Liu Yuan and Liu Zhihui's father Liu Rukui, Zhou Weiguo (Zhou Wen)'s father Zhou Jixian, together with Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Huang Xing, were all early revolutionary pioneers of the Tongmenghui. During an assassination attempt on a Manchu prince, Liu Rukui died heroically to protect Zhou Jixian.
