Blending of Planes: I am leisurely farming
Chapter 69 Maru's Determination
"As you can see, my father Demetrius is a scientific research maniac. He is stubborn, rigid, and unkind. Plus, our skin color~" Maru sighed softly.
She went on, "I forgot to tell you, we are the Black people. It is said that during the war a hundred years ago, our ancestors came from a distant continent to support us, and after the war ended they decided to settle here."
Sean looked at Maru. Her brown skin exuded a unique charm in the sunlight, forming a sharp contrast with the white-skinned people around her.
An inexplicable emotion surged in his heart, but because he was also of white skin, he didn't know how to start speaking for a moment.
Maru seemed to see through Sean's thoughts. She continued, "Sometimes, being a minority means facing weird and discriminatory looks. My father suffered a lot of discrimination because of his skin color since he was a child. He worked harder than his peers to become a researcher. However, these experiences also made him closed, not good at expressing himself, and more stubborn."
"I thought that as a researcher I would be in contact with elite people and that the situation would improve, but who knew that these sophisticated egoists were just like the Joja Corporation, who were polite on the surface but discriminated against people more severely than anyone else."
"My father's research project, research funding and results were not approved for various reasons. Frustrated, he applied for an external transfer and came to Pelican Town, intending to produce significant results on his own to slap those people in the face."
Maru took a deep breath and smiled. "Here, no townspeople care about skin color. My father also found true love here—my mother Robin, and I was born."
Originally, Sean wanted to say something to express his empathy, but seeing that Maru was just telling a normal story in a steady tone instead of venting her emotions, he decisively shut up and waited for what to say next.
"Because there is no regular school in Pelican Town, my father sent me to study in another province. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied in school because of the color of my skin, so my father took me back and taught me academically at home. Since then, I have always stayed by my father's side as his experimental assistant."
Malu's tone was calm, as if she was not the one who was bullied.
"But gradually I found that his protectiveness was a little too strong. He didn't allow me to take over dangerous experiments, nor did he allow me to deviate from the training track he had originally set. What's worse is that the conflict between him and Sebastian has become more and more intense."
"His stubbornness and obstinacy will hurt the people he truly loves. You also know that Sebastian is my half-brother. He is a weird genius with an unparalleled talent in programming! As an aside, the automation program of my fully automatic sled was written under his guidance." Maru's face was filled with admiration for his brother.
In order to give Sean a clear understanding of the extent of Sebastian's genius, Maru also cited an example of a sleigh that Sean saw with his own eyes during the Feast of Winter Veil.
It turns out that Sebastian who appeared in the early morning that day was a programmer. He was so quiet and behaved a little strangely. I didn't expect that. Sean thought silently.
"It's a pity that my brother is having a falling out with father again, and my automation process has made no progress." Maru said with some distress.
"My father often scolded my brother for his strange behavior. As a stubborn researcher, he believed that these behaviors were wrong and must be corrected."
"No! How should I put it? It can't be called a scolding. The difference in attitude has deepened the conflict between the two." The girl in front of him was distressedly considering her words to express her views on her own family.
"How should I put it~ I remember when I was a kid, my brother and I were making snowmen together. I made an ordinary snowman and was praised by my father, but my brother Sebastian made a snowman that looked like a lifelike monster. Not only did he not get any praise from my father, but he immediately asked him to destroy the snowman."
In order to help Sean better understand the difference in his father's attitude, Maru thought about giving an example.
"What's the difference between my father's current behavior and the people who discriminated against him because of his skin color? It's just that he used the same method on my brother in a different way."
Maru's hiking boots were unconsciously touching each other due to being stretched out while sitting, and she was bending over, rubbing her hands on her knees.
"I want my father to think carefully about how he gets along with his brother. He actually cares about Sebastian, but he just doesn't know how to express it." Malu defended her father. "That day I also saw two books on his bedside: "Maximizing Your Second Marriage" and "Practical Advice for First-Time Stepfathers."
"So you?" Sean interjected.
"So I want to have a place where I can be independent and make my own decisions. I thought of this idea when you talked to my mother." Maru pushed her glasses with the back of her hand, opened her beautiful eyes and looked at Sean with blinking eyes.
"I want to do something on my own to explain to my father that his children will have to face life alone one day, and what he thinks is protection is not necessarily what others want." Maru clenched his fists and said firmly.
"Regarding my brother's matter, I want to tell father not to impose his own ideas on others. He should respect and understand everyone's thoughts. Otherwise, father will be no different from the people he hated before." Malu patted her thigh and stood up. The sunlight cast a layer of golden light on her, shining brightly.
"Sean, can you help me?" She lowered her head and looked at Sean with focused eyes.
"If you can convince Robin, why not? It just so happens that my farm has nothing else but a lot of vacant land." Sean stood up and looked at Maru, who was basking in the sun and wearing only a thin round-neck sweatshirt on her upper body. He threw back the windbreaker he was wearing.
"We've rested enough, let's go back. Put on your clothes to avoid catching a cold. My clothes are almost dry." After saying this, Sean packed up his things, picked up the plastic box with the sampling bottles and returned the same way.
Maru looked at Sean's back, gratitude glittering in her eyes.
So the two of them returned to the research institute to discuss the plan of building the wooden house.
After returning, Sean told Demetrius everything that happened after encountering the strange fish. Demetrius realized the seriousness of the matter and immediately rushed to inform Lewis.
Sean used the excuse of changing clothes, exchanged glances with Maru, withdrew from the relevant discussion, and slipped back to the farm alone.
It is better to leave this kind of thing that seems to be somewhat complicated and troublesome to Lewis first, and then you can focus on your work and wait for the results.
