Refuse to trample on the pride of heaven
Chapter 107: The grace of a meal, living as death, death as grass
"You little brats! How many times has this happened?! Don't mess with the nobles here!"
The man was forgiven and did not leave diligently. When he saw the children, he came over angrily and pretended to drive them away, but the children refused to leave after they dispersed.
"No need to rush." Liu Jiqian spoke out to stop them.
The man said yes awkwardly, carefully looked at the expressions of several people, and sorted out his words.
"These kids are just playful and have no sense of propriety. They accidentally bumped into a noble man. I apologize for them."
Yan Qingshu: "Is this your child?"
The man was stunned: "No, I haven't married yet."
Meng Chuanbai looked at the man with some surprise. He didn't expect that the other party would be so kind and speak for the children. He snorted.
The man thought that he was not a good person. Qi Zhaoshu had also indulged in sexual fantasies like other people, but he could not bear to see these kids die - if these kids failed once, they would be doomed to face these dignitaries.
Perhaps it was because he thought of his brother who starved to death, who was about the same age as them, or perhaps it was the love that an adult has for children, that the man felt compassion - every time he led the way, and saw the noble being offended by them, he would pretend to be angry and scold them, taking the opportunity to tell them to run away, and then say something to amuse the noble so as to prevent them from being retaliated against... This was one of the few things he could do.
Now it seems that they have failed this time. The man looked at the girl who was still caught by Wei Xun and the boys who refused to run away, sighed, and said no more.
Lu Wensheng looked at these children. Based on what the man blurted out, this was definitely not the first time these children had done something similar. It felt like they were doing this for some purpose - was it for Qi Zhaoshu?
"Noble man!"
Several teenagers looked at the little girl in Wei Xun's arms with uneasiness and called out to her hurriedly, their eyes full of anxiety.
In the past, they were able to basically escape if they did this. Even if they were caught, the nobles would not bother with them because they were young and proud of their status. Or they would be afraid that their presence in this place would be known, so they would not beat them to death. They would just curse them a few words, and they would kowtow a few times and leave. But they didn't expect that they would fall into trouble this time.
"Tell me the truth, what do they usually do?" Liu Jiqian looked at the man.
"They are habitual offenders. Every time a noble person wants to enter the house, these little brats either ambush and splash water on them in the blind spot, or deliberately bump into them and steal their money bags. This often causes many noble people to go back because they think it's unlucky..."
The man didn't dare to hide anything and told everything he knew - Liu Jiqian's indifferent look made him dare not play any ulterior motives.
The children's eyes were filled with fear, but there was no other expression. They waited silently for the result of their trial.
Lu Wensheng: "...Wenye, let her go."
Wei Xun let go of the little girl: This child is so skinny and scary, he is really afraid that she might accidentally crush her to death.
"Can you tell me, big brother, why are you doing this?" Lu Wensheng squatted down and looked at the little girl in a gentle tone.
The little girl looked like the youngest among the children. She felt that Lu Wensheng was different from those noble masters who were arrogant and looked at them with disgust in the past, so she hesitated for a moment.
"Let Master Qi vent his anger! And we can also drive away these bad guys!"
Her voice was clear and childish, but her tone contained a kind of anger that shared a common hatred for the enemy, causing the other children to chatter and shout along.
"My mother said that Master Qi is a true gentleman! Although I don't know what a gentleman is, Master Qi is a good man, so a gentleman must be good... We must protect him!"
"Yes! Those who bully Master Qi are all villains! My father said that only villains cannot stand seeing others doing well!"
The children were obviously very hostile towards those "noble people" and felt indignant for Qi Zhaoshu.
"Protect him?"
"Master Qi and the Qi family have done us a favor!"
The children talked at once.
"Our family survived because of Master Qi's free porridge!"
"My family too!"
"My parents said that even if Master Qi doesn't need it, we should find a way to repay him!"
"He needs us now!"
