I rely on talismans to seek longevity

Chapter 4: A burden is a treasure

When it was getting dark, Luo Ling came back with an elk on his shoulder. Hunting can only rely on traps and bows and arrows. Luo Ling, who has never practiced martial arts, was very lucky to be able to kill an elk. When he got home, he went to the room and found that the old man was still not awake. Luo Ling went to the kitchen to deal with the prey, and then started to cook dinner.

Dinner was simple, just a barbecue, but Luo Ling was more particular, adding several kinds of fragrant leaves that can be picked outside and some mountain ginger. After a while, waves of meaty aroma came, the meat was cooked, and Luo Ling began to feast on it. Before he had taken two bites, he heard a "cough cough" sound in the room. Luo Ling hurried in, only to see that the old man had woken up, with a little blood at the corner of his mouth, probably from the internal injuries caused by coughing just now. Luo Ling quickly found a towel, walked over to help the old man up, half lying on the bed, and helped the old man wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth. Then he asked the old man: "This old man, you are finally awake. How do you feel?"

The old man opened his eyes slightly and looked at Luo Ling, then closed his eyes again as if with great effort. After a long while, he uttered two words: "Thank you...thank you..." Then he stopped talking. Luo Ling seemed to suddenly remember something, and quickly fed the old man some water. Then he laid the old man flat, sat beside the bed and looked at him. He didn't know what he was thinking. After all, it was the first time he encountered such a thing. He looked at the old man silently for a long time, and saw that the old man didn't move. It felt like he was asleep, so Luo Ling went out, closed the door, and prepared to rest. It was still when the house was built. A few more houses were built, otherwise he probably wouldn't know where to sleep at night.

Lying on the bed, Luo Ling turned around, his thoughts flying all over the sky, and he didn't know what he was thinking. When he was 15 years old, his parents went to the town one day and never came back. The village chief said that it seemed that they encountered a ferocious wild beast on the way and ate them. There were several villagers with them that year. Later, this matter became a big deal. The county even sent a team of elite soldiers to encircle and suppress it. It is said that several big insects were killed. It is not known whether the one who bit his parents to death was among them. Since then, there has been no incident of wild animals biting people to death. At most, they would attack people and steal some food.

Unconsciously, Luo Ling fell asleep again, and when he woke up, it was already daybreak. Since he was a child, he has developed a good habit of not sleeping in. He wakes up on time every day, and every morning he runs around the village a few times, so that he basically won't have any pain. When he pushed open the old man's door again, the old man was already awake. His eyes were no longer like yesterday, and he didn't even have the energy to open them. The old man kept looking at the young man. His eyes showed appreciation and recognition from time to time. Luo Ling quickly helped the old man to a half-lying position, and then fed him some water. Then he said, "You must be hungry. I'll go and make porridge for you."

The old man said slowly to Luo Ling: "Young man, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I would probably be dead."

Luo Ling: "Old sir, you're too polite. It's my duty to save the dying and the wounded. Please wait a moment, food will be available soon."

After a while, a pot of fragrant venison porridge was brought over. Luo Ling fed the old man one spoonful at a time. The old man was not pretentious. He ate slowly at first, but gradually, his eating speed was no different from that of ordinary people. After eating the porridge, Luo Ling helped the old man wipe his body and clean up the blood. Maybe because of the porridge, the old man's spirits were much better. At this time, the old man asked with concern: "Young man, what is your name, where are the other people in the family?"

Luo Ling: "Old man, my name is Luo Ling. I am the only one in my family. My parents were killed when they were away a few years ago."

The old man said embarrassedly: "I'm sorry to ask about your sore spot. Don't call me old man from now on. Just call me Uncle Fu."

Luo Ling continued: "Okay, I will call you Uncle Fu from now on. Uncle Fu, where are you from, how did you get here, and why are you so badly injured?"

Uncle Fu: "Alas, I don't quite remember how I got here. I feel like I have forgotten a large part of my memory. As for how I was injured, I only vaguely remember that a strong light hit me, and then I don't remember anything."

Luo Ling: "I also went over there after seeing the bright light and loud noise, and then I found you. It's strange. So Uncle Fu, you should stay here and take good care of your injuries. When you are well, you will probably remember it."

Uncle Fu nodded slightly and said, "Thank you for your help. I have some silver here, you can use it." Luo Ling didn't know what happened, but he saw a few silver coins falling out of Uncle Fu's pocket. He counted them and it seemed like there were dozens of silver coins. He remembered that he didn't find any when he wiped Uncle Fu's body before.

Luo Ling said embarrassedly, "Uncle Fu, how can I have the nerve to use your money?" and then quickly retreated.

Uncle Fu said with an unhappy look on his face: "Why, you call me uncle, but I can't give you some money, and you saved me, what's this?"
