Operation Red Book
Chapter 9 Welcome to the Victorian Era 1
"My sister and I came to London from Manchester... I was 19 and she was 18... We were a blended family... Ugh!"
"Take him over there and let him vomit. There's no useful information at all."
Holmes threw Joshua into the arms of a police officer.
"Has the girl finished vomiting? Bring her over here again."
The sheriff next to Holmes glanced at him helplessly, sighed as he looked at the oriental girl who was driven over, and began to write down the information in the booklet in his hand.
"Go on, what are you doing in London and why are you suddenly at the murder scene?"
Holmes stood with his hands behind his back with great interest, and without waiting for the sheriff to speak, he fired off a series of questions.
"Holmes, let the girl breathe. She must be terrified."
Looking at Ivy's pale face and trembling lips, the sheriff frowned and reminded Holmes.
"Lestrade, what can you ask with your efficiency? The Queen doesn't pay you to eat cheese."
"Holmes! Be careful or I'll torture you!
Besides, the murderer has been caught, and you have described the case process. I also endured for half an hour listening to you talk about those weird nonsense about a person falling from my head.
Now we just need to take a routine note, why are you still fussing over this!"
Lestrade's moustache quivered with rage.
"You don't believe me? Good, good, you are indeed a top fool."
Holmes responded in kind, and the two men turned their backs on each other.
"Nick, give these two children another cup of hot tea...Okay, kids, take your time. We will protect you. You just need to answer me."
Lestrade squatted down deliberately, held Ivy's cold hands, and patiently guided her.
With the protection of the large, warm hands, Ivy's anxious heart gradually calmed down.
She looked at Lestrade with tears in her eyes and lied fluently:
“My name is Ivy Lee, he is Joshua Williams, we are brother and sister in a blended family.
Two years ago, our parents went to Florida, USA for business. A month ago, they suddenly lost contact. Our grandmother, who was taking care of us, also died of a heart attack after hearing the bad news.
We came to London to find my aunt and ask her for help, so we took the train to London."
While Ivy was lying, she tried hard to look pitiful, shedding a few tears and choking from time to time.
"It was our first time taking a train. I was in a panic and couldn't find a seat, so I accidentally entered the crime scene. Mr. Sheriff, I was almost bitten. I was so scared, oooo——"
Ivy pointed out the scratches on her neck to Lestrade, which made him feel even more sympathetic.
Ivy glanced at Holmes secretly. He still had an arrogant look on his face and was watching coldly.
When he saw the scratches on Ivy's neck, he immediately looked away, put his hands on his chest awkwardly, wiped his nose, and coughed twice unnaturally.
"Then where are your relatives? Do you have a detailed address? We have to send you to your guardians."
Lestrade asked, taking the hot tea brought by Nick and handing it to Ivy and Joshua who staggered over.
Ivy took a sip of hot tea, glanced at Holmes again, and said quickly, "211B Baker Street, London."
The originally noisy train station suddenly became quiet, which sounded like this to Holmes and Joshua.
"Oh! Isn't that your place, Holmes?"
Lestrade looked excitedly at the man with his brows twisted into knots.
"Yes, really?"
Joshua looked at Ivy in amazement, then looked at his idol in amazement.
"211b Baker Street?"
"Shut up, settle down first, and fool them first."
Ivy lowered her voice and whispered in Joshua's ear.
"Impossible! Impossible! Mrs. Hudson has no living relatives."
Holmes said this through gritted teeth.
"You little brat, you lie without thinking. Who told you my address? James, did you tell them?"
Moriarty had just finished taking the statement and was walking towards them with a red-covered book in his hand.
"I haven't disclosed it."
Moriarty simply replied and then handed the red book to Ivy.
"Miss, you forgot your diary. Sorry, I accidentally glanced at the contents when I found it."
Ivy hesitantly took the red book that she had long forgotten. This book was the "culprit" that made her inexplicably enter this world, and it was a hot potato for her.
However, when she flipped through the pages in the classroom, it was clearly blank. How could there be the "content" that Moriarty mentioned?
She really didn't have the courage to look through it again, so she asked Moriarty: "Is there anything inside? What is written in it?"
"It's very interesting. I can't describe it here. I can only say... it's very interesting."
Moriarty talked in a mysterious way for a while but never got to the point. This only made Ivy itchy and she wanted to open the red book to see what was written in it.
Joshua was also itching to read the book. He whispered to Ivy, "Why don't you open it and take a look?"
"It's because we opened this thing that we came here, and I don't dare to open it."
Ivy also responded quietly.
"Mr. Lestrade, the place they are looking for is indeed 221-B Baker Street. This is the note that was tucked into their luggage."
As Moriarty spoke, he handed Lestrade a note that was obviously torn from an old piece of paper. Although the handwriting on it looked very old, it was still clearly legible.
"Maybe she really is a relative of your landlord's. You've only been living here for less than three months. How do you know if all her relatives are dead?
You are suspicious of them, so I'll leave it to you! By the way, if you don't get them there safely, I'll revoke your privileges at Scotland Yard."
Lestrade was overjoyed. After giving Holmes his instructions, he put away his booklet and left.
"Oh, James, why? She's obviously lying. I dare say they don't know each other at all."
Holmes grumbled to Moriarty in dissatisfaction.
"They will completely disrupt my life. I can't take care of these two little brats."
Moriarty just smiled, looked up at Holmes and said, "They will help you very well if they stay, Mr. Holmes. After all, they are time travelers from the 21st century."
