Blending of Planes: I am leisurely farming
Chapter 20 Growing Pains
The next day, early in the morning.
The space crack behind him slowly closed and the white light gradually dissipated.
Sean returned to his familiar wooden house. The room was filled with fresh wood fragrance, and the winter morning light shining through the wooden windows made the room sparkle and peaceful.
As soon as he returned to the comfortable environment, Sean felt sleepy. He hadn't slept for a day and yawned while sorting out the heavy axe, helmet and other equipment and putting them into the space.
Because he had just returned from the dense forest and the alien space, Sean carefully checked himself from head to toe to see if there were any new wounds or swellings.
Fortunately, the preliminary preparations were well done, and except for the plant mucus and mud on the clothes, the body was safe and sound.
With a sigh of relief, Sean returned to the bedroom and changed out of his windbreaker. Then he went to the kitchen sink and scooped some water onto his face. The winter chill that penetrated into his bones immediately dispelled his sleepiness.
The series of supernatural phenomena in the past few days made Sean a little worried. Thinking about the suspicious figure he had just seen, he decided to go to the cave in the north of the farm to investigate regardless of his sleepiness.
Walking out of the cabin and onto the farm path, the air in the winter morning was exceptionally fresh. The fields and houses were covered with a thin layer of hoarfrost. The trees cast mottled shadows in the morning light. The farmland sparkled silver under the hoarfrost, and the mountains in the distance were shrouded in a layer of mist.
Time here becomes slow and long, everything seems so peaceful and harmonious. Sean takes a deep breath of the cold morning air, and his thoughts also become long in the tranquility of this winter.
In order to protect the tranquility of this winter, we have to work harder! Sean encouraged himself in his heart and quickened his pace.
In the north of the farm, on the open space at the entrance of the cave, a bonfire was burning. Smoke rose slowly in the cold morning. The orange-red flames reflected on the surrounding stone walls, outlining the rough rock texture and the girl's fair and slightly red face due to the cold.
"Ah~ Why, why! I don't like to be gentle and elegant, and be a lady that everyone likes. Why do you have to ask me to do this?" The girl poked the campfire randomly with the branch in her hand, venting her emotions.
The girl was Abigail, Pierre's daughter who had run away from home. It seemed that she had spent the night here.
"Crack~" The branch in the girl's hand broke into two pieces because she used too much force, "I'm so unwilling." She gave up on herself and threw the broken piece in her hand into the bonfire.
"I don't know how worried my mother will be. No! I can't go back. I can't give up!" The girl suppressed her regret and worry about getting into trouble out of her stubborn self-esteem, and she put up a final resistance in her heart.
Staring blankly at the campfire, Abigail's face looked gloomy and uncertain in the firelight.
"Gurgle~" the stomach made a sound. "So sleepy and hungry~" the girl muttered to herself.
"Oh~ It's so annoying! I don't know which bastard threw the firecrackers. Don't let me catch him!" Abigail held her head with both hands and pulled her hair in distress, making her long purple hair that was already listless on her shoulders even more messy.
Hearing the girl's mumbling, Sean, who had already come here and was the "mastermind", touched his nose with a guilty conscience.
"It turned out to be a family drama about a girl running away from home. It was a false alarm, and we dispersed. I thought it was something else. I'll notify Pierre when I get back, and just wait to see what happens. Please call me an unknown kind-hearted person."
Sean made up his mind to retreat slowly, but unexpectedly, the sleepiness from days of sleepiness made him step into empty space.
"Who!" The noise startled Abigail, and she asked Sean.
"Why don't I just catch up on my sleep? Why couldn't I control my legs and have to come over to take a look? Now I'm in trouble." Sean thought with some regret, completely forgetting his previous caution and urgency.
Sean cleared his throat and came out from behind the bushes. He asked, "Abigail, why are you here to warm yourself by the fire on my farm so early in the morning?"
Because she is Pierre's daughter, Sean has met her several times in the past few days, and they know each other.
Seeing that it was Sean, Abigail first breathed a sigh of relief and stopped her escape. Then she realized that Sean had heard her mumbling just now, and a strong sense of shame surged in her heart.
"Ah! What did you hear!" Abigail shouted madly, staring at Sean with a look that said, "Forget about what happened today, or I'll die in front of your door."
"I heard you're very good. A few days ago, you caught a snake and sold it to my father. Let's compete with each other. I win. You should forget everything that happened today. You didn't see anything and you didn't know I was here. When others ask you, just say you don't know." Abigail, who has been the leader of the children since she was young, was a little angry and embarrassed when others saw this side of her. In order to cover up her panic and shyness, she made a posture in a hurry and rushed towards Sean in a panic.
"I knew that getting involved in this kind of family conflict caused by teenage rebellion is the most troublesome." Sean looked at Abigail who was rushing over with an expression that said she was in trouble, and muttered to himself.
He blocked the girl's knife attack with his left hand, blocked the knee kick with his right hand, and then leaned back to avoid the whip attack from the girl's other hand.
"There's a gap!" Sean stepped forward with his left leg and hooked his leg, causing the girl to lose her balance.
As she was about to fall, Sean stepped forward and supported her.
Their eyes met and Abigail struggled to break free from Sean's support.
Both sides stood still. Abigail was not the type to get too entangled, and she came out of her emotional state a little bit: "Thank you, I lost, I owe you a favor, and I will definitely help you in any way I can in the future."
Sean was amused by Abigail's righteous tone, and he also realized that she was lacking a way out, so he wanted to tease her: "You don't have to wait until later. I happen to be going to town later, so you can just accompany me."
"What? You already know everything. Can you not go?" Abigail was a child at heart. Her mood changed quickly. She tried to get away with it.
"What? Are you planning to default on your debt? Where's the momentum you had just now gone?" Sean pretended to be serious and stared at Abigail. The latter lowered her head guiltily under Sean's gaze and kicked the ashes of the campfire next to her.
"I'll go, but can we make a deal? Just say that you caught me and I didn't escape. I didn't come back on my own." The girl's only remaining self-esteem made her make the last small request, "Please."
Sean was amused by her little thoughts, but then he returned to his expressionless look. He couldn't be soft-hearted at this time: "You haven't eaten all day. Come back to the farm with me to have breakfast, and then come to town with me after breakfast."
After saying that, he turned and walked towards the farm.
"He's almost the same age as me, but he acts so old." Abigail followed obediently and muttered.
On a distant treetop, a baby bird was struggling under the gaze of a big bird. It flapped its wings and came to the edge of the bird's nest. The fledgling bird wanted to fly high, and used all its strength, but it stumbled and fell back under the wings of the big bird. Outside the bird's nest was the entire vast sky waiting for it to explore.
