Unknown Knight

Chapter 431: Fleeing Separately

Although the city of Dukuba was easy to capture, the third prince Azzam and the fifth prince Sharif were unwilling to accept defeat. They chose to rush out of the city with more than 300 of the most elite Mamluks.

As for the eldest prince Nubia, whose territory was originally in Dukuba City, he thought that he had lost his foundation and had no hope of recovery, so he prepared a cup of poisoned wine for himself and chose to end it all.

There are three gates in Dukuba City. Except for the main attack gate, Aix sent 300 cavalry and 500 infantry to defend the other two gates respectively, in order to eradicate all evil and eliminate all the rebel forces in the city that refused to surrender.

Although these troops are not enough to eliminate the enemy who broke through, they can still hold the enemy back for a while. As long as these defensive troops can hold the enemy back for this period of time, it will be enough for Aix's reinforcements to rush over from the camp.

It’s just that ideals are full of hope, but reality is often very skinny, and the two princes were obviously not given for nothing.

They first used several hundred ordinary cavalry and infantry as the vanguard to attack the defending army of Aix.

As the saying goes, one man fighting desperately is enough to defeat ten thousand, and a hundred men fighting desperately are unstoppable. These vanguard soldiers were already a powerful army. In order to survive, they risked their lives and rushed towards the defensive army arranged by Aix without caring about casualties. They actually broke through the tightly defended formation, and the two sides immediately fell into a melee.

While the two sides were fighting fiercely, more than 300 of the most elite Mamluks took the opportunity to rush out of the city gate.

These Mamluk heavy cavalry are indeed the elite among the elite. They skillfully form a spearhead formation and rush towards the chaotic battlefield regardless of friend or foe. They cut through the formation as easily as a knife cutting through butter, leaving only broken corpses and body parts on the ground.

When Aix arrived with his troops, the Mamluks had already fled far away with the two princes. Only the defending infantry and more than a hundred Sarand prisoners were left near the city gate.

These captives were die-hards loyal to the two princes. The two princes had previously promised to take them with them when escaping, but they did not expect that they would be treated like disposable toilet paper and were ruthlessly discarded by the two princes after being used.

After the Mamluk cavalry, who could not distinguish between friend and foe, broke through the formation, they did not choose to return to rescue them, but instead marched away without stopping at all.

These loyal Sarande soldiers finally reacted and felt as if the sky had fallen. They were so disheartened that they immediately lost all their fighting spirit and laid down their weapons in surrender.

When Aix arrived with his troops, the Mamluk cavalry had already escorted the two princes away. There were more than 300 cavalry defending here, but most of them were light cavalry. They were now following and chasing the two princes.

Worried that the pursuing cavalry would suffer losses, Aix did not stay for long and led more than 500 cavalrymen to chase in the direction of the enemy's escape.

After chasing for half a day under the scorching sun, they ran into their own defeated soldiers head-on.

Upon asking, we learned that these fleeing Mamluk cavalrymen had actually turned around and dealt a severe blow to the pursuers, severely defeating them. Nearly half of the more than 300 cavalrymen were killed by them, leaving only more than 100 cavalrymen, most of whom were light cavalrymen, and many of them were injured.

Without time to feel sorry for the loss of cavalry, Aix knew that he had to eradicate the evil and was about to lead his troops to continue the pursuit, but this idea was dispelled by a situation reported by the defeated soldiers.

It turned out that although the two princes defeated the pursuers, they also knew that Niza's army would not let them go so easily. There must be more pursuers behind them, so the two of them decided to escape separately.

So the two princes each took their Mamluks and divided into more than a dozen cavalry teams of different sizes, with each team having only a dozen or twenty riders, and they fled in all directions.

The remaining pursuers on Aix's side had originally wanted to follow the enemy from a distance to provide guidance for the subsequent cavalry support, but the enemy's actions left them completely helpless. After all, this area was the enemy's territory. If they were not careful, they might run into the enemy's encirclement and die without knowing how. They had no choice but to return in disgrace to report.

After listening to the report from the cavalry captain, although Aix felt sad about the loss of more than one hundred light and heavy cavalry, he did not want to blame him too much. After all, the enemy was elite Mamluk cavalry. As long as they were commanded properly, it was possible to wipe out their entire army.

Especially the fifth prince Sharif, Aix had seen how powerful he was. Now that the enemy had escaped without a trace, Aix had no choice but to order his troops to withdraw.

After this battle, Aix helped Niza basically eliminate the main hostile forces in Sarande.

Although the two princes and some Mamluk cavalry escaped, they had lost their base and became wandering monsters. They would not pose much threat in the short term.

Now the biggest enemy facing the Sarand Emirate is the Kugit people entrenched near the Four Realms Forest. Since retaking Uruzdak Castle, Saiga Khan has also tried to attack Weiyeha Castle on the border between the two countries, but when the vanguard troops arrived near Weiyeha Castle, they found that there was no available water source near the castle.

There was no other way, so this vanguard had to fetch water from the Sijie Forest, dozens of kilometers away.

However, the water supply here is too little. It cannot even guarantee drinking water for the vanguard of only 200 cavalrymen, let alone the large force of several thousand cavalrymen that will follow.

After holding out for five or six days, Saiga Khan had no choice but to order the withdrawal of the vanguard. The entire army first camped in the Four Realms Forest where there was a water source, and sent several small groups of scouts deep into the territory of Sarand to see if there was any opportunity to take advantage of.

However, before he could find any opportunity, he received news that the coalition forces of the three princes had been defeated in Fort Kafra.

Not long after, news came that the third prince's city of Amrad and the fifth prince's city of Barie were captured by unknown armies, and soon after that, news came that Dukuba City was also captured.

This series of bad news made Saiga Khan of the Four Realms Forest directly EMO.

Now he was in a dilemma. If he continued to attack, the outcome would be unpredictable due to the water problem. If he simply chose to retreat, he had mobilized a large army with such great fanfare, but only recaptured Uruzdak Castle, achieving such a pitiful result. This really made him and a group of Nayans who were like habitual robbers feel dissatisfied.

Until he received intelligence that Sultan Niza, who had basically wiped out the domestic opposition forces, was gathering a large army to assemble near the Jamiyad Fort on the border between the two countries.

Suddenly, there was chaos in the royal tent of Saiga Khan, and people were talking about all kinds of things. Just as the king and his ministers of the Khergit Khanate were arguing about their own opinions, the envoy of the Sarand Emirate also arrived, bringing the news that Niza Sultan requested reconciliation between the two countries.
