The Domineering General and His Post-it Lady

Chapter 108: Master Chen searches for rare treasures for Hu Lijing

Ever since Master Chen learned that Hu Lijing was invited into the Fan Mansion by Old Madam Fan, he has been depressed. He thought that Hu Lijing's father had broken his promise and sent Hu Lijing to the Fan Mansion with the purpose of letting Hu Lijing marry General Fan Ziren. Mr. Chen asked him to consider other girls and that Hu Lijing would not come back.

But Mr. Chen still believed that Hu Lijing truly loved him and was waiting for Hu Lijing to come back.

Although Master Chen believed in Hu Lijing, he was also particularly afraid of receiving a wedding invitation from Hu Lijing. Every time someone came to the mansion to deliver an invitation, he would be nervous, and would be relieved when he saw that it was not Hu Lijing's wedding invitation.

On this day, the servant brought a letter sent by Hu Lijing to Master Chen. Master Chen saw that it was a letter from Hu Lijing. He wondered why she suddenly sent him a letter since Hu Lijing went to Fan's house. Was she telling him that she was going to marry General Fan Ziren?

Master Chen was thinking while holding the letter, when he suddenly dropped it on the ground. The servant next to him saw it and prepared to pick it up for Master Chen. Master Chen saw the servant reaching out and thought he was going to throw it away, so he quickly picked it up and shouted, "Why did you take my letter?"

The servant said in panic, "Sir, I just want to help you pick it up."

The servant saw how nervous Master Chen looked and knew that the letter was very important, but he wondered why he threw it on the ground, then picked it up again but didn't open it.

The servant asked curiously, "Sir, this letter is very important, right? You seem to want to open it but don't want to open it at the same time. Are you trying to prevent a scam?"

Mr. Chen said, "No, I'm just worried that Miss Hu said in the letter that she is about to marry General Fan Ziren. What should I do then?"

The servant said, "Sir, you worry too much. Maybe Miss Hu is telling you that she misses you."

Mr. Chen suddenly became nervous and thought: Yes, maybe she missed me too much at the Fan Mansion, so she wrote to me to tell me how much she missed me.

So, Master Chen decided to open the letter. The letter mentioned that since Hu Lijing went to the Fan Mansion, she often thought of the days she spent with Master Chen in the past, and that it was a wonderful time with Master Chen. She felt uncomfortable without Master Chen around.

In the letter, Hu Lijing also told Master Chen that Madam Fan treated her like her daughter and she treated the old lady like her own mother. Master Chen was very happy to see this, because it turned out that Hu Lijing had not forgotten him and only regarded Madam Fan as her mother and General Fan Ziren as her brother.

Master Chen saw hope again. Hu Lijing mentioned in the letter that Mrs. Fan's birthday was approaching, and she wanted to find a rare treasure for her and wanted Master Chen's help. Master Chen felt that his chance to show his ability had come, and prepared to find her a rare treasure in the world.

Master Chen called out a few of his good friends and asked them if they had any rare treasures that could be given to a person of a higher generation.

One of the young masters said, "Mr. Chen, stop joking. Your father is a very wealthy man in our area. Don't you have many rare treasures in your family? All we know are in your house."

The others also nodded. Master Chen remembered that there was indeed a treasure house at home. His father had taken him there before. There were gold, silver, jewelry, and some precious calligraphy and paintings and other treasures collected by his father.

Young Master Chen decided to go back and take a look at the treasure house at home. If he wanted to open the treasure house, he had to ask Mr. Chen for the key. Mr. Chen heard that it was Hu Lijing who asked Young Master Chen to help collect rare treasures. He felt something was wrong and refused to give Young Master Chen the key. He also persuaded Young Master Chen not to think only about Hu Lijing. Hu Lijing asked him to do this just to please Old Madam Fan.

If Mrs. Fan was happy, she would agree to let Hu Lijing marry into the family, and then Hu Lijing would be the general's wife. However, Mr. Chen refused to believe it and took a tough attitude. He even said that if Mr. Chen did not give him the key, he would move out and go find Hu Lijing.

Although Mr. Chen was very rich, he only had one son. If his son died, who would inherit the family business when he got old? Seeing his son's determination, Mr. Chen had no choice but to take out the key.

After getting the key, Master Chen hurried to the treasure house at home, opened the door and saw if there were any rare treasures he could give to Hu Lijing.

As soon as the treasury was opened, what came into view were many large boxes. When they were opened, they were all filled with gold, silver and jewelry. It was a dazzling array and it was simply spectacular. There were more gold, silver and jewelry than the last time he came in.

Although Master Chen knew that his family was wealthy, he did not expect them to be so wealthy. He began to search through the treasury, and remembered that Hu Lijing had mentioned in the letter that the rare treasures she was looking for must be extremely rare.

Young Master Chen suddenly found a pair of jade bracelets in a brocade box on a shelf. The color was bright and translucent, and different from the bracelets he had seen before. This pair of bracelets was unique.

Young Master Chen took the bracelet to Mr. Chen. Mr. Chen took one look and said, "Son, you are really good at finding things. This bracelet was left by your mother. When your mother was still alive, she bought it from a merchant in the Northern Territory. It is very valuable. You have a sharp eye and you found it."

Young Master Chen decided to take the pair of jade bracelets, but Mr. Chen tried to stop him, saying, "Son, those are things your mother left behind. If you give them to someone else so casually, your mother will be sad if she knows."

Young Master Chen comforted him, "Dad, Mom left behind a lot of things. This isn't a family treasure. If it was, I wouldn't dare take it. This is for my beloved. Maybe if I helped her this time, she will remember me for the rest of her life. When she comes back from the Fan Mansion, we'll get married. Then she'll be my wife. If my mom knew about this, she'd be so happy."

Seeing that he couldn't stop Master Chen, Mr. Chen felt that what he said made some sense. Mr. Chen just hoped that Hu Lijing would not let his son down.

Master Chen immediately went back to his room and wrote a letter to Hu Lijing, saying that he had found her and that he would escort her there personally. Master Chen thought that this was the best opportunity to visit Hu Lijing. After all, the Fan Mansion was not open to anyone and only invited people could enter. Given the relationship between Hu Lijing and Old Madam Fan, he should be able to enter.

He was already satisfied that he could meet Hu Lijing by taking the opportunity to send the treasures.

After Hu Lijing received the letter, she saw that Mr. Chen said that he had found the rare treasures, but wanted to deliver them personally because they were too valuable to be given to anyone else.

Regarding this request, Hu Lijing was thinking about how to get Mr. Chen in. It was not a wise choice to meet Mr. Chen at this time. If someone saw her and caused a quarrel, she would have no way to defend herself.

Hu Lijing knew very well that if she didn't ask Mr. Chen to come, he might not give her the gift. In the end, Hu Lijing made an appointment with Mr. Chen and met at the back door at noon when everyone was having lunch.

After receiving the letter, Mr. Chen saw that Hu Lijing agreed to his request, but because she was afraid of gossip in the Fan family, she could not invite him in for the time being, and they could only meet at the back door.

Young Master Chen thought that they were very happy to meet each other, and it didn't matter where they were. Thinking that the day for them to meet was approaching, Young Master Chen couldn't hide his excitement, thinking about the scenes of them meeting again countless times.
