Don't be so sad. Come on, let me teach you a few words to see if our Xiaofeng has the talent for studying."

Yunfeng was very happy when he heard that his sister wanted to teach him how to write. This was something he had never been exposed to before and it was very new.

Yunfang wrote some words with good meanings that she had learned while embroidering, and picked out the ones that she thought were simple to teach Yunfeng. When Yunfeng recognized them, she praised Yunfeng generously: "Xiaofeng is great, Xiaofeng is so smart, Xiaofeng is so amazing."

With all the compliments, Yunfeng's mood improved and he thought it would be a good idea for him to study in the city in the future.

Many years later, Yunfeng no longer remembers how sad he felt about moving, or how his sister taught him to read. But whenever he got tired of studying, he would hear his sister's praises in his ears, and then he would seem to be motivated.
