Drilling wood to start a fire? It's easier said than done. You can't just rely on your hands. You need the help of ropes. Where do ropes come from? They are made of dense fibers, animal tendons and skins, woven and twisted.

Fortunately, there are many trees on the mountain, and there are also large tracts of bamboo forests.

Liu Yuan got to work right away. He used a pointed stone to scratch the bark of various trees, pulled them off and tore them into strips to dry in the sun.

Find some dry tree trunks, branches, leaves, tree fluff, and hay and take them back to the small cave next to it to store them. Also find some pine cones, nuts such as pecans, hawthorns, plums, etc.

At the entrance of the small cave, Liu Yuan used stones and mud to build a stove and a small kiln. He used water and soil to make mud, and molded it into the shapes of cups, bowls, plates, and dishes and hung them up to dry.

The thick bamboo poles were split with pointed stones and the bamboo or bamboo tubes were kept for later use. Time passed quickly and Liu Yuan stopped only when he felt tired and hungry.

Liu Yuan wandered around in the bamboo forest and found a few early spring bamboo shoots. He washed them and ate some raw. He rested for a while and wove the bark fibers that had been dried in the sun into hemp ropes.

Liu Yuan took a relatively straight and hard branch, sharpened the thick end on a rock, placed a very thick dry but relatively soft tree trunk underneath, wrapped it with hemp rope five or six times, and used a thicker wooden stick as a lever, pulling it back and forth like a saw. After an hour or two of repeated friction, smoke finally came out. He sprinkled more tree wool and rubbed it repeatedly, and the smoke became thicker again. He blew gently, and finally sparks and small flames ignited. He added hay and dry branches, and waited until the fire stabilized before starting the small kiln.

As the fire got bigger, Liu Yuan put the previously dried cups, bowls, plates and dishes into the small kiln, sealed the kiln door and left air holes to prevent the fire from being extinguished due to lack of oxygen.

Place a half bamboo or bamboo tube filled with water and some nuts on the kiln. When the temperature reaches a certain level, the water will boil and you can finally drink hot water. Unfortunately, there is no pheasant or meat to roast.

The air was filled with a faint scent of pine wood. Some of the burning pine wood had leaked out some pine resin, which "Liu Yuan" put into a fired bowl. The pine resin can stop bleeding, reduce swelling, and detoxify, and is very effective in treating trauma and rheumatism.

Liu Yuan also made some pinewood torches, and deliberately kept elm trunks in a small kiln as fire starters. Because elm wood is dense and particularly resistant to burning, there is a folk saying that "elm wood is stubborn and inflexible", which is often used to insult people who are not smart or flexible. In fact, this saying is intended to emphasize the toughness and density of elm wood.

The dazzling light gradually dimmed, the sun gradually set, the sky seemed to be covered with a soft red glow, the setting sun also turned red, the sky slowly darkened, and the mountains were also sprinkled with a golden afterglow of the setting sun.