"Yes! I heard it while leaning against the window of the school. To repay a favor, one must die with one's head while alive, or with a blade of grass after death!"
They were the children of those refugees who stayed in the capital. They had received kindness from the Qi family. Qi Zhaoshu had even sent them clothes so that they would not freeze to death. They didn't know anything else, but they just wanted to do something for Qi Zhaoshu.
Meng Chuanbai was somewhat touched and somewhat amused: "Do you know what it means to die with one's head when alive and to be buried with grass when dead?"
The children shook their heads: "We don't know, but we are willing to do anything for Master Qi!"
"If you are alive, you must sacrifice your life. If you die, you must also tie a grass ring and hold a ring - this is a heavy oath."
The children looked at each other, thought for a while, understood, and their eyes were full of seriousness.
Their voices became more certain, and they shouted in unison: "For a meal, I will give you my life and my life as a gift!"
This is the "stubbornness" unique to the simple people - the oath of life and death has never been the exclusive romance of scholars and gentlemen, peddlers and hawkers also have their own determination.
These kids always talk about what my mom and dad said, but what they did was reckless and dangerous. The fact that they have managed to survive until now can only be attributed to God's blessing.
They are repeat offenders, but there is no sign of any adult at home. You have to know that offending an important person is not just a matter of one person - it can only mean that these children have no adults at home.
The lives of the lower classes are always tough yet fragile, and this is not a contradiction.
But despite this, they are willing to give everything to repay the favor, and their sincerity is no less shallow than the friendship of gentlemen who entrust their lives to each other.
"Sir, you are here to help Master Qi, right?" The little girl's eyes were filled with anticipation. The other children also quieted down and looked at Lu Wensheng eagerly.
Lu Wensheng nodded, and didn't mind the little girl's messy hair, and patted her head.
"Great!" The children cheered and were about to kneel down and kowtow, but were stopped by several people.
The children were very grateful and expressed their willingness to work like slaves for them.
Yan Qingshu: "It's enough for you to grow up well. You can't act like cattle or horses." I am crying after saying so much.
Ignoring Yan Qingshu's social animal remarks, Lu Wensheng looked at the man.
"You watch over them, we'll be back soon."
Meng Chuanbai: "If anything happens to these kids, you will be held responsible!"
The man quickly said yes - it seemed that these nobles were of great importance and were actually planning to take Master Qi away, but he felt it was a little risky.
There were servants guarding the house. When they saw them come in, they immediately came to greet them. Noticing that they were strangers, they asked their names respectfully.
The Meng family is a noble family after all, so as long as Meng Chuanbai reported his name, the servants let him pass and even led the way for him.
------------
The following does not take up any word count.
(Some people think that Qi Zhaoshu is too miserable, and even think that he doesn’t need to suffer all these before rising again. Let me explain the origin of Qi Zhaoshu’s character and my own meaning here.
I originally wanted to write about people with strong spiritual cores in a chaotic background. This character came from a video I casually watched - the character in the video was also a noble man who had fallen into poverty and was bullied by others, but the video was filled with despair, and the text also implied that this character was completely swallowed up by the darkness. No one saved him, and he could not escape. The moon high above never rose again.
I felt distressed when reading this, so I made some changes based on respecting the original work, and thus the humble gentleman Qi Zhaoshu was born.
(Isn’t this a reflection of Liu Jiqian’s fate?)
If no one is jealous of him or frames him, he doesn't need anyone else to rely on and he would be a very outstanding person.
Zhaoshu implies good talent, influence, and perseverance. It also means being meticulous, quick-thinking, and capable, and being able to achieve great things in one's career.
He is also a child created by my writing. I put a lot of thought into his name. I love him, so I let him break through the ending of "fate".
He is a fleeting cloud. Those who want to trap him cannot grasp the throbbing of his soul. The physical torture may be tormenting, but it cannot kill the light of his spirit.
"A gentleman who dies for his loyalty will forge a sword and kneel before the world to kill him.")
